I just get the feeling that someone is lurking in the background to gazzump United at the eleventh hour. Ed Woodward will try to get him on the cheap, Newcastle will be bought by the Saudis who will dangle a huge cheque under Dortmund’s noses (and Sancho’s) and he’ll be off to the Toon.
Someone's been hurt from previous sagas.

Fear not my friend, he is ours.

If reports are correct he does have a €60m release clause, which will be 2-3x of what they paid for him. But that kicks in summer 2022 I believe.
They could potentially sell him for a lot more next summer.
From what I'm hearing, I think they want their money asap. Seeing a Utd are the only ones to register interest

If we sign him, we'll have the most expensive defender in the league, the most expensive midfielder in the league and the most expensive forward in the league.

Yet we still won't be expected to challenge and our fans will still complain about us not spending money. Mental.

Is it just me or does he look a lot more effective on the left? Don't watch Dortmund and BuLi much but most of the clips I've watched of him, his best moments appears to be when cutting in on his right foot from the left to create a chance or shoot. Maybe this has been discussed already but do United fans feel this will be a problem as surely you'd want to play your best players in positions that maximizes their abilities.

Feel like it will be a little like the Mata transfer. When negotiations are done, the bid will go in. Fits with Harris' comments as well.

he mostly played on the right at Dortmund. But that's the beauty of it, he can play on both flanks and even through the middle. Gives us tons of options and movement, so no, I don't see it as a problem at all.

I'm fairly sure this is how all big transfers go now

I really dislike this guy

He contradicts himself so much.

United won't bid until they know it'll be accepted, so how the F are they going to know it's accepted if they won't bid?

It's clear we are negotiating before an "official" bid is placed.

yeah they'll only make a bid when negotiations are over and they know it'll be accepted. Standard procedure these days.

But reading Fjortofts "time to go all in", it fits with the MEN article saying that Dortmund want to pressure us into bidding early. I get it, too ... let's not forget that players (Dembele, Aubameyang) have caused a fuss and went on strike before.

Read an article in the Athletic some months back. A lot of these big deals are negotiated through third parties. The clubs themselves only communicate directly in the very late stages of the deal. If you accept this case is similar, when the club has an idea of a structure, the bid will go in.
I also think its what happened with Pogba. There were no reports of bids etc

Yeah i'd imagine there's a lot about transfers we don't know.

It just makes me laugh he straight away jumps to "United need to give them what they want". He's desperate for Dortmund to get one over us.

Miguel Delaney, The Independent, also says a deal has been agreed in principle, with £60m paid upfront and it could possibly rise to over £100m with clauses.

My only concern with this currently is that its starting to feel like its going to be another all-summer-long transfer saga that gets drawn out and protracted, whilst other clubs (Chelsea, City) appear to be getting their business done early and with little fuss.

I just don't get that vibe at all? How are people reading it like this? It's all positive, all going our way and simply just a matter of time. There's no saga here.

nah. Chelsea faces the same battle for Havertz, and it's simply easier to sign a player like Ake ... especially when money is no issue at all.

Our season ended 4 days ago. People need a bit of patience.

Ornstein said they’ve been after Ake for ages, even that wasn’t as quick as it seemed.

I think Delaney is the worst out there for transfer news, bar the obvious fake accounts.

If a fee really has been agreed, surely it’ll start spreading like wildfire in the next couple of hours? Di Marzio, Romano, Sky and all the others normally are briefed and drop the info once a few has been agreed.

Yeh if it doesn’t gain traction in the next couple of hours then it’s probably not accurate. Hopefully we see loads of other journalists/outlets confirm the same news with their sources but I think we’re still a little while off that stage yet.
