Wont forget watching this in a 'chelsea' pub with my brother, and about 4 other united fans. But quite a few neutrals too.

How we went in at 1-1 is still a mystery.
Anderson and Nani had balls to take penalties btw. In fact from our first six, four of them were taken by our new signings right?

I have no idea why, even now, but as soon as the ball hit the net I was convinced the ref was going to disallow it. No idea, but I was sure it wasn't a goal!
It felt like slow motion. It was the standard John O'Shea brother (Rick) helping Lampard as usual.
Second half we werent good at all. I remember thinking Rio must have given a penalty away for a high kick? or foul? on Joe Cole(?) with the linesman flagging, and then putting it down. Unless im not remember it correctly?

I've just put it on, cheers for bumping the thread @Solius

My memories of it are us being the better team in the first half, them growing into it in the second and a draw in normal time being about right. Then the devastation of Ronaldo missing a penalty, being surprised both Nani and Anderson firstly stepped up then put the ball away, thinking Ashley Cole had missed for a couple of seconds, dreading Terry being the man to win it for them, the joy and relief when he took a seat, then finally he joy when Anelka missed his.

Let's what it's like 12 years later.

No probs. Yeah I remember we should’ve been 3 up by half time. Missed some big chances and they grew back into it.

I believe it was Tevez urging us to box them in for a throw in that they had because we kicked it out of touch instead of passing it back to them after an injury and that made Drogba a bit wild and he obviously ended up headbutting Vidic and got sent off

Oh and Scholes breaks his nose at one point  Challenging for a ball with Essien or Makelele I think.

Also that move where Rooney plays a ball out to the left from our own half and Ronaldo I think plays the ball across that Tevez nearly scores and then it comes out to Carrick. Such good play.

Makelele, jumps in to stop a counter and breaks his beak. Chelsea players gutted that both were booked and they had a point to be fair.

We've just gone a goal up. What a header, but also great work preceding it by Brown and Scholes from a throw, then a great ball into the box by the former.

I always feel a bit guilty for saying this because he's a legend but I really thought VDS should have saved at least 2 or 3 of those Chelsea penos. Got it right in the end though :D The Lampard and Ashely Cole penalties were quite close to him and he got a hand to each of them (I think) but couldn't keep them out.

I also don't think Chelsea deserved it as some of their fans claim. We bossed the first half and should have been 3 up. They dominated the second half, hit the woodwork twice. In extra time it was even and we had a Giggs chance that was cleared virtually off the line by Terry. Pretty much an even game overall I thought with neither side dominating the whole of the match. At least that's how i remember it.

The Terry/Tevez incident was ridiculous too; they didn't give us the ball back at one point earlier in the match and yet expected us to give it back to them at a restart :houllier:

He still scored the winner technically but it was probably worth missing the chance so Terry could slip
I was talking about...

Was a seriously good game, and Chelsea were unlucky. Drogba was stupid, Terry's slip is still as hilarious as ever.

But how come I still get nervous watching that penalty shoot-out? Epic, and we're in for another epic night on Saturday.

Believe people, a little over 48 hours to go!!
everytime I watch it I feel we should have buried it in the first half.

I haven't watched the game in a while but from what I remember we had the better first half, Chelsea had the better second and I think they probably just edged extra time. Seems such a long time ago now, I long for those big CL nights again.

Does anyone have the 2008 CL Champions ITV Montage with Regina Spektor's Us as the soundtrack? Can't find it anywhere but was brilliant.

I idolized Paul Scholes growing up so for him to get his chance in the Champions League final was amazing.

I couldn't believe it when Ronaldo missed his penalty. When Anelka was walking up to take his penalty I had a feeling he wouldn't score. We all know what happened next.

I only wished I appreciated that Man United team more. I was only 14 at the time though so I couldn't appreciate it as much as I would now.

Watching it again we could have had another two in the first half with Tevez/Carrick then Tevez again, and there could have been no complaints about us deserving it. They had the Ballack chance after Rio tried to shepherd it to VdS, a Ballack freekick then just before half time Lampard profited from a couple of deflections (good work to burst into the box to be fair but still, whoda thought it?!) and we go into the dressing room seething we aren't just winning but firmly in control, and being our own worst enemy in every chance Chelsea had.

They no doubt have it better after the break but you can't ignore the fact 1-1 at the break flattered Chelsea (plus feck 'em).

Despite being totally trashed and hardly watching it since, that bit still stands out for me. The diagonal pass from Rooney was incredible. Had Tevez had scored it would've been one of the best goals in any Champions League final.

What a night still feels like a game a million years from the future playing Chelsea in such a foreign setting.

I think giggs had such a brilliant chance and I'm bamboozled as to how he never finished. Both sides of the goal were open iirc.

Feet up at home.
I was in my favourite bar in Cyprus and was jumping up and down on a table when the final pen was done. Fell on my arse and the barstaff gave me a doctor's chair shot when I recovered.

Happy memories.

been a while since I watched it. There’s an insane Rooney crossfield ball first half...would have been 2-0 I think but didn’t score.

If I remember correctly, Chelsea were attacking even when their player went down injured, lost the ball and then expected United to kick the ball out

Chelsea were unlucky after half time but their equaliser was the luckiest goal you'll ever see in a final.

They also behaved like a bunch of whiney bitches the entire game.

We had some luck to win it. Could have gone either way though. Game that had most of what you want for the neutral apart from maybe a few more goals.
We never made it easy for us under SAF in europe. I guess it is hard to do that and go all the way.
The Roma 7-1 is probably our best night, but then Milan took us apart at home in the semifinal.

Watching this game you realise how many leaders / big names both teams had. Just some massive figures all over the pitch.

Mad all the English players on the pitch yet that was euro 2008 summer when England didn't qualify.

We could have been 3-0 at half-time - the Ronaldo goal and the two Tevez chances (one including a more difficult second chance for Carrick). After Chelsea got that lucky equaliser with rebounds and slips, I was convinced it wasn’t our night. Enter JT...

Sure we won the CL with a midfield of Carrick, Hargreaves and Scholes 2 years after all of them were ignored for England  (Hargreaves did battle his way into England's XI tbf)

10 English players in the starting line ups I believe and we couldn’t even qualify. The key moment was Gerrard’s miss in Moscow to put us 2-0 up. We then went on to somehow lose 2-1 and then still managed to screw it up despite Israel beating Russia.

Chelsea had us figured out for that penalty shootout too. They knew VDS had a tendency to dive to the shooter's natural side and told all their players to shoot to the opposite side. All their first 6 players did this and scored with the exception of Ashley Cole who being left footed chose to shoot on the side that all his teammates had scored in and barely squeezed in past VDS. They also did their homework on Ronaldo and knew he favoured shooting to his natural side when the keeper didn't move early. Everything went according to plan until the slip.

Then on penalty #7 VDS knows something is up, points towards the side that Chelsea players had all been shooting towards, creating doubt in Anelka's head. He goes against the plan, shoots towards his natural side and VDS saves.

The slip coming up.....

Was wondering if it would've been disallowed if he'd scored, double hit?

Blimey Anderson just came on to take a penalty, makes him scoring it with ease even more impressive.

Nani one was also very good considering he had to score to keep United in the competition.

One of the weirdest games for me. Was in the army at the time and got back to the tent just in time for Terrys penalty(on the radio) . So guess I have a little bit of luck.

Anderson straight down the middle, that's what I like to see.
