Yeah, I think Badiashile could be a good purchase, but not as a first choice centre back alongside Maguire in the season that begins in less than 2 months. Upamecano had a knee injury that's kept him out in two periods. I don't know too much about it, but he's clearly an outstanding prospect and physically dominating. Konate is still injured and has had a long-term injury this season, hence the few games, so someone to continue to evaluate over the next season or two.
Zidane interested in Badiashile will make things difficult, but definitely worth to try. He would be able to play way more than Bailly, Jones and Rojo anyway. Sounds really like a perfect squad player until catching some additional muscles and experience.

We tried and failed to sign both him and Upamecano when they were younger but think we bodged the deal.

We have done well snapping up youth talent the last few years. Would be good to continue that trend so we don't have to pay 100 million down the line.

I don't think any other young player is of the same level as Upamecano.
Honestly think Kabak is same level. That said, they are still so young so can never call it, but I’ve been impressed with Kabak every time I’ve watched him. More so than Upamecano.

What's the story with him - is he being linked with others beside Liverpool?

He is as highly rated as Saliba among U19 crop of French defenders.

Was briefly linked to Spurs, but most strongly Liverpool at the moment. Had a deal agreed with Bayern in the past but he turned them down and went to Schalke instead, and said at the time that he doesn’t see his long term future in Germany, and instead wants to play in England.

Quite interesting that he rejected Bayern. Would you describe him as an exceptional athlete (a la Upamecano)?

He’s not an athlete first, but he has a good frame. I‘d liken him most to Terry or Vidic, in terms of both style and personality.

That's as good an endorsement as possible. If he's of that ilk, I really hope the scouse don't get him.

I think that’s basically what someone like Rangnick or Campos would do if they came here. Keep the talent moving along nicely while hopefully not losing too much money on players who don’t fully work out. All it takes is one or two punts a season to work out even as squad players to make it a profitable approach. If you find a superstar you’ve hit the jackpot.

Chelsea did something similar with De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku, and a few others. Although it did not work out for them, they did not lose money on them. Worth the punt because if they pay off then you're all set.

Put him and Slabhead side to side and it's about as scary as you can get

Seriously given the wealth of talented CBs in France right now, there'll be something hugely wrong if a club of Man Utd's stature can't get one over the line.

He's an absolute unit. Strikers won't want to go near him.

do like the look and price of this guy. Might not start straight away but can see that he has the attributes to be a big defender in the future. Centre backs who (predominantly) stay on their feet ... yes!! Also nice to see a YT video of a defender actually defending.

I hope we get him. He has all the makings of a formidable centre back.

Would be interesting to see how people rate him in comparison to the other French CBs in and around his age group.

Like John Stones was?
John Stones was also a 'very promising' player once, but he has not improved as much as people thought he would. It just shows that all this talk of which players could improve or not is just pie in the sky as no one knows if or how a player will or will not improve from the way they play now. Not one poster would put their life savings (if they have any) on saying definitively that player X, Y or Z will become a great player in the future, unfortunately for Ole, and every other manager, they have to make decisions on these players, and some will succeed, and others fail, as was shown with SAF, he made some inspired choices, but also some poor ones, as has Guardiola. We all think we know football, but to be honest the vast majority on here know nothing compared to the guys with the big decisions to make, although I, like most on here, will still put forward names that we think will succeed at Old Trafford, and we will say, told you so, if they are signed and do well. By the way, I think that Mengi looks the real deal, and in a couple of years he could be holding down a regular place in the first team, by what do I know?

Judging by just the YouTube vids I think he looks better (or at least his style) then Gabriel. He seems better on the ball.. Never seen either of them play at all so can't really comment further.

I have seen no matches with him, only the higlights posted earlier. What struck me was he might have attributes for DM? Calm, good positioning, good reader of the game, good passing range, decent close control, etc. Maybe someone who has actually seen a full match or two can comment if this is just a shit idea or not?

This guy may be the real deal. He's tall, quick and is able to pass with accuracy when closed down. I think he looks like a better acquisition than Gabriel and Pau Torres who we've been linked to. I've always spoken of Konate, Kabak and Upamecano but I think 30m euros on this guy would be money well spent. Gabriel for me goes to ground way too easily and Pau Torres looks light weight for the PL. He could get bullied. Benoit seems like someone who could hit the ground running from day one.

We've followed him for a while I think, so would make sense we'd enquire if he's on the move. Looks like a lot of potential, looks really good on the ball for me.

Why not, and why?
With our track record recently we dont purchase younger players in Europe. Only take notice after they start having their breakout season is when we take a serious notice.

SAF would sign young and up coming players in Europe and EPL but recently its more British or EPL players.

Finally a 10min video. Based on this he has everything we need. Physical, tall, recovery pace, good aerially, composed , good on the ball, also heard his France u 19 captain Using highlights only I'd take him over Torres and Gabriel.

Have to agree, based on that video the kid ticks every box. I'm loving those long rage passes and the way he glides with the ball when he steps out of defence.

He looks an absolute unit as well.

Quick

Good passer

Ticks all the boxes for my Maguire partner. Plus if we don't get one of these young french CB's I will be p*ssed.
