The move for Sanchez, followed by wrecking Martial's soul, was really atrocious stuff by Mourinho. Sanchez had been brilliant for Arsenal for several years, but hadn't he turned to trash for quite some time before we brought him to Old Trafford?
That's the thing for me that pissed me off the most, Mourinho fecked with Martial who was in great form on the left, to put him on the right and eventually benched him.

We did not pay any transfer fee to Arsenal. It was a straight swap.
Yeah there is no transfer fee, that €35m is Mkhitaryan's value at the time. They record the transfer fee based on the lowest valuable player (Sanchez was €70m), because it's not a free transfer.

It was truly ridiculous. A lot of people including myself thought he'd be playing on the right. If we'd have known beforehand that he'd be replacing Martial then I would have been against the signing 100%.

Thank feck Mourinho isn't here any longer.

Made him miss the World Cup as well. We'd have had 2 WC winners in the squad instead of just 1.

We all love United
Why couldn’t he just played on the right? Or Jose tried fitting him there? He didn’t want to or simply prefers the left where he likes to cut in and do those pointless floating balls into the box which went to nowhere? Perhaps he could have experimented that, perhaps it may worked out. Oh well, he ain’t our problem anymore

I don't get some of the posts in this thread, don't understand the moaning about letting him go for free transfer. We owed him around 45-50 million for next seasons, we made a blunder 2 seasons ago and we got chance to correct that, we can't change the past. At least it's good that Inter signed him so that we can offload him and free up wages for new signings.

Yup. A potential Gareth Bale or Mesut Ozil situation avoided. Imagine if inter was not interested in taking him, an unhappy Sanchez sitting on the bench for 2 more season with 30m euro annual wage.

I don't think it would've mattered much which wing he was playing in, he lost that extra step and it affected his play a lot.

I could've seen him perform well in a top 2 with either Lukaku or Martial but Mourinho was never going to do that.

Exactly, to make it even worse, all our contract negotiations were tough too because of Sanchez contract. Biggest blunder in PL after replacing SAF with Moyes.

The idea of losing Sanchez as our number 7 and giving the shirt to Sancho is like a beautiful dream. As long as Sancho doesn’t mean “of Sanchez”.
Ah yes, the famous number 7, worn by luminaries such as Michael Owen, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and, now, the worst of the lot, Alexis Sanchez... I think it might be time that we ended this nonsense. Give Sancho number 11 instead.

Giving him that contract was pretty stupid, but it's not the end of the world everyone thinks it is.

A good, in contract player like that, at the time would of cost around 50m. And say he'd be on 200k a week.

So, if he was on 500k a week, then he's cost us 15.6m a year "fee" (300k*52), so over the 2 years it's around 30m (not taking in to account the -25% for not being in the CL, and the fact he was loaned out).

If he actually played well, then he pays for himself, or there is a chance we can move him on and get some kind of fee.

The issue is, he didn't play well, and had he been loaned out and also not played well and there were no takers, we'd have been in real trouble - and also what happens if he did alright and it was time to renew - it's not like we can give him LESS money.

It was a stupid not thought out decision, but luckily, in hindsight compared to a normal transfer who might have got injured or flopped - it's not really cost us more than that. But also because of the high wages, it also pumped up several other of our players wages, which is bad.

We should of instead given him a signing on bonus, and a normal wage. (But then that's of course more initial outlay)

Legend says that Brett Anderson threw a chair during a meeting with Inter board and demanded them to complete the signing of John Cena from ManRed.

This, we are also a bit lucky that Sanchez doesn't wanna do a Bale and just sit out a contract.

It did in a way, since it directly impacted Martial who was on a very good form but I see what you mean

Yeah, it's good that Sanchez pushed for transfer and came up with solution with Inter.

He didn't want. In his opening interview, he clearly mentioned he wants to play left. If Woodward did not get all giddy, when Sanchez unexpectedly became available, it could have been a planned and pros and cons discussed. Sanchez was dropped by City and we picked him up in 2 days without much thought process involved. I am not even sure if he was ever on our radar, because he was City bound for good 7-8 months in the season.

This is hindsight. He had drop of form, but it wasn't so clear that he was gone. But he was very much on the City's list till the very end. City did not think his wage demands + transfer money were acceptable and dropped him. We got him almost immediately.

So Ive read as part of the Sanchez contract termination he will get a pay off from United, that along with no transfer fee is not great.
Anyway he is off our books, so hopefully what ever pay off he received is small

In fairness Alexis is being a good sport, he could have easily stick to his guns and see his contract out. Pretty much as Bale is doing with Madrid.

Even with us letting him go for free the transfer wouldnt be possible without Alexis agreeing a substancial drop on his wages. Respect to him.

I think all parties have acted very reasonably here.

United to take it on the chin and let him go for free so Inter can pay his wages for the first year.

Clearly he wants to play football, respect all parties here.

It definitely feels that way. City couldn't close the deal (wonder why?) and Woodfeck gets all giddy by the thought of putting one past the noisy neighbors and offers him to Mourinho. Of course Jose is not going to say "I don't want the player", so voila they quickly negotiate the salary with Sanchez and the rest is history.

We’ve rid ourselves of two cancerous tumors, Mourinho and Sanchez. Job well done by management, who admittedly put us in this place to begin with, and we move onward..and by the look of things, upward.

Now the transfer has gone through it's a matter of time before he tries to blame other people for his failure at United.

All the best to him at Inter.

It never worked out for him here but it wasn’t for a lack of effort on the pitch from him.

Has anyone released more info regarding the transfer? Are we covering any part of his wages? Or is he completely off the books

Very, very, very good player.

But it didn't worked out at all in our shirt and wish him best of luck in Inter. Except if we meet them in eventual final and he is eligible to play.

Thats what Im wondering as well. From what I read we are paying off his contract and getting 0 fees. As much as I want him gone If thatS true that means we are paying 60 mill for him to play for them. Maybe we agreed to pay half so 30 mill and we are thinking thats 30 mill saved. But still we are paying 30 mill for him to play for Inter. If he does us at the Euros that will suck.

I don't understand why we would need to pay off his wages.

If we had to pay him off, surely it would be better to keep him on the bench as an option? Or even play for the reserves?

We owed him around 40-50 million in wages for next 2 seasons, he took pay cut, Inter spread his wages for 3 years and we made small payout which means we will save lot more in wages.

Keeping him on the bench would cost us too much and as we have already seen, it breaks the wage structure and created many problems for contract negotiations.

If we made a small payout that's fair enough. I was thinking we paid off the entirety of the remainder of his contract. That, to me makes no sense because in that case we may as well keep him around as a squad option.

No, that would be insane an no one will do that. As per guardian, it's a small pay out. It's probably some middle ground in bridging loss of wages for Sanchez.

Is it true that he has taken a substantial pay cut?

If so then fair play to him, a lot of people had been predicting that he would rinse us for the entire contract and refuse to leave unless we kept paying the difference. Worked hard in his time here too.

Not sure if it's substantial pay cut as he got small payout from Manutd and also assuming he will get signing on fee from Inter too.

That's the rumour but the tax regime in Italy is different so while he may have taken a hit to his gross, the net isn't all that much different, apparently.
