5 subs to be allowed next season

If we're that keen on doing 5 subs, maybe we could even organise it so that 3 subs can be made at any point in the game, but the other subs have to be made at half-time. E.g. 2 at half time and 3 in the second half.
Half time subs are already "free" in the 5 subs rules. You can make 5 subs and can do them across 3 "in-play stoppages". So you can make 2 at HT and then three individual subs in the second half if you want.

There should be a clock stop for substitutions onwards. 10 substitutions in a game can lead to 20 minutes being lost

Ah, cheers. Not sure if I knew that already or not. It's unusual how many teams often don't alter their teams at half team.

Stick to that then. Keeps the game flowing as much as possible. I do understand the criticisms about this favouring the bigger/richer clubs with their squad depth, which it absolutely does.

So now we have seen it are people still saying that the better squads won’t benefit from this?

This should be tied in to a much stricter policy around concussions as I mentioned in my recent thread on the subject.

Any player who has a head impact is removed immediately for assessment by an independent medical team and an additional sub is allowed (on top of your normal 3 stoppages), if the player is found to be medically sound the manager has the option to bring him back into the game at the next break in play.

But everyone knows what the restriction is, stupid or not. You can choose (99% of time) to never leave yourself vulnerable to it, the same as you can choose to never make your third sub in regular rules but that's not optimal and that means sometimes you'll get unlucky but it is no different than crying about being forced down to 10 men in regular 3 sub rules when a player gets injured and you've made all your subs, you can't being a player on, it's outside the rules.
Explain how I'm crying about it? I'm criticising it and calling it stupid, is that enough for me to be crying about it?

Depth will be even more important then. Wonder if that'll biggen the gap between poor and rich clubs even further.

Will this stay for good or only next season?

Will make the subs bench in fantasy league pointless.

I like the idea of three subs plus two extra for head injuries.

So more reason to get both Grealish and Sancho in next season. Imagine going 3 nil up at 60 mins and have options of Pogba, Bruno, Sancho, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood to rotate in front 4.
If we are 3-0 up at 60 mins, we can bring the kids or James/Lingard to see the game out. Don’t see why we need to bring good players on then.

If we are 2-1 down though, it makes sense to bring Grealish on.

What do we think of this: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...oes-not-benefit-the-big-clubs-and-here-is-why

According to the times, Chelsea are very keen on 5 subs next season. For Chelsea to get their wish, 70% of Premier League clubs have to agree to keep the 5 subs rule next season.
Decent theory which does makes sense.

Doesn't factor in the bigger clubs capability of vastly improving their 9 man bench whilst also offering ample game time to players. So though it may not have an immediate effect, in the long term it would significantly widen the gulf in quality.

I think it depends on the schedule. If the schedule for next season is similar to the "restart" one then it makes sense to have this 5 subs rule temporary until the schedule goes back to normal.

I disliked the idea at first, but I think in a likely condensed season so soon after the previous one, with the Euros coming right after that, it makes a lot of sense to allow it again. It will definitely aid us, as any game we are winning comfortably after 60 minutes will see changes to most of our key players.

Comparison:

20/21 Season will run 12th September 2020 to 16th May 2021.

19/20 Season should have run 16th August 2019 to 19th May 2020.

Pretty much a full month less but having to fit the same number of games and a European Championships two weeks after.

All the more reason to get better squad depth. This will probably be beneficial to CIty the most.

Smaller clubs would hate this, makes it harder to compete.
Quite happy with this at Brighton, Potter would like 11 if he could get away with it!
