Really can't see. Matic just signed a new deal and McTominay and Fred can also play there. I think we do want a CB (rather than a CDM), but again, would be pretty surprised if we do.
I agree with you that I don’t see it happening. However - if we can’t get the CB we want, I think Ndidi is the best possible screen out there for our back line, and would be a great buy. Although I think we would be priced out of a move regardless, sadly.

We should look at Ndidi instead of Gueye. Not that we're looking at Gueye either, but still... Ndidi is way younger and very underrated. Would be an excellent defensive option to allow Bruno og Pogba more freedom.
Ndidi is too expensive. Gueye is cheaper option for short term. Give Ndidi another year or two, we don't want another Morgan Schneiderlin again.

If anyone's looking for the actual full article, here it is:

40 + 1 seems pricy for a player who just got relegated, but there you go.
PL proven for many years, 25 yo, the club's best player, last season was priced 50m-60m. That's the value came from.

This actually strikes me as being true. Sir Alex always wanted defenders who could defend very effectively in one on one situations, so as not to stifle the team’s attacking intent. I can definitely see Ole taking that same approach.
Who do you think he sees as the ideal CB who fits that criteria then?

Love Ole's post match comments. This is what we do, Jose being the exception.
Hoeness and Bartomeu would have openly mentioned the player's name.

Where the grass is greener.
Arsenal still seem to have this knack of being able to do business even in their not great financial position
To be fair look who they're looking at signing, a Willian who basically just doesn't want to leave London. It shouldn't be a hard transfer to do seeing as Arsenal and Chelsea are seemingly doing plenty of business between each other these days.

They're also giving a player who is due to turn 32 in a few days a 3+1 contract when no one else will.

3+1 contract for Willian is absolutely ridiculous. It really is Kia Joorabchian FC.

Saw an interview with Ole for some podcast where he definately mentioned needing the centre backs to be able to defent 2v2, essentially defending without too much help from midfield or side backs while in transition. Think he referred to Rio/Vidic as an example.

McTominay was absolutely dreadful yesterday vs LASK, he can’t really deputise for Matic...

thats an absurdly detailed specification. Is that from a journo or been briefed from the club? Who fits that bill?
Yeah, I don't think that more than 5-6 centre-backs actually fit this profile. Someone who can handle 1v1... I mean every team wants these players. Just seems like only City were ready to pay 40M for Ake who probably shouldn't cost more than something like 25+5 or so anyway.

Kabak from what I've seen and heard of him is the best option for this type of CB, that is unless we want to splash cash on an established CB. I'd prefer Kabak to Gabriel Torres or Badiashile we've been linked with. Kabak's game looks more mature than Gabriel and Badiashile and more suited to the Pl than Torres

We were looking at him before he went to Shalke so I hope we are still doing that. Only available for 25m apparently

Watching Mengi's speed yesterday, I wondered if he could be that player.

And take your damn piano with you!

In all seriousness, good luck to him. I was delighted when we signed him and thought we’d get 3-4 years of him tearing it up for us. Hope this move proves more successful for him.

I can't believe that Willian contract. 3 years, 100k, at his age? Wow. Well done, Will. Not so well done, Arsenal.

100k for Willian isn't even that big these days. We pay Luke Shaw 180k so they have us believe and paid Ashley Young 130k and that was ages ago.

Our contracts are way out of the line with reality. Ed Woodforahead and Matt Judge couldn't negotiate their way out of a paper bag.

As a player I don't think he was the worst, though he certainly wasn't good for us. Funnily enough if he were to play in the current team I think he would do a lot better for the simple reason that our midfield is functioning much better. When he played it felt like it wasn't, and he kept trying to counter it by dropping too deep, which is not his game - his passing is not special/not up to it. But we don't need him now.

The wages were silly, but the deal didn't seem too crazy at the time at all.

So he wasn't asking for big contract + long contract to Chelsea, he was only asking for long term contract.
not sure if that's just base salary or base salary+performance bonus like how its usually reported for United players

It's not just Sanchez's lack of impact.....his wages are a huge factor which upset the dressing room and also his arrival moved Martial out the side which as we've now seen was so so stupid.
