I wonder who it was who signed Varane. Hmmmmm.....
I'm not sure if you're implying Mourinho signed him, but it was Zidane who found him and brought him up to Madrid, Mourinho approved the deal and played him. Mou loves the guy and I know he for sure tried what he could to bring him to United.

The mistake in the beginning was an absolute clusterfeck and way to kill the mood for your team who had a terrible first leg result from the start. There was no coming back after such mistake.

David Luiz-esque performance. Although, at least Luiz can pass the ball

Struggling to think of a worse performance from a CB in the CL recently.

He was a disaster all game.

He was shocking - but that snake goalkeeper (very dislikeable) was also shocking.......

that was a very poor Madrid team - can’t remember seeing them so bad for a while - big rebuild there now as well - Kroos and Modric too long in the tooth now, hazard non existent, really shows how much Ramos holds that team together.......if your telling me that Bale can’t get on for that team then there is something very dillusional with Zidane

Zizou for the sack, Sarri for the sack, Zizou takes over at Juve next season......Pochitino at RM

Single handedly handed the game to City.

But shit happens and he's still a brilliant CB.

That really was horrid tonight.

Guess his peak was 2018 world cup. Thought he lead the French defence superbly so surprised he couldn't step it up at all in Ramos absence.

I assume Real Madrid will go all in for a CB now unless they think Ramos is going to play until he's 45 or something.

Yeah.

His midfield offered little outlets for the pass at times (so good was Citeh's press).

One of the worst ever defending performances. Literally gifted two goals to City.

It really shows how important is 'the most overrated player ever' Sergio Ramos.

City was the far better team though, so deserved to win.

My player of the World cup. Best central defender at Real Madrid btw.;)

Masterclass of defensive play and so good to see a young player capable of this rather than being asked to just do defence splitting passes and leave the positioning as it's not important.

Best defensive level from a player at WC since Cannavaro in 2006? I'd say so.

He stepped up to become France's new defensive leader and also inspired Umtiti who had a dodgy start to improve and also play well in the last two rounds.
Err no. Time and time again Real's defeats show how fecking great Sergio Ramos is for that team. Leadership, skills, passing, goal-scoring, dark arts he's got the lot. Varane is like a highschool kid without Sergio.

It was clear that he hadn't kicked a ball since 17th July, gifted on a plate to City.

Varane is a strange player in that he has won a lot and obviously had a great career but when he burst on to the scene I expected him to be the level Van Dijk was last year and a generational player whereas he has never really stood out like that. He's still a fine defender but seems to coast sometimes and throws in the odd awful performance like this one.

exactly. He’s won how many CLs and a World Cup! Just an off night in a transitional real team. I wouldn’t back against him winning another CL or 2 before he finishes up. It just goes to show you’re only ever as good as your last match in football.

He's perfectly fine.

Perez, please don't respond to Ed's 100 mil offer.

This is like shitting all over Vidic because Torres tore him a new arsehole once or twice.

Varane had a nightmare game. He's still an outstanding player.

Three champions league in a row, la liga title this year and all of a sudden he is shit because he made mistakes in a single match?

Would take him in a heart beat and wouldn’t mind paying 100m either. One of the select few players in the world worth that much.
