I take it the pay rise is just that. A pay rise. They’ve done it before where the contract length actually stays the same.

My worry is that he’d be content to spend another year in Dortmund, which when all things considered, wouldn’t be the worse thing for a 20 year old footballer.

He hasn’t pushed for a move or given any indication he’s unhappy, even if he doesn’t return to England this year.

If he does stay an additional year, there will be a lot more competition for his signature next summer. I can see the dippers selling Salah next year and making a play for Sancho.

We need to get this wrapped up THIS window

There's only one United!
Still people saying they'd take Zaha :houllier: I'm at a loss for words that people aren't taking the piss. Clearly never watched Sancho properly or Zaha for that matter.
If we don't get Sancho then i wouldn't mind getting Zaha.
I watched him many a time and he was their outstanding player dragging the team behind him.

As if signing a mediocre player would solve any issues :houllier: Would rather not sign any RW than Zaha...

They are the champion of England this year, and champion of Europe last year. They are heading towards a full-decade domination both in Premier League and Champions League if Sancho joins them. That's why.
Ffs...a PL and a CL in two seasons makes some people talk about a decade of domination in those competitions. Really?

Going off the idea. There are more pressing areas to strengthen elsewhere, and this is a lot of money.
Name the last right winger the club signed?

Once you figure that one out you'll realize that right wing is THE pressing area that needs strengthened and has been for the best part of a decade now.

I think if Sancho was to sign a new contract with Dortmund it would be similar to the one Lewandowski signed at Dortmund d before he left on a free. Just can’t see him extending his contract there.
Damn I should make a Twitter account and claim to be ITK.

and who cares about the wages discussion when even the paper that broke that story calls it a "poker game" between the clubs.

BVB have not offered Sancho more wages....they told the press that. BVB haven't promised sancho anything ffs.

How is Chelsea doing with Havertz? Or, is Woodward managing them too? How did Liverpool do with Timo Werner? Woodword's avatar there too? :)

Red Card for Casemiro!

There is no area more pressing than the right wing. There is no better fit than a young, English wonderkid whose skillsets look complementary to the way we play and who has insane numbers for his age in the second biggest club in Germany. And this isn't a lot of money for a player who'd probably cost 15-20% more in a non-Covid market with more bidders. Especially from the perspective of a club whose transparent finances indicate that such sums are feasible despite Covid losses and who are at a critical juncture in terms of their ambitions.

I'd say Ed has already succeeded by making quite a few fans believe that we could walk away from this, that we have any sort of bargaining power here. The universally known but unspoken reality is that we will eventually pay what they ask because we can't afford not to buy while they can afford not to sell. The trick is in making you believe that's not the case.

Where does the pre/post tax confusion come from? Usually neither english nor german media report wages after tax.
Depends on the narrative they're trying to drive especially when it comes to footballers. Also wage packages are part of the deal and naturally footballers are interested in what goes straight to their pockets so the prestige of being the highest paid footballer in a club or league means the numbers get reported all over the show. Then we add in bonuses, image rights the whole package can be a lot more than just the wages. For instance how much were we paying Sanchez?

I don’t think people appreciate how good this kid is. 120M for him will look cheap in a year or two

There really aren’t more pressing areas to strengthen

What is the issue if multiple clubs are interested next season? How many clubs out there can match our financial offer? Also if Sancho doesn't want to come here when more clubs are interested, maybe it's for the better then. Stop being so insecure about it. Our position is extremely strong and Dortmund knows it. 12 months down the line with huge gate receipt losses, a lot of clubs will be reluctant to pay the transfer fee that they might even afford this year. If not then getting players which doesn't want to play here got us into this mess.

For all accounts right now, he wants to come. We are not asked 10-20m, 120m euros is huge amount, it's almost 1/5th of our revenue. No club which is self sufficient can take such decisions lightly. The amount of insecurity that is their in our fanbase is staggering. We are not some small club and even next year we will have good enough chance to land Sancho. Financial health of United is also important so that we don't stop just at getting Sancho.
You are right, but it is clear that we have a good momentum and for the first time since SAF left, it seems we are making some progress. Bringing up a new blood now could just speed up the process. We can surely afford him and a DM. With those two signings and the youngsters having another year to show what they can, we are on the right path. This is the moment, no more waiting

This would be the sucker punch for me. We are making very good progress and this lad could take us to that next level.

We are still riding the feel good wave of signing Bruno and how well he’s turned out, imagine adding this kid on top, our already much improved attack will be effectively the finished article.

I want teams and oppo fans to fear us and to fecking dread coming to OT. This lad will be a big step back to that, I know it. C’mon woody

I, for one, don’t think we should get bullied over the price. Even if it means not getting Sancho. Surely he can’t be the only player in the world who can do a job for us.

For us to walk out now will show that Manchester United as a club isn’t just about being the richest. We paid more than the value for Maguire and possibly AWB last season. And we have been doing that for a long while. That reputation needs to change otherwise we’ll be overpaying for just about anybody. We stuck to our guns with Bruno and got him at what can now be considered as a bargain. If needed, the player would also need to show some desire and statement that they want a move.

The muppet in me is dying now.

We need news. Fast.
In a couple of days time it will all be over, one way or the other. Either we'll have agreed a deal or Dortmund will have released a statement saying that the 10 August deadline has lapsed and Sancho is staying.

My guess is we'll try again in September/October if the latter happens, though.

Knocking me sick coming in here and seeing people post about being happy with Grealish/Zaha instead. Those 2 are average premier league players they are a million miles away from someone like Sancho. Give your heads a shake.

He's currently at 6m. I'd trust Bild more than the BBC in things concerning german clubs.
Either way, it's not going to change that his contract will still end in 2022 and the price will be reduced next year if they decide not to sell him this year.

Dortmund is playing stupid game IMO. We have a player who can take Sancho's spot ''Greenwood'' on the right side & our offer is already €120m. So they're only going to double his wages while his contract still remain until 2022 means the price will go down next year and they have no choice but to sell him much cheaper than 120m. Take it now or risk to lose him cheap next year, it's their choice.

Its not a case of just finances Sancho won`t look at money but which club also has the best project. We may not be in the same position of strength in a year where we`ll be attractive enough to him. We had the best defensive record ITL in 2018 and Jose wanted a CB the board didn`t get him one we went on to have the worst defensive record in our history.Ole wanted a creative midfielder last year and when he didn`t get him and Pogba got injured we got seriously fecked until we got Bruno who bailed us out. What`s not to say not getting Sancho this summer won`t set us back to the extent we fail to get top 4 again? Will Sancho or any top player for that matter even want to join us even if we are "Man United"?? This procrastination attitude is what will always has us going one step forward ten steps backwards especially when the likes of Chelsea/City are spending and teams like Arsenal/Spurs likely to improve we have to get the player now not next year

Didn’t they give Lewandowski a pay rise in his final year with no extension before he left for Bayern? I seem to remember they did something like that.
They did and I’m convinced they already did this for Sancho last summer.

why are people getting upset did I miss something? We are having Negotiations, Dortmund are going to try their best to push us as far as they possibly can whilst we try get the best Deal we can . This will take time and eventually will be sorted one way or the other. Whilst Sancho is a great player he wont be a world Superstar playing at Dortmind in the Bundasliga , in order to become a Global Icon he will have to move to a club like United or Barca or Madrid and he knows that . This is just a matter of time . Sit back and enjoy the ride .

Neither is average. Zaha is good but I doubt he would be able to step up a lot from his current level. Grealish otoh is better than Zaha. He has a big potential and seems at the right stage of his career to perform at a bigger club.

They'd 'worried' about our financial wellbeing. Who cares about paying for extremely talented players when we can fight for a top 4 spot every year and get that CL money.
