Spanish clubs get away with a lot of shit transfers. Dembele griezman for barca, jovic hazard for Madrid, morata felix for athletico.

He was never as good as Neymar – while their general play was comparable at some point, Neymar is obsessed with contributing goals and assist, and that hunger alone puts him on another level.

Awful performance today, anonymous.
Also after all these seasons, Hazard only has 8 UCL goals. While Neymar has 35..

Hazard 4 non penalty CL goals
Neymar 33 non penalty CL goals
And Neymar got to Europe 2013

A lot of revisionist stuff here based off a bad performance, I mean Hazard was a sensational player for years and even if he doesn't do anything else he'll also have that. But I wouldn't rule him out at Real, he's just back from a bad injury.

Hazard isn't a natural scorer and never will be, but adds so much more to the game at his best. He is more like Luis Figo or the old style wingers, I don't think you judge him by how many goals he scores. Secondly Neymar has played for Barcelona and playing with Messi in the latter stages of the competition whereas Chelsea have been inconsistent and missed out altogether a few times whereas Neymar has played every year.

I would have to wait another season to see if he is gone or not as he has had his injury issues this season.
I have to say I was amazed by Varane whom has always looked so assured when I have seen him play before but he was like a deer in headlights in this game.

Woeful season for him, partly physical with continual injuries, partly psychological due to pressure of playing for RM, partly tactical as well I think.

The variables are tied to Real Madrid's performances and not Hazard's - Chelsea get bonuses if Real Madrid qualify for the CL and if they win major trophies (e.g. the league this year).

Maximum possible value of the deal is €145m; Madrid are on the hook already for €120m. A further €15m is all but assured should Madrid qualify for the CL over the next two years; if they win two more major trophies then Chelsea get €5m for each.
Any reliable links for this?

I think a lot of us called this. He simply doesn't have the personality or the leadership skills like a Ronaldo or Messi to take a game by the scruff of the neck and win it. At a club like Real where every move of his will be scrutinized he's gone into his shell. At Chelsea he got away with it as the standards set were lower and he was the big fish in the small pond. At Real there is no hiding place. One goal all season (albeit he's spent some time out with injuries) is simply unacceptable. Even bad boy Bale has scored three.

The moment he arrived overweight at Real you just knew Roman was laughing all the way to the bank. He'd achieved all he wanted to in the game and lost the desire for perpetual improvement like the upper echelon of players do.

For a player to get his dream move and then turn up to the new season clearly unfit and overweight is bizarre and definitely doesn't bode well for him being a success at Real Madrid.

He did that many, many times at Chelsea, including big games.

As for his Madrid from, I've not seen hardly any of it but the numbers are shite. Perhaps we sold at the right time.

Messi and Ronaldo comparisons are totally unfair, if they are the benchmark then every other player in the world is shit.

It wasn't too long ago he was being mentioned in the same breath as them when he was at Chelsea.

Maybe Neymar would be a good comparison.

You definitely sold at the right time! And got a player with a higher ceiling in Pulisic. Great business by Roman all round.

Let's be honest he was always a good but not great player. I've said it for years. Hazard won't be remembered as one of the very best in the future.

He's Zidane pet project even made Flo forget about Neymar to sign him instead of course he's going to play every game as long as Zidane is there.

What's this based on Its easy to get carried away when it comes to young players but I don't think Pulisic is in same class as Harzard and I highly doubt he would reach similar heights even.

Chill. He got a good season under his belt. How many times a young player got a good season then fade into obscurity ?

He definitely was. A lot of people saw him on the same level as Neymar. Some had him the best in the league. There was never a point in his career where he was either.
I agree with this

Awful lot of revisionism here. He’s shite now, but he was one serious player for Chelsea. I’d even go as far to say he possibly scrapes a top 5 of PL history for them. Pulisic higher potential, ffs. He was never as good as Neymar - nobody bar Messi and Ronaldo are - but that’s a conversation for another thread.

Interesting to note the adulation David Silva gets in contrast, btw. Very similar players — PL royalty but have done absolutely nothing in Europe during their peaks.

I agree re: Silva. I think he's fairly overrated too in the grand scheme of things. He's been a complete non-factor in the Champions League for City.

Isco's 2016-2017 season is better than any Silva had IMO.

I have to laugh at the questioning of his mentality.

He carried our attack on his back for most of his time here, especially during the 2015 title run in where only he and Courtois didn't completely collapse.

There's no two ways about it. Hazard was a tremendous player for Chelsea and he's been disappointing for Madrid. Both are mutually exclusive.

But his peformances have been strange. At Chelsea he would never go missing. For Madrid he just seems less active in games. Fitness issues?

He was absolutely brilliant for Chelsea, lets be fair.

The last few seasons in particular they were close to a one man team with him, certainly in terms of creativity.

There were certainly doubts about him being a success at Madrid though. And those people who doubted him doing well at Real look to be correct so far.

He wasn't overrated at all whilst he was at Chelsea.
He was, I've always maintained that stance.

His record in the UCL is disgraceful for someone many regard as top 5 and some at the time claimed he was the BPITW. 8 goals(4 being pens) in 50 CL games...

14 of his 16 league goals, which included penalties in 18/19 were against all the lower sides in the PL.

A very good player but definitely falls its the overrated category.

His numbers were still good in his last year at Chelsea but there were areas of his game that had stalled.

Fallen into that habit of just being too static on the wing, waiting for the ball to feet, rarely making runs off the ball, an ongoing issue with his game that has limited his goalscoring. Every attack had to through him at Chelsea, he saw a ton of the ball, held it for too long a lot of the time. Doesn't really press either anymore.

Jesus the revisionism in here is crazy. I think I spent the majority of Hazard's time in the PL wishing we'd paid that agent fee for him and being jealous of Chelsea for having him. He was ridiculously good and to try claim otherwise because of his issues at Real is daft.

For me the only other two players who I'd have put on his level overall in the last six years are Aguero and Silva.

Hazard great dribbler but slows the game too much. compare to Bruno who's not flashy but whose almost every touch has a purpose and is constantly trying to thread passes through or loft the ball into space behind the defenders.

I was talking about this with another fan on this forum & we agreed with something like this. Sometimes players in the PL can be adapted to be the main attacking threat of the whole team rather than split it across the team equally and balanced with tactics.

For example, I saw this with Coutinho at Liverpool who was scoring long shots for fun in the PL especially pre klopp dominance. Coutinho being the main man was one of Liverpool's main tactics back then. He moved to play at Barcelona later and then was made to adapt to just be a single part of a team following tactics that didnt individualise him and it showed. I saw this with Hazard at Chelsea aswell, being individualised to his benefit only to possibly find it hard just to be one part of 11 equally. Theres quite some players I can see with this.

I agree. He said he plays for fun. He has the talent but maybe not working as hard as he should to be one of the very best at the highest level of the game.
