I'm genuinely curious about the comments that adults don't wear jerseys. It's very common to wear them here. (But not full kit of cos. That's for wankers)

Since when is it weird for an adult to wear an item of clothing of their favourite sports team? Would people hold the same view for adults wearing their favourite bands T shirt? Seems an odd view to take

I like the shirt overall, think it looks nice, it’s certainly not revolting. I do think it looks abit too much like a normal t-shirt but I’ve noticed that’s a current trend with football shirts I think as a method of appealing to more casual people. I haven’t bought a shirt for a few years now so I don’t think I’ll get this one either but that’s only because I end up never really wearing them. If I still played 5 a side regularly then I’d buy one again.

Nope. Wearing football shirts seems a bit too young for me now (33). Probably get my son one though

If you're an adult there's no reason to be wearing any football shirt
I think a better point is if you are an adult there’s no need to complain what they look like. We get this every other year for as long as I can remember. ‘The shirt is shit’. It’s not meant to be in Fashion Week. We all know the new shirt will be red and will have the sponsor’s logo across the front. Some teams opt for some funny away kits sometimes with I dunno, cow print or camouflage etc - but a Real Madrid home kit will always be just a white shirt, a Juve one will have black and white stripes. I never get the complaining about them personally.

I really don't care what other people think. You shouldn't live your life like that. No matter how old you are, you should wear a football home shirt if you want. People being judgemental is one of the things I hate about modern society. I wear manchester united home shirts and couldn't give a toss if people don't approve.

And I don’t think wearing a football shirt is young personally. I’m early 30s and still buy them. They are great casual/loungewear to me, and people rep their colours at all ages. I’ve bought one every year the last four seasons, and I always buy the Nigeria one whenever they change it. I collect basketball shirts too I guess, and also buy Leyton Orient ones.

I think it’s revolting. Someone described it as a bus seat cover and I can’t un-see it

Will you be buying?
No chance. It's rubbish. Not that i intended on buying either way but even if I was, I'd hold off given that terrible design.

I seriously don't get it. I don't see what's wrong with wearing your teams home shirt no matter if your 30 or in your 40's. Basically i think it's people being judgemental. It's your life. You should do what you want whether it's wearing a football shirt or something else. Currently thinking of going to University at 30 year's old due to being in a dead end job with a degree already. Am I now too old at 30 to go to University?

Of course you can do what you want. But wearing a football shirt is something you do as a youngster, whilst some older people will wear a shirt, it clearly becomes less common.

Of course there is. Not very seriously but a poor design should be mocked/called out. The whole point of a kit design is for it to look good, which is subjective of course but all the more reason for people to have a view on it. And there's no age limit to have an opinion on how good something looks whether it's a car, an actress or a football shirt.

And on that point I don't think age matters when it comes to wearing a shirt either. I'm wearing our 08 one right now in fact. It's the comfiest thing I have other than my Kurta Pajamas!

I think I have got to the age that I am more interested in the club's polo shirts than the team's playing jersey. It still doesn't stop me picking up the first team jersey at some point though be it a Christmas present or buying it at the end of the season. Releasing a new kit each season means unless the manufacturer does something divisive to make it different then they all look much the same. I have to say though I am massively disappointed that Adidas have yet to give us a kit with the three stripes all the way down the sleeves.

Oh my God. What is wrong with wearing a football shirt if your not a youngster. And why care what people think if they see you wearing a football shirt. I am 30 and I wear one. You really think I care what people think. Now if someone doesn't wear one if there not a youngster is fine too. I just think it's being judgemental.

Will probably wait until the away top comes out not 100% sold on the home top.

As for the are you too old debate I think you’re only too old when you think you are so if you want to wear a top at 60 more power to you..

It's more than likely a european/culture thing, they don't wear the jerseys because only players and kids wear them. Which I find hypocritical because when the NBA/NFL is in London everyone is wearing jerseys even if the team isn't playing.

The point is, any fan can predict to 90% accuracy what the shirt will look like. Still the same reactions all the time though. During the course of the season, nobody cares.

nothing wrong with it. I use to remember the generation before me, they didn't want to wear Jordans or athletic sneakers in public because they were too old, boots, loafers and oxfords only. Now its part of general causal fashion and everyday wear.

I wouldn’t ever buy a new United top, they’re far too expensive.
Not wanting to wear a football shirt as an ‘adult’ seems weird to me too though, they’re comfortable and great for lounging around in.

Only wear football kit when you have a fit physique....that's the golden rule to be honest.

I bet those who disliked the idea may have excessive man boobs and beer belly..

Picked one up for my 10 month old. Her first football kit! I like it and will probably pick one up if the price drops as I only wear my United tops now when watching a game.

Yep it has become common to wear your sports teams shirt. I live in New Zealand and see people wear crusaders or any other Super Rugby teams home shirt in public who range from being 20 to 39 to people who are middle aged.

I buy a shirt when I'm over to watch a match. Doubt I'll be over the coming season due to covid.

I won’t be buying it as not a big fan... if we had a really nice shirt I’d be tempted but I don’t wear them out casually. I only wear them if I’m exercising... on a run, playing squash etc.

Won't be buying the new one as I haven't bought one in years. Have plenty from when I was a teenager that were probably too big then, as they still fit me now. Those are in my running gear rotation. But never wear anything like that outside of running/sport.

Yes but 10% can make all the difference in design. 08 and 18/19 are worlds apart, for example. Both are red, both have Chevrolet and United logos/emblems but one is miles better than the other.

Of course over the season nobody cares because a shirt is only a teeny weeny part of the club and supporting it. Goes without saying really.

Got the shirt for me the wife and my daughter. Love the shirt.

Dont get the debate saying people in their 30s cant buy shirts, bit childish imo to try and sensor what people should and shouldn't be wearing (although to immediately contradict myself, a grown man in full kit should be mocked).

I work on a simple philosophy that if I like the short I'll buy the shirt. Worked for last 20 years.

Thanks for the reply.

Definitely cultural I guess. Football jerseys are popular casual wear in Southeast Asia. People of all ages wear them on the streets.

To answer the op though, nope not this season's. I got the last one as I really liked the tone of red.

Yeah, I find all this "I am too old to wear football shirts" too fecking strange to be honest. It is more "childish" to me to have a restrictive mentality like that than to actually do what you like and not what is "socially acceptable".

Not buying the stagecoach bus seat cloth.

I'm more interested in a smart subtle training top but for the most part I don't wear football gear for a long time now. Could be tempted if a really good looking shirt came out but Adidas have brought out some bad designs while Bayern have had some decent ones.

I used to buy them for the gym but even then the later years it would be a copy but that was years ago. Now I prefer to wear a normal tshirt or vest top instead.
Got no problem with adults wearing them though, wear whatever makes you happy.

It didn’t look too bad during the game but when you see it close up the yellow or gold through the thread pattern just looks rubbish. Might have been an interesting design had they just stuck to different tones of red thread through it to get like that Nike flywire effect,

I only buy them because I collect the shirts. However £80 for a shirt with a name and number on the back is an absolute joke. I always wait until after Christmas when they cost less than £50. Even then they are still expensive.

I’m a 40-something year old man and I’ve got no problem wearing a United shirt. In fact, I’ve currently got the old retro Sharp sponsored shirt winging its way to me from Thailand (hopefully) and I can’t wait for it.

The only problem with this latest shirt is the same thing that was wrong with the last few...the fecking cheap arse looking Chevrolet transfer on the front. That gold cross looks abysmal. Proper amateur. I probably won’t buy another United shirt until it’s gone...please someone tell me it’s soon!?

I’m an adult (I think? I’m 30 and have a kid) and I wear football shirts. Especially during Covid I wear it daily as I usually do a work out/ play tennis so will only do that in sports gear. I actually wore a Juve shirt to meet up some mates on Friday as I liked the way it looked.

People who think other adults shouldn’t wear football shirts are dorks in my opinion. They go around turning their nose at others when they probably dress like their mum picked their clothes.
