I’m an adult (I think? I’m 30 and have a kid) and I wear football shirts. Especially during Covid I wear it daily as I usually do a work out/ play tennis so will only do that in sports gear. I actually wore a Juve shirt to meet up some mates on Friday as I liked the way it looked.

People who think other adults shouldn’t wear football shirts are dorks in my opinion. They go around turning their nose at others when they probably dress like their mum picked their clothes.
I posted this in another thread, but this opinion has always come across as really weird to me. In my country football shirts are extremely popular. It's quite surprising that people on here seem to think it's weird for adults to wear them, and I never could quite wrap my mind around why.

Whilst I’d never wear one in the street I had started to think that I might start collecting them. When I saw that they’re asking for £80 for a Greenwood named shirt I wrote an angry letter to my local MP instead.

What country are you based? To be honest it does feel a little ‘uncool’ to wear a United top in Manchester. Think it’s pretty cool to wear non English shirts though.

Trinidad and Tobago. It's probably an English/European thing, but in all the Caribbean islands I've been to football shirts are pretty common.

HELLO
Nothing against people wearing them. I can't justify the price these days. 65£

I don't think I would buy it for my son as its too expensive for something he'll grow out of in a year. I am an adult, all I have is a classic late 50s / 60s plain long sleeve red top with white cuffs like we wore then, which I sometimes wear. No badges or numbers.

To be honest, while I won't go out of my way to buy the shirt myself, it'll probably be gifted to me at some stage anyway as it's the easiest gift to get me really. If I get given it I'll probably wear it a good few times. Also, what is it about wearing a football shirt that makes it anymore immature than wearing any other casual shirt? It's baffling to me that people could have this mentality when it comes to sportswear. I'd understand if it was the full kit with football boots of course but if you're wearing a shirt with jeans casually then I don't see the issue. And before you ask, I'm from Ireland so it's not as if I'm living in some far off culture that has a completely alien perspective on kits.

I haven’t bought one for myself since the early 90s, I‘ve bought them for my kids since then though.
The youngest who I go to matches with is now 20 and he’s carried on buying a Utd shirt every year, but he collects them so waits until they’re reduced at the end of the season.

Dhgate is the way forward. £40 for all three
I ordered the home shirt from there the other day. I’m interested to see the quality of it, last time I had a dodgy replica shirt you couldn’t really tell the difference.

I wouldn't take any viewpoints on here as representative of any form of general nationwide concensus. You can invariably assume that in most cases, if something is scorned at on RedCafe, it probably means it's ok. There are loads of adults in the UK who wear football shirts. And rugby shirts are just as popular too. I had a window cleaner rock up at my door touting for business in a City shirt (in Somerset) and the inevitable banter ensued once I identified myself as a red. I see it all the time and it does not look odd at all. I've put on a bit of timber so can't wear my old shirts but would if I could. I'm just not paying those ridiculous prices anymore.

Got the shirt for me the wife and my daughter. Love the shirt.

Dont get the debate saying people in their 30s cant buy shirts, bit childish imo to try and sensor what people should and shouldn't be wearing (although to immediately contradict myself, a grown man in full kit should be mocked).

I work on a simple philosophy that if I like the short I'll buy the shirt. Worked for last 20 years.

The viewpoint of an adult being too old to wear a football shirt or any sport teams shirt is nonsense. Also the thing about football shirts is they are comfortable to wear. There even more comfortable to wear than some other types of shirts.

No problem with anyone who wants to wear a football shirt, but it's not for me. Never been a fan of any football shirts from a fashion perspective. Our training kit looks nicer this year IMO. Probably wouldn't wear that either though. I'd maybe wear some of the adidas retro shirts, some of those are really nice.

Absolutely, my 08 one is one of the most comfortable things I own.

I haven’t bought a replica shirt since the black 2008 one, not because I haven’t liked any of our kits, just haven’t felt the urge to wear them anymore. I have been gifted a couple since then though and I wouldn’t complain if I received the new home jersey or the black away one we’re getting, I think they look good.

I play football and tennis in them - but then again I have about 50 so I have to use them for something

I usually buy the home and away every year for 5 a side. Have already ordered the home top but not ordered the away so far because it looks horrible.

I was very on the fence about this seasons home kit, the bus seat thing nearly killed it for me until I saw it on the lads the other night and it's won me back round. I get what people say about adults and wearing football shirts but personally, I love them, I've been developing a collection of shirts from around the world for the past few years and as part of that I always get at least one of our shirts a season. Plus, I've found wearing one in my tinder profile pics acts a great deterrent/filter...

Where the hell does the time go? Was gonna say AIDS wouldn't have meant much to people circa 82 but that's when the U S of A let the World know there was a seriously problem even though they had been aware of it since the 60's - I thought it was early to mid 90's!

No. But I haven't bought one for so long I feel downright depressed thinking about it.

That said, this one looks shite. Probably won't care after five minutes of seeing it, mind - but still, it does look shite.

No, the only reason would be to go to games in it but i dont live in the area anymore so no need for that. The last one i bought was the white away shirt from 2012/13.

I havent had a Utd shirt since I was 11 in 1971. I had the no 11 on it as I was 11 and Bestie was that No. In fact that was the only shirt with a No on it at the time. all were No 11.

I'll probably buy the 19/20 one at a discount. Love that jersey.

Will buy the 20/21 this time next year I guess.

Also need that beautiful black kit from a couple of years ago!
