Had Beelzebub himself not imbued their goalkeeper with his power, we'd have score 4 or 5 more goals.

How many games have we won this season 1-0 on a pen?

Still in it, though, so onward and upward!

Ole: There are no good saves, only poor finishing

So looks like it was a game full of poor finishing all the way. Martial, Rashford, Bruno, Pogba all just dreadful with finishing.
Ya I agree with this, apart from a well taken penalty.

Er, what? Firstly it's not true in any sense, but it's a strange comment in a game that he didn't start and was good without being amazing when he came on.
Yeah i agree this game was nothing special from Matic, but watching him reminded me Carrick (always in the right position) and I've had this on my mind for quite a long time. Nevertheless, his composure on the ball and ability to find passing options is fantastic and miles better than Carrick (who in my view has always been very overrated o here).

Rashford must come off the bench in the semi-final he was hopeless tonight and Mata made the difference when he came on like a "spring chicken!"

Not great, but we're through. Their goalie was having the best performance of his career, no way he'll every top this. 4 shots hit the post as well.

We could've, and should've scored 4 or 5 goals. København could've/should've had a couple as well.

Positives:
  • Martial MOM. The boy can dribble!
  • Greenwood unlucky, The boy can shoot!
  • Bruno good at times. Such a cool head from the penalty spot.
  • Pogba good.
  • Mata was a very good sub, good tactical decision by Ole.
  • Lindelöf saved Williams' arse several times. Underrated player.
  • Bailly and Fred both played fairly well, with some obvious mistakes.
  • We're through to the semi final. We're going for it, as we should.
  • 180 minutes left of the season, let's finish it with a trophy!

Negatives:
  • AWB must do better. He's Valencia Mk2 at this point.
  • Rashford needs some competition (JadON?) for his spot, or some rest. He looks clueless at times, and looks nothing like his peak this season. Has to step up.
  • No minutes for Ighalo is strange.
  • Finishing. We simply have to convert some of the chances in this game. Unlucky, sure, but also not good enough.
  • Williams is struggling defensively. Has to improve (and I reckon he will).
  • Letting this game go to 120 minutes did us no favors going forward.

First half was pretty shite but we did well in the second half and extra time. If not for the keeper we score 3-4 goals here.

Doubt we will beat Inter if we meet them. They are better at what they do than we are what we do. Go a goal down to them and we are fecked.

Rashfords form is a bit worrying. He is being very reactive and not proactive on the pitch. He just seems to be waiting for a counter attack all the time.

Conte will be creaming himself watching this game, especially the first half. Its a blue print on how to stop us. That is if we beat Wolves or whoever in the semi.
blue print on how to stop us. stand on the edge of your box and concede chance after chance haha

Best GK performance against us since Neuer in 2011. He was absolutely outstanding.
The Neuer comparison came to my mind too. Who the hell is he?

He'll get a PL move on the back on that though. Absolute hero.

Pogba, Bailly, Williams, Maguire, Greenwood and Mata have played well. Rasford and Bruno were poor but in general, we were by far the better side and deserved to win by a much bigger margin.

We should be used to journeyman keepers playing out of their skin against us by now but that must be the best performance I've seen in absolutely years.
That keeper actually went in history today. He made the most saves in a match from the moment Europa League was renamed.

We were the better team, came up against a goalie who was making save after save. The heat would have been sapping as well. The cramps at the end would have come from that.

I just read a funny stat that the Copenhagen keeper Jonsson, in this game, equalled 24% of Kepa's total amount of saves this PL season.

I don't like Pogba that deep. His game relies mostly on out-strengthening the oponnent to make some space for a pass. He has little impact on the game, yet can produce a couple of great passes when given time on the ball.

I'd give Fred some games I his position as he impressed me today.

Also, Matic is twice the player Carrick has ever been.
Steady.

Im a Matić fan but give me Carrick any day of the week.

Tough match. Copenhagen have a good record and only lost by one goal for a long time. We've created lots of chances with some slick passing but just couldn't find that finish and their keeper was doing his best Peter Schmeichel impression all game. Another night it's 5-1.

Are we struggling with the heat? Terrible performance from us.
Rashford is a shadow of the player he was earlier in the season, wonder if he is still feeling some pain. Maybe Chong can get a chance there next game.
Martial looks class.

We can only improve from this game

It is exactly what Inter will do, assuming we get passed the semi. And we wont have chance after chance like tonight in the second half. Then Inter will get some poxy goal from Lukaku in the other end.

30 years old, joined them this year from Guingamp in France and just the seven caps for Sweden. One of those out-of-body experiences for him tonight, without watching him I still feel confident enough to say that was likely the best performance of his professional career.

Without him between the sticks, we win that by three or four easily.

Dublin.
Frustrating game.
If we had scored earlier we would have won it well.
Copenhagen keeper played really well but we really should have scored well before we did.
Still there with a big chance.

I thought that was quite an entertaining game. The second half in particular was like a defence vs attack training game, with the odd threatening counter attack thrown in.

Keeper aside, they were gash.
I thought they were okay, stopped us making chances better than most teams for 60 mins and that one winger carved out chances really well.

They fell apart a bit as the game went on, but I thought they were impressive for first hour

Did he say that?

A born and bred striker through and through

If there is one thing we will improve next match, its definitely the finishing. OGS will make sure of that!

So relieved it didn't go to penalties with their keeper, who had probably the best performance I've ever seen since De Gea at Arsenal a few seasons ago. It boggles the mind why that guy isn't at a Premier League club.

For me this is a slightly more intense preaseason. It took us time to get going, but when we did, we utterly destroyed them. I really do not understand how we only scored one.

Observations:

a. Fred can deputise for Matic. We may be slightly weaker defensively, but he allows us to bring up the ball like we usually do. It means that Matic can get lots of rest and Fred can get lots of minutes.
b. Mata can be an option in our attacking rotation.
c. We still need some more consistent creativity on the flanks. Greenwood was good as always, but he is essentially a striker who can play on the flanks. He will have a spot when he is ready, regardless of who is at the club. But we need that consistent create threat there as Rashford can be very patchy at times. Signing Sancho would benefit us in this regard, but even Grealish would suffice.
d. Martial seems to be getting to that level now....that world class peak level. It's something to watch out for. He's starting to consistently create chances for himself, its getting scary. It's something to look out for.
e. We all know Williams isn't good enough to start, so we need to make a definitive decision on that position. Shaw is clearly good enough, but he can be patchy. His injury record means that trust in his ability to play consistently needs to be analyzed. If we do decide to move forward with him, signing a higher quality back up may help us curb the uncertainty of his injuries. If we decide it's not him, then we should cut our losses and sign a fitter left back. AWB is always fit, so Williams can back up for him during games we want to give him a rest.
f. We need to make sure we give Pogba a new contract, superb performance throughout.
g. Finally, both Lindelof and Bailly are capable as short term partners for Macguire. Smalling is better than both in my opinion, but I am not sure that option is still available for us. A centre back who is good at dealing with aerial threats and covering Macguire's lack of pace would be sufficient. Make no mistake, I honestly believe Macguire is one of the top centre backs in the world.

First half was shite - second we stepped up. Keeper played well. So long and draining I’ve turned the post match off

I'm convinced that Martial visits the Caf. He must have read the dribbling thread and decided, forget scoring, I'll just make the penalty box my own personal dance floor

I've said before, Rashford is not right. There's something wrong there, I think he's been carrying something, and I'd hate for him to pick up a long term problem if he's managing an injury (unless it's a psychological barrier). He is typically the most hardworking of our frontline. Even during his worst games in the past, you knew he'd harry the opposition, make runs, and give folks a torrid time. Over the past few games, he's been the least hardworking by a distance.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Yeah i agree this game was nothing special from Matic, but watching him reminded me Carrick (always in the right position) and I've had this on my mind for quite a long time. Matic is a better dribbler than Carrick and also better in the air. Carrick beats him in pretty much every other aspect, quite easily in most of them. He was better defensively as he had far better positioning, was better at always positioning himself to receive the ball, and when he got on the ball he had better vision and passing ability. And even if you think all of those are close (IMO they aren't), Carrick was far far more consistent than Matic has ever been. Matic has been here for two and a half seasons and has had about one seasons worth of good play during that time.

Mental comment, did you watch Carrick?
Yeah back then I was watching every united game, I never understood the love for M. C. on this forum. To be honest from my experience and many, many hours of discussing football over the world I don't think many people outside the UK did.

Their keeper made some remarkable saves, the two deflected shots in particular. Was like watching peak De Gea

We should have made it more comfortable, but could have been worse. I'd like to see us engineer more chances for Greenwood, absolutely lethal given a couple of yards in and around the box

It was never going to be easy tonight. Too many fans just see the name Copenhagen and think it’s a easy 3-0 win. Football isn’t like that. They have earnt the right to be in the quarter finals of a European Cup. Mix that with 32c heat and a goalkeeper is made a record number of saves in Europa League history (13) just about sums up the game.
