Mindblowing to hear from Scholes  , been one of his tougher critics. Says a lot that he's been slowly changing his mind lately
I had an argument with someone on here who claimed Scholes didnt think of Anthony as a proper number 9.

A monstrous performance.

A real shame he didn't score.

Is there a video of RVP/Scholes praising him?

Exactly. Martial is very lucky he was very talented into the scene as a teenager which means despite Mourinho wasting 3 years of his career, he's still young to fulfill his full potential.

After his first great first season at United he should have established himself as a bonafida world class in the next year or two. He was the best young talent when he joined us, a regular in the French team despite his young age(Deschamps himself always says he called Tony in the French squad very young) and was a golden ball winner. Everything was set up for him after that first season to go on and establish himself as a world class player in the next year or 2.

Unfortunately for him Mourinho happened, and now he has to do it all over again. Good thing is that he's still young and on his way to fulfill his potential.
Yes, the only thing I would add is that in his second season at United, Martial had some fault of his own in his predicament with Mourinho, where he was dealing with baby mama drama, wasn't in the best shape and with the best wind, and clearly had times where he was distracted a bit. His second season with Mourinho is the one I believe Sanchez joined where Martial had turned the corner and we know the rest.

Another game breaking contribution. He's world class. He's just getting started, he can become as good as he likes.

RVP calling him world class is a bit out there IMO

Scholes praise was surprising but warranted he has been performing much more consistently

Overall I thought he was good tonight once or twice he could have pulled the trigger instead of taking an extra touch which I think ole will point that out to him

He played as good as anyone regarding his dribbling, but his finishing god damn. Should have scored a few at least to be honest.

Martial was our best player by a long way. His general play was very good. However it has to be said he wasted 3 or 4 very good chances too which normally he'd bag at least 1.

I thought for large parts of the game he was a bit quiet. We struggled to get anything in to him and when we did it was in a difficult situation. However he just turned it on later. If he’d scored some of those chances then Jeez. That one just before extra time where he beat a few. The long ranger was good as well.

The 90 he was pretty quiet tbh, but extra time he came alive. Think the extra space helped once they tired out a bit, they clearly are a good defensive team going by their record.

such a shame he didn’t score that one identical to the palace goal

Started poorly, but improved a lot second half. His dribbling was so bloody good. Should have scored though from some of the chances he had.

He's been consistently performing at a very high level now for several months, what else should he be called? Game after game he puts in great performances and his consistency hasn't dropped. How to you characterized such a player?

I'm quite sure next season loads of non clueless pundits won't be shy to say it. RVP just ahead of the curve.

The only attacker we have that genuinely gets me off my seat with his explosiveness when he goes on those dribbling runs. Magic player.

Everyone's saying he should have had a goal but I say he would have had 2 goals and 2 assists on another night.

I hope the Hunger from missing out on goals this match fires him up to grab a couple in the next match.

But where has this consistency come from? Since the restart I believe he has had only one poor match and been good to excellent in the rest, I'm quite certain this is his new normal and long may that continue.

He was playing well before lock down. He basically has been playing well since the arrival of Bruno and that was months ago. Post lock down he's taken it a level higher but even before that he'd already been playing well pretty consistently.

This. Most people thought for sure he'd fill this big need on the right because Martial was probably the best player prior to his purchase for a good run of games. Mourinho royally fecked this up and Martial's development, luckily he's still young and he's now on the path he should have always been on.
People were calling it the right move back then. Shocking they couldn’t see this talent blossoming just because of old people mentality (manager must be right agenda).
They bought into a dinosaur looking to take our future away. Now alot of these people act all flabbergasted “never knew he could do this!??”

o rylly.

Think Robbie savage needed a change of underwear after that game. He was Nevilling with every touch and turn

This is the reason I've always been part of the Martial fc gang, you just know if we could get the best out of him you'll get a footballer who is just unplayable, incredibly gifted footballer

Looking forward to seeing him re-integrated into the French team too. He’s head and shoulders the obvious choice to play centre forward for them going forward, and with Mbappé and Griezmann, would form a fearsome front line.

Word. I think he did good with his back to goal at first but didn't get protection from the ref, and it was just silly they didn't receive a yellow card after about 20 fouls on us. I think the parts in the game he weren't involved coincided with the periods where Rashford and Bruno couldn't reach players with their passes. You have to admire Martial for trusting himself despite being left alone for large parts of the game. To just turn it on like that is an incredibly valuable skill and shows some mental maturity in his game, I think it's quite clear Ole has helped him develop as a striker and player. I'm so happy about that, and that we have been patient with Martial as he always had that world class potential and you can't just give up on that, so happy it looks like he'll reach it at Man Utd. Coolest dribbler in the PL.

That he was

Though I'd argue that he was doing it more in moments pre-lockdown rather than for the whole 90mins and that's what I mean by "where has the consistency come from?"

Anyways, that's all semantics and the most important thing is that he keeps this level of performance going which I'm sure he will.

That's what I've been saying, playing Giroud ahead of him now should constitute a criminal offence.

Exactly. There is a debate on talksport tonight. People rightly accusing Pundits and ex United players of a bias against Martial. Most callers saying Martial does not get enough respect because he is not English. One caller today highlighted RVP's comments vs Scholes, Neville and Giggs towards Martial, and he concluded there is xenophobia towards Martial especially from the ex United players. Jason Cundy surprise surprise defended Giggs, Neville and Scholes. Try to listen to it guys. I have to say I agree with the caller. His name was called Omar

I wouldn’t call it Xenophobia in most cases, but it’s obvious he’d be received differently if he was British by both fans and pundits.

What really bothers me with him is that he sometimes vanishes but it always looks like he can do what he wants so you wonder why he isn't showing up more.. But he has really showed me this season I have had my doubts about him being a starting forward for us but he is having a great season and OLE should get a huge praise how he has handled Martial..

This isnt a normal striker who just gets goals - as RVP said; he creates for players around him.

Thats why he can be 'quiet' if the players are not in the right positions around him just as much as if he is not in the right position himself.
