This is so true! Rather pay silly money for Sancho than make a panic buy (still over the odds). We can cover the area we were desperate for (RW) with the best talent of his generation. We can cover the CB,CDM,AM later because there aren't such good options for these positions like Sancho for RW. Next year maybe a top young CB will be available or promising CDM, Graelish cheaper etc. Just pay whatever Dormund want (btw all these transfer fees are crazy these days)...

absolutely disgusting what dortmund are doing to make it seem if Sancho does leave/force a move he'll be painted as a mercenary that pushed his way out. if this was bayern munich that wanted Sancho, they would have just given him for free, fecking small time club.

remember Raiola had to chuck a chair to get dortmund to sell Mkhitaryan

Panic buy? There are 2 months left in the window to find an alternative.

Dortmund getting everyone in the squad to say how happy they are that Sancho stays. Cringeworthy club

Can you explain why? Are you mad at BVB because they don't want to sell their best player to the holy United? Can you then just sell Pogba for €40m to Juve or Real, please? Or should Real now say "well they did not sell their best player to us, we don't make a deal with them ever again"? And I am not even mentioning De Gea->Real.

First you guys belittle BVB as a selling and feeder club. Then, when you realize that they don't want to sell, you get mad. This is somehow really funny.
Maybe it's their insistence to use an intermediary rather than negotiating direct with United?

If it's Dortmund's choice to do that, why are the (UK) press saying United have to pay the intermediary's fees?

Dortmund should get off their high horse and negotiate directly, not just swamp social media with childish posts.

Pogba was the year before Lukaku. I think we signed Lindelof and Matic that year with Matic being the late signing.

I think if we sign him at all it’ll be soon as Dortmund won’t sell late in the window and they’re trying to push the agenda - Sancho will either request a transfer or says he’s staying this week I reckon.
Good point! Shows my memory! I just remember them doing loads of canoodling and it was all matey. Then suddenly they were never seen together again.

Bayern have been the best side, most consistent by far, in Europe this season and will only improve as they have some of the best young talent in Europe in their team. I don't think they'll be in danger of not winning the league anytime soon.

I just wish they would've shut up about their rivals last month though instead of belittling them . The 'point to prove' attitude we've seen coming from that rival since has become quite problematic in our pursuit of Sancho who we've had in our sights since Ole took over. They suddenly feel compelled to defend their status/pride and identity as a club now instead of acting in accordance to their usual business model of being content with selling their top talent for massive profit a few years after signing them.
They had the perfect opportunity this season when Bayern were going through a tricky time and ended up finishing 13 points behind them.

I know Dortmund is a good place for players to go play but players outgrow Dortmund, we have seen it with almost every top player. They are in CL and finish top 4 in the Bundesliga without any real pressure, if you want to take your career further, he has to move. They wont beat Bayern and CL the aim is Quater final really.

I would love to see it if we get Sancho this summer and someone gets Halaand next.

No, its this need for rival fans to group together against big bad Redcafe to set us all straight. Its a waste of everybodys time. Its not even about Sancho. Everytime German football is questioned, or even a simple player link, the Bundesliga fans come running, ready to scrap.
My problem with this is attacking the English press and Utd ourselves. We havent made anything public, Ole refuses to comment on it. The English press have been muppet killers by refuting every German report about his close negotistions are, wages being agreed etc.
But feck me Dortmund are running to the press every day about 120m, deadlines etc etc fecking etc. Theyre holding press conferences on fecking deadline day, their social media accounts are trolling for no reason whatsoever. Their fans are taking this way too personally.
When Pogba was linked to Madrid, how many soundbites do we have from Ole? Did Woodward ever comment on it?
You cant claim Utd fans are kids when the other side are publically gloating in a one sided PR binge.
Love to see it though.
Well said.

Depends on what you mean by big player, is it a big fee or big name player?
Before preseason started

2014-15 -
Shaw - Record breaking deal for a teenager/FB at that time
Herrera - 30 million was a big fee back then.

2015-16
Schneiderlin, Bastian, Depay all before preseason

2016-17
Mkhi, Zlatan, Bailly all before preseason. Pogba was on vacation till first week of August, so when we signed him didn't matter much

2017-18
Lukaku, Lindelof all before preseason

2018-19
Fred, Dalot all before preseason

2019-20
AWB before preseason.

We have done plenty of big names or big money signings before preseason started.
Out of your examples only Lukaku is the only that feels a big signing of a summer to me. Maybe that's just hindsight talking.
And of course Fred was a "Big" fee, but it's hard to think of him in anyway as a big signing due to his output since - even the few months much improved.

That 2016-17 did feel something special - you fear we won't be celebrating that sort of summer, but more a 18-19 one.

I think it's funny

It'll be even funnier if we land Sancho at some point this summer, making a mockery of all those tweets from the players, the chairman, and club associates.

I'm especially looking forwards to the "Welcome to Manchester" banner that will be plastered all over the NW of England shortly after his arrival.

I'm better than Messi (even though I'm not)
That's been my main worry over us potentially dropping out of talks here. The only links have been the likes of Coman and Dembele who for all their clear talent, have been quite injury prone in their young careers. The lack of a like for like alternative puts us in a bind when it comes to trying to really improve our options up front. Greenwood has been a revelation but is still just 18 and we're still an injury away from having a massive drop in quality up front.
Traore and Zaha

It would be absolutely hilarious with an transfer request from Sancho now.
It wouldn't make a difference. Plenty of wantaway Dortmund players have had that request denied in the past. It would only lead to Dortmund digging their heels in and isolating Sancho.

Dortmund often come off as a holier than thou club but they're right cnuts when it comes to transfers.

They've been the one's pushing the narrative throughout. The way they conduct business is incredibly unprofessional.

Jadon's a professional if a deal isn't agreed he'll honour his commitments to Dortmund and then leave when one is agreed. Time is on his side so even if not this season, he'll end up somewhere else eventually and can even run his contract down if Dortmund want to take the piss.

Dortmund are hoping for a bidding war next year but they'll look silly if he ends up leaving on a bosman at 22.

They finished 13 points behind Bayern Munich despite only finishing 2 points behind them the season before. So, they actually finished further away than they had done previously. To me, that tells a story that they had a chance to perhaps overthrow Bayern this season but just didn't take it, or simply they don't have it in them. Bayern Munich have won that league for the last...8 years running. I'm sure Dortmund can close that gap a little this season, but I don't honestly see them winning the league. With or without Sancho. They have a better chance with them, but Bayern Munich have got a stranglehold on that league.

I don't think he'd lose too much and be painted as a mercenary if he handed one in. Just say he's been there 2 years, he feels homesick, wants to go home, he's very grateful to Dortmund, he likes the city, the fans etc. I'm sure his agent can write a statement from him that would minimise any damage.
I think the real question is does he want to come to Utd badly enough to do it.

Traore and Zaha
Haven't seen any links yet and their clubs would definitely try to take us to the cleaners as well

Zaha has been putting in transfer requests for years now and they keep asking for 60m+ regardless. Think if he does leave he'll end up at Arsenal.

Can't see Traore being sold though if the Jimenez rumors are to be believed.

All things considered though, they'd be dowgrades quality wise to Sancho

If all of this stuff from Dortmund is true - they want 120m, by august 10th or no deal, then cool, we should absolutely walk away from this. JS is a quality player, but asking that money in this climate is ridiculous. At most we should be spending 80-100m on this deal. As much as I would love to see him at United, there are other players out there that could improve us for next year.
Going to play the devil's advocate here. How is what Dortmund are doing any different than what we did with Pogba last year? Is Pogba worth 120-140m? Not to RM apparently. If he was, they simply didn't have the cash and won't have it this year either, hence the more likely reason that Pogba is reportedly signing a new deal. Had covid hit last year, would we have lowered our demands for Pogba? Not a chance in hell.

Back to Sancho and Dortmund. They value him at 120m euros regardless of the economic impact of covid and said he can leave if United pay it. I'm of the mindset that it's not an astronomical fee considering the players stats, age, nationality, and marketability. United just want to feel like they're not paying the asking price and want to negotiate. I think Dortmund's settling price is lower than the 120m euros. If they wanted to be sure they get 120m, they would raise the asking price and negotiate down to 120m, or perhaps they fear asking more than 120m is too much and we wouldn't be interested at all. Maybe if we offered more up front the price would be lower. Whatever the case, Sancho is Ole's request. He fits the mould of what he wants to bring in. Dembele does not. Havertz does not. There is still plenty of time in the window. I think Ed will know what's best for United financially. We walked away from the Haaland deal because United did't want to pay agent fees and insert a buyout clause. I don't think you can blame Ed for that. If United can't afford the 120m asking price, United won't pay it. Simple as that. No use in losing sleep over it. Let's wait and see what happens.

Exactly, last season was the best chance for them winning the league.

They have also lost Hakimi who was a crucial player for them last season.

I can only see Bayern going from strength to strength considering they played alot of the season without regular CB's. Since the turn of the year, a few players have really shone and will improve again next year.

I think it's telling that Sancho hasn't said a word on anything yet, if this was off he could quite easily say he was staying, he hasn't though.
So game on muppets.

Yea it's kind of been a bit funny that we've heard from damn near everyone at Dortmund about his future besides himself even though he's apparently supposed to have been extended by the club

You always hear from the player in question when a club announces that they've extended their deal but it's been radio silence from him and his camp so far...

Exactly

We know who the children are after the Mkhitaryan transfer comments. The Sancho stuff has all been from Germany right down to the German defence brigade flocking to redcafe.

Edit, right on cue, more noise from his team mates now.

Maybe because I was provoked and want to get back at you? I thought banter like that is funny and German posters just don't get the irony behind that?
Provoked?

Why, especially in this thread, do you German posters come in en mass to belittle United on a United forum? Just curious.

You can imagine all the players, who released a statement, sitting in a press conference with Sancho. Between each statement being read the camera turns to Sancho and he looks right at it with the biggest cry smile ever.

might have missed it in the giant PR wank fest that they're having at Dortmund right now, but Sancho himself hasn't spoken, has he? Pretty funny if that's the case.
