So why mak your post then? It doesn't get more speculative than that?
No. I was appraising the previous post for its speculation (and contrariness) not offering my own.

How is this a problematic post? It's an opinion based on news from reputable sources. Is that allowed?:houllier:
You didn't offer an opinion as you put it. You drew definitive conclusions based purely on conjecture.

My reading of the use of the terms 'given' and 'seems' is that they weren't drawing definitive conclusions.

Self defense as expected - hopefully they gave the other group a good kicking before hand :D

"Can't fault him for any of this". It would seem so.
They said 'given what I've read he seems pretty innocent'

They go on to detail what they've read and then say can't fault him for any if this.

Its pretty clear they meant he can't really be faulted if what they read was true, to me.

This is a problematic post. He assaulted someone but is simultaneously innocent of any blame as he may or may not have done so for a particular reason which as things stand cannot be confirmed and is entirely speculative.
I love how his legal team rolled into town and suddenly he's defending his sister from being stabbed by thugs and mistook plain clothes police for attackers. Getting his money's worth

Could you have any more of an agenda?

"Suddenly"? We never heard his side before this. Now they might be embellishing the truth as would be normal in a case like this, but it's not like they "suddenly" invented a new reality. We had heard from the cops who never report anything other than basic facts. Facts that can be interpreted differently with more information.

I don't believe this and Maguire's side of the story. Pure PR shit. I only believe the side of the story that makes Maguire look the worst. Take captaincy of him and end his contract!! Am I doing this correctly caf?

So opposition fans singing nasty songs about a footballer is justifiable context for violence in return? Is that what you are arguing for?

Do you remember the level of abuse Beckham used to get after Argentina game in 1998? Dont remember him getting into a fight with idiot opposition fans.

of course they were trying to goad him into a fight! That’s hardly surprising. He shouldn’t place himself in such situations if he can’t emotionally deal with it.

Hey I hope he gets off. Why would I have an agenda against our own player? I'm just glad he's providing some pre-season entertainment.

If the physical abuse towards his sister is right, then...

Has he arrived back in Manchster yet? Can’t imagine he’ll stick around on Mykanos to finish his ‘holiday’ or wait for Tuesdays hearing!

he has alot of delicate conversations with the club in next few days

You've at least turned me to a new show so thank you for that. I think it's safe to assume they'll be paying their spin doctors as much as their lawyers.

If thats true... it's something you expect to hear in a children's playground. Adult men acting like this is just embarrassing (for all involved). Behaving like a child is certainly not captain material.

I know, a lot of 'supporters' only too quick to stick the boot in, if you can excuse the phrasing. Everyone entitled to garner their own opinion based on the information out there but don't understand the tendency to attack our own players.

Maguire doesn't really come out great if that is true anyway. It's extremely childish to go around fighting people when they say something you don't like. Ask them nicely to stop, if they don't stop, call a manger or something. If the situation still continues and you are really angry, just leave to one of the other multiple bars there are.

hahahhahahaa! ask them nicely to stop  what a perfect, soft life you must lead. People like that will never stop.

What if Maguire and his group did leave and they followed them and then tried to fight them in the street?

Maguire isn't stupid and i'm sure a fight was the last resort. You act like this is the first time he's ever been on holiday ffs.

Maguires is on top of a lad after scuffling to th. e floor while his mate his kicking the lad hes on top of.
Hmm. I mean obviously videos like these, as you will know yourself, can be deceptive for something as simple as us not seeing what happened before the filming started. That being said it still doesn't look good.

The post I quoted says that he got angry at people calling him shit at football and has no mention of his sister. Now we don't know what is true, which is why I qualified my post with 'If this is true'.

Where is the proof of this? I have seen nothing that confirms Maguire was involved in any fighting.

Unless you can prove otherwise he is just being arrested of suspicion.
There are videos. By the way

And he was not arrested, he was not jailed, but you do understand that there are good and legit reason why he's asked to come to police station because he's involved (or potentially involved at least), nobody knows better. The cops could have bring everyone in and take statement. Like in every other civilized country.

If you're on the crime scene you will normally be detained and asked about it. If all checks out you're free to go.

So you think maguire has nothing absolutely nothing to do and it's only a corupt cop looking for money?

I said 'ask them to stop nicely' as a first resort. Don't pretend you didn't understand what I meant, or are you condoning that you should just fight anyone who says anything you don't like as a first course of action? There are a plethora of ways to respond to something like that. Fighting them and giving them what they want is not the correct way.

Do love the elements of English exceptionalism in this thread.
For example?

It’s probably been a painful lesson for Maguire that, as a United player, you have to be more careful than as a Leicester player. In an ideal world, he’d be able to have a night out in a bar without being abused by idiots but, in reality, he needs to avoid these type of places and go somewhere more private.

Link?

The only one I've seen is very inconclusive and you can't see Maguire at all. He was wearing a white shirt with blue shorts and I can't see them at all unless you have seen better.

As more reports comes out, it seems like Maguire will be deemed to be on the right side of whatever happened. Might be similar to the Ben Stokes incident in that regard, so he will probably be able to keep the captaincy and be ready to start the season.

It should now have dawned on him already, but if not the manager, Ferguson or a fellow senior player who has played at the elite level for longer needs to advise him. It’s fine being a normal lad who has a group of ordinary mates with whom you travel to international tournaments and holiday with when you are at Sheffield Utd or Hull, but you’re now the most expensive defender in world football and club captain for Manchester United. You shouldn’t be just hanging out in places like this where the potential is always going to be there for a group of pricks to get you in trouble. A similar incident that veers off a little worse could cost you your career and the club will already be furious at the reputational damage done.

Can you elaborate?
One example is the disparaging remarks on particular police forces abroad especially towards targeting British tourists, when our various national police constabularies, especially the Met in London, continue to systematically have their own ingrained bias in targeting black people.
