Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but it genuinely feels like we only invest when we’re not the CL.
I'm concerned about this too. Invest heavily when we finish outside top 4. Then scrimp and save once we are back in. We are a top 4 yo yo club at the moment. "

United only invest in the non CL years, so they ensure they do not miss out on the Adidas money which is reduced if we fail to qualify for two years in a row.

That's why this happens.

Manchester United have only finished in top 4, 3 times from 2014 onwards...including this season.

Lvg was fully backed in his 2 seasons.

Jose was backed 2 out of the 3 seasons he was here...one of them being when we qualified for the CL via winning the EL.

This season...preseason hasn't even started! We can't comment until after 5th October.

I know what you're saying here, but the season kicks off on 12th Sept. All the teams around the top 4 are strengthening, Chelsea especially, and if we're not careful we'll be playing catch up again this season. We need to get players in early, to train with the team, understand Ole's vision etc. The worrying thing for me, is we're not even being linked with anyone at the moment.

I hope we're all proved wrong and Ed pulls it out the bag!

Ours starts on the 19th, but your point still stands.

Ideally you'd want all our business to be wrapped up sooner rather then later, and certainly no later then a few days before our first game.

Forget Sancho games. Grealiish, Alcantara or Coman & a centre back.
Coman was superb yesterday but I’ve always been underwhelmed by him. I watched a lot of Bayern when Bundesliga came back and actually thought he looked out of place

Chelsea are a oligarch run club. City state owned. Both clubs who have been charged with illegal wrong doings. Not best to compare ourselves to these 2 clubs, as we know they run totally different to us and any other clubs in the league.

I too will be concerned if we get no one, however, like Lfc did last year, there is NO point in buying a player just to add numbers. If we are going to commit money to players, we need to make sure they fit our club and will be making a contribution.

Fire will be lit under his and the Glazers ass from all angles if we fail to obtain Ole targets this summer.

The likes of Keane, Neville etc will be laying the blame of any shortcomings this season at the feet of Woodward and the Glazers also, no way they get away with not investing in the squad and not backing the manager.

LVG can fcuk off. His signings all approved by him and were broadly appalling and left a negative legacy as we still can’t even sell some of them.

And his methods proved to be bludgeoning and antiquated and delivered a boring and joyless brand of football never seen before at Old Trafford.

I admired LVG as a man and personality and he made me laugh a lot. And I’m thankful for his desire to blood youth. I’d love it if he were my uncle. But his own days for being a footballing man are long gone.

I pointed this out but someone clearly smarter than me said that it didn’t make sense. Seems pretty obvious to me but it is just an opinion.

I wish fan anger and opinion could drive these fecks out but as we’ve seen over the years they couldn’t give a shit how the fans feel.

If he dares to go into the new season without a single transfer, there's need to be an uprising.

In fairness, with him as manager we had a guy who used to know football, but from 20 years before.

His reign was peak dullness.
Not shooting unless it was a superb chance, Rooney must always play.
Schweinsteiger, Blind, Falcao, Di Maria, Schneiderlin.

Martial was his one saving grace.

The problem with this thread is that it's not directed at the real people who are to blame, the Glazers. Ed is just their puppet.

So why have they spent £1.2b on players since 2013?
This is the argument that goes back and forth. They do invest money but only when revenue is going to be effected. I.E when Champions League qualification is a threat two years in a row. That reduces the Adidas contract and also the huge loss in revenue from the Champions League itself.

There is a trend that (a lot) more money is spent when we haven’t made the Champions League. The last time were in a position to push on, having finished second, we purchased only Fred and Dalot. There were a number of player sales which meant our net spent that summer was well below £40m. And José has said many times Fred was not his signing.

I know we cannot spend huge sums every season but there are ways around that. Targeting players with contracts ending soon or the loan system. We never utilise this at all and it’s a huge loss to us. We end up paying huge amount on players because we spend the bucks when we are out of the Champions League. This means hiked up salaries to persuade a player to sign us and clubs demanding more for players because we know we are desperate. This is on top of the United inflation.

When was the last time you can say we got an absolute steal of a player? Maybe Chicharito, which is prior to Woodward. The guy doesn’t know what he’s doing. So many anecdotes have come out regarding his incompetence and general demeanour. He’s the problem along with the owners.

LVG was correct, Woodward is a Banker, a finance man. His number one priority is to make money for the owners and if he can spend very little doing that, then so be it. He probably doesn’t know that much about Sancho and he’s now got to find money for Pogba’s new contract and agents fee plus any bodies he does bring in. Oh and Maguire legal costs. Same old story.

What a mess our "supporters" are on Twitter when they don't get what they want and get what they want now, not next week, now! They're almost as bad as a match day thread.

In terms of Ed Woodward, he has failed on the footballing side of things. Totally. Glazers have failed even more so as they're the one in charge, it's their club.

In terms of the investment about CL is false.

Why are people getting up in arms. It's so early in the window and we all know how Ed operates anyway - he waits until the last minute and then pays full whack. We won't have news for a few weeks yet!

On paper, I think most of LVG's signings were good but failed to bring out the best of them.

He's is absolutely bang on when it comes to Woodward. I find it appaling that he's still in charge of the football side of the business.

You just answered your own question bud. People are up in arms because of what you just said about how Ed operates. And they have every right to be.

I get that but it's highly likely we're negotiating with a few clubs/players now. It's super early in the window and I feel people are more reacting to Chelsea's activity than anything else. Massively important we have a good window and sign the right types of player, for that I have no issues with sitting back and watching things unfold.

They had just won the CL. We just lost the Europa League semifinals. Not the best example to make your point.

Chelsea obtains Ziyech, Werner, Havertz, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell (rumored). We obtain: No one so far.

Chelsea are blowing everyone out of the water so far this transfer window

United is rebuilding. The process takes time. Realistically, United will be competing for the PL by 2022/23.

Why would Bayern sell Coman? And even if they did, it would probably be close to Sancho money. Thiago looks determined to join Liverpool.
