Who should be United's Captain in 2020/21?

Maguire is the best captain we have had for a long time, I have no idea why we would want to change that. If he’s found guilty on appeal then maybe we do need to consider it but for now he deserves it on merit.

Having an armband means nothing in this day and age. Being a leader on the pitch is what counts, that doesn’t change due to Greek Courts

Biggest club in the world need to lead by example as we always do. Can’t have a criminal as our leader.
Even if he is proven guilty, I’m sure we would all accept the potential to be a convicted criminal in those circumstances where it comes to defending your family.

I would happily accept a criminal record to defend my family.

It means alot actually. A captain is not just meant to be a leader on the pitch, they have numerous roles to carry out off the field.

The captain of the club means you have to do alot more off the pitch, organise team events, team bonding, be the link between the players and the manager.

Posts filled with absolute dross, and by the same token the other poster could say your posts about Fernandes are filled with 'fanboy stupidity' and 'delusions'.
Ah, see I have had the privilege of having my posts replied to by the head of the Pogba fan club
It just goes to show your lack of comprehension about anything when Pogba is in the conversation when your only mission is to defend him at all costs with no regards of displaying your own stupidity. Where the hell am I advocating Bruno getting it or fanning over him :houllier:

Bruno is the only one who shows any high level leadership qualities on the pitch. Its a clear choice. Not everyone is captain material and I feel the United captaincy has become a bit of a comedy recently and it feels like any old person can have it nowadays.

I had my doubts but he proved he is a captaincy material in Greece. I prefer him anyday than a run away coward. If he stood up against Police means he can stood up against anyone for his team mates.

Let Bruno do his talking on the pitch instead.

It sounds all romantic until he gets bodied on the pitch.

It was Bruno arrival that lifted United's dressing room not Harry's

Captaincy is nothing about "lifting" anything apart from trophies. There's a lot more to it than that.

Honestly, I bet if it was upto some people on here they would have stripped Carles Puyol of the captaincy and gave it straight to Messi as soon he established himself in the team...

There are plenty of reasons why Maguire should remain captain. some of them include:

English media bias - less criticism on our him as a captain because he is a England starter.

Off field duties - If not everyone is aware, a captain has alot of responsibility outside of the pitch, Maguire is probably good at those things, whilst Bruno has only been in the country 6 months.

You don't just give Bruno the captaincy because he has been a captain and is a leader on the pitch. So what? we are allowed to have more than one leader on the pitch, the more the better anyway.

The way I see it we have a lot of captains on the pitch already.

Maguire is a good face for the official captaincy especially with the media and with referees on the pitch, so he should keep it and hopefully he can get some silverware to back it up.

Can mean a huge amount. A very good recent example was Mark Noble at West Ham or currently Jordan Henderson at Liverpool. They both ran their dressing rooms and were hugely loved by their local community.

The issue with Maguire (aside from Greek courts) is that the opportunity came too soon as he has very little emotional equity with the club and fans for it to be meaningful. That was the key reason I was hoping we won a trophy last season, as it would have cemented progress, and provided an opportunity for Maguire to create emotional equity with fans. Oddly enough, his Mykonos debacle provides him the same: A majority of fans have become invested by backing his character against the charges. If he can handle the situation like Beckham did in 1999, by improving his performances even further, inspiring his team mates to lift a cup and getting out and about in the local community, he will gain the entire fan base's trust and admiration.

I think OGS can make Maguire's job easier by appointing Bruno as VC, that way we have two authorised vocal leaders on the pitch and at both ends.

I thought this was sarcasm but I am not sure.

Old Trafford will sing Maguire's name loud and proud whenever we are back. We always support one of our own. So Maguire it is.

The captain should be a world class player, somebody the other players admire and respect. We have only a very small number of candidates. I would choose Bruno.

“Captain” is completely outdated concept in my opinion. Sure , someone to lead out the team and swap stuff in finals. But for me, after kickoff it is meaningless. Pretty sure I felt this way when “armband” started.
Sure , teams have leaders who have driven team to victory but for me, every player should not need someone to perform at the best.

Maguire may wear the arm band and be the captain for media purposes, but the on field captain is Bruno. He leads by example, but most importantly raises his team mates game to another level. That's what it means to be captain. At least in my opinion.
