Do you people have to pay complete money upfront? I am trying on one of the retailer here but they are asking full money upfront.

Nice but will just get cancelled I'm sure!
Not me. Someone on resetera, I managed to preorder one from GAME too, but cost £515 or something with controller.

@VeevaVee I got on amazon before the link was even up. Managed to get one with GAME just in case. Same thing I did with PS5. Those two are the ones, now to debate which one I should cancel. Amazon have great returns, but DPD are better couriers than Amazon. Jeff Bezos vs Mike Ashley.

Tip for Argos, if you manage to get it in your trolley but order won't go through, go back to your trolley with the Delivery/Collection - Out of Stock message while it's in your basket, then just refresh every now and again. If it comes back in stock youll have really quick access to placing the order, which is how I think I managed to get there in time.

Ordered an X in store at Game, all pretty civilised until someone threatened to beat me up because I wasn’t queuing inside. What’s the point of being sandwiched inside? That’s not safe so i waited until there was no queue in store before walking in....they should have had a one in, one out policy anyway! obviosuly the pandemic doesn’t exist in preorder land

also ordered a Series S on Amazon because I’m undecided. PS5 will be my main machine so perhaps it’s best I just get an S for the Xbox/Bethesda games.

Eurogamer have the expandable storage as £159. The price is from Smyths, but sadly their website is a bit shit right now.

Pre-ordered from Amazon but tried to get All Access too. Smyths was saying no consoles at 8am, and I got into the queue at Game only to end with a 'Site is closed for maintenance' page.

Series S still available at Argos 1 hour 23 minutes after pre-orders opened.
The S isn't for the hardcore early adopters, it's for the parent buying for their kid at Xmas or a 2nd console. I'm sure it'll sell bucket loads if they have availability on it.

Do we know how well standard external storage will perform?

I have one of these in a case. Thinking I'll put indie games on it, and bigger games directly on my Xbox, with a view to buying the official extra storage down the line.

It is similar to PS5 in terms of you can use any old HDD to play older games. But Xbox uses proprietary cards, so you need to buy official ones, if you want to play series x games on them.

You can continue to use your existing USB 3.1+ external hard drives on Xbox Series X and you can run Xbox One, 360 and OG Xbox games directly from the external USB HDD,” explains a Microsoft spokesperson. “Games optimized for Xbox Series X and the Velocity Architecture need to be run from the internal SSD or the Expandable Storage Drive

Ah ok, so probably won't even be able to have updated indie games on there. Shit's gonna get expensiiiive.

The S is also easy to produce. Look at the size of that thing. You could produce four of them in the time it takes to produce one PS5.

Once again, and say it with me:

Series S is not an enthusiast device, it's a secondary console aimed at the general public that don't want to splash lots of cash on gaming hardware.

Now, guess who pre-orders day one?

I wonder how some people tie their own shoelaces.

Yeah @esmufc07, who ties your laces?

I've no interest in the X but will probably do the All Access for the S in the future.
This is correct.

Honestly, I don't see much appeal in buying an Xbox this year. I think the appeal will start to show come Christmas next year when Microsoft start to bring out some noteworthy exclusives and you can get full value out of the All-Access option (unless of course you missed a lot of the games currently on GamePass then it's a good option still for those people).

There's all the third party games people want to play in the meantime. Cyberpunk, AC Valhalla, COD etc. all available on release or very close to.
There's loads of appeal for buying this year if it's your primary console.

@Coxy how the all access thing going?
Finally got one from Game! Ordered it at half 8 after being in a queue for ages. Never saw a dicky bird on Smyths but sorted one with Game - so happy. Did you manage to get one?

Yeah, Amazon and GAME for the X. Going to end up cancelling probably GAME.

Which model did you end up going for?

I'd agree if you don't have a current gen console already. You can play them all on current gen, so I'd argue that there is no need to upgrade right away, unless you're in (what is definitely a minority) that want to play the game in the 'full phat' experience of 4K and hopefully improved framerates (not happening for ACV it seems at least).

I don't think there's an argument that All-Access is a better deal a year down the line when you can start with Halo and probably get more exclusives in that two year period than if you bought it in November.
