Surely he isn't good enough to go straight into first team squad?

Anyways, you're probably right, on this player all roads most likely lead to Ole having the casting vote.
I mean, see the level of some of our backup players. If a 20 year old is really talented he could play a backup role in the 1st team. 17/18 year old talents, sure, but usually 20 year olds are more well rounded. I could be wrong about this one given I feck all about him of course.

All he has to do is be as good as or better than James. How difficult can that be?

Just cos James inst yet good enough for United doesnt mean he is so crap. Leeds rate him very highly, and he'd get a gig at lower PL clubs or top championship sides.

Posters who know Norwegian football say it's about Championship level, but without so many games, so actually even a level below. There is zero evidence that this kid can even translate his level of performance from a level below James right now, into playing for Manchester United!

Ole will fly out to Norway to talk to him, before he signs for Dortmund for £3.5 million. A year later he'll be linked to us for £350 million.

Well he did damn sure put on a clinic versus Milan at the San Siro playing for a Norwegian minnow. But I don't know, maybe I've got it all twisted, maybe James could turn Milan inside out.

For £6m this is a no brainer signing after his showing against AC Milan. Low risk, high reward signing that we shouldn't ignore.

I don't think James is capable of a performance like Petter Hauge put up against Milan.

Honestly selling James to leeds and buying this guy instead would be a masterstroke.

To be fair James caught everyone's attention by terrorising Man City's defence in a crappy cup competition for a Championship side.

How strong is the link as all I can see is one of our scouts has followed him and not much else?

So, sporting director of B/G confirms there have been submitted bids for JPH. They are in no rush to sell, but admits he may be sold before October 5th. If he is, they hope to keep him until the norwegian league finishes. source

JPH answered to journalists after the match:
«Of course i have ambitions and dreams for my career. I feel that i showed today that i can perform at a high level in a single match (seems to kind of question his own consistency at high level). It is hard to say wether i’m ready to step up to a big club already, or if its better to make a more incremental move (club/transfer).»

i think he wants to finish the season at B/G, and would either want a project where he gets significant playing time, or a plan with loans to get him the same...
I have a feeling a deal will be done for him before oct 5th, but like he and the club wants he’ll stay at B/G for the remainder of the season.

It's well documented in Norwegian media that we have scouted him extensively since the beginning of the summer atleast.
I remember Utd scounted Haaland extensively, before he was well known, and before other foreign clubs were on to him. Utd were on the stadium in Haalands break through match, when he scored 4 goals vs Brann, and continued sending scouts throughout the season. Still wonder why Utd never made an offer, when they couldve bought him from Molde for about 5 mill. Let's hope they don't do the same mistake again.

Looks promising. And good that he produce at a higher level, but one game is hardly enough?

What he do in Norway is not that interesting. A 15 year old Odegaard was player of the year in that league. There has also been a few others who have been amazing, but had a very hard time in Turkey, Belgium or Holland.

Might be a case of low risk, high reward. But for OGS the risk is a bit higher.

He got a goal and an assist away to AC Milan last night, watch the performance on the previous thread and tell me James could do better than that? This kid looks night and day better than James already.

We took a gamble on James but let's face it he's not ever going to progress more than he is now. He'd probably do better under a manager like Bielsa anyway.

Yep, sell Lingard for 12 mil, Pereira for 8 mil, James for 12 mil. At this point, i’d rather sell them on the cheap than keeping the deadwood.

with that amount, you get Telles and Jens Petter

A 20 year old winger that can play both sides, and actually shoot with power rather than practically breaking his leg to get it on target inside the 6 yard box? count me in.

I wonder what would happen if Giggs was manager and we took only Ole's advice on what players to buy.

?

Ødegaard was never player of the year in Tippeligaen. He has however been voted "young player of the year" and rightfully so. Ødegaard was an absolute immense talent when he was 15 years old. There's a reason he ended up in Real Madrid after that season (and "all other top clubs" tried to sign him as well.

Last time a guy terrorized Milan before joining United was Ji Sun Park. But that was an entirely different Milan. United are also an entirely different United these days.

Bodø should really get a bidding war going. The difference between €4m and €6m for them is huge.

Why are we sending scouts to these games in Norway if we don't even try to sign someone like JPH? Surely we have to be in for him.

The question he will be asking himself, is if he shall follow Haaland´s example and sign for a smaller club where he is guaranteed play time (ala Salzburg), or already try the bigger stage. It would be up to Ole to persuade him, if United are at all interested.

Just sign him ffs, we spend more on academy players in the first place.

Even if he turns out to be a bust, it's not going to cost much but if he turns out to be a serviceable option on the right wing, we'll have struck gold.

What the point of watching a players over a period of time and you don’t plan to sign him. Alex signed Bebe out of impulse after of a scout recommendation. What kind of scouting network do we have here? Scouting is to find a player with future potential and not someone who is already to set into XI. If you are finding players who step right into XI, then it will be based on analytics. Dortmund is finding cheap players and selling for a profit. We could run the same model except that good players will not be sold.
