The reality is it's going to take 5 games to get fit (2 more from now) and another 5 from that to get our intensity and sharpness. Everyone's shipping goals in at the moment and not everyone in the league can be shit, some teams have to be good.

Let's see how we're playing 10 games into the season, I reckon we'll be fine.
10 games into the season? We can't be waiting 10 games into the season before we start to hit our straps as we might end up in the bottom 5 if things do not improve. And this is just not a valid enough excuse at this level of competition.

United have Tottenham, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton as their next 5 fixtures.

We are a frisky club that has the mental fortitude for a 99th minute smash and grab away from home against a superior side. I have confidence that we could finish as high as 8th this season if we can continue to scrape results like that!

Ed Woodward -- transfer window genius -- credit goes to him as the architect. He's done a lot for such a small club. We're lucky to have him, as there should be bigger clubs like Burnley and Fulham who would want him as chief executive. The depth in the squad is quite an achievement on such a limited budget, the fact that the manager has a plethora of options to change the match is a testament to the organization's scouting and transfers department.

Firstly, obviously I enjoyed those last 10 minutes, it was great entertainment and it was great that we got the three points. Might well go down as one of our best results this season given the performance.
We were largely awful: Pogba, Martial, Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka were awful. I usually defend Pogba and Lindelof but not today. The players generally looked way off the pace and knackered. Also, we had little in the way of a discernible approach to the game. At 2-1 up, even after making substitutions we could not close out the game, stamp a bit of authority on it. We were taken apart time and time again by Brighton. We could easily have lost by several goals. I dread to think what a better team, or a team that took their chances, would have done to us.
Yes, it's one game, but we were poor last week and there was a growing trend towards this kind of performance at the end of last season. This can not be attributed solely to our lack of signings.
The good news is that surely we can only get better. Awful performance, amazing result.

I didn't even want us to score at the end, we are a disgrace, the manager is at best bang average, and the players aren't putting in the work.

I'm afraid we're stuck like this for the foreseeable. :(

Well it wouldn't take 10 games if we'd have played 6 or 7 preseason friendlies as usual, but under the circumstance's you can't speed up fitness and intensity because you don't feel it's 'valid'

Get the feeling this season is going to have more ups and downs than a roller coaster

Poor today and plenty for Solskjaer to do with this team - unacceptable for the team to be so defensively poor and irresponsible when picking up players especially March

ffs I turned it off when I thought the final whistle went :lol::lol:

Never in doubt, easy.
When they scored in what I thought was the last minute and the ref seemed to blow for full time I turned off in disgust and walked around miserable for 2 hours. Then went to BBC to check on the other scores and saw 2-3. Thought it was a mistake ! Been watching games for 65 years. That has to be the weirdest.

There was less than 3 weeks between the end of the previous and the start of the new season and it should have been easier to transition or keep up the fitness. This is obviously unprecedented circumstances, much like most of the the other teams - so they are all in the same boat.

Using fitness as an excuse will not float for majority of the team, for not hitting the ground running and teams will pick us off if we don't sort ourselves out in the next game or so.

What I don’t understand is how in the space of a few weeks we have lost all fitness, shape, awareness and ability to pass a simple ball. Of all the teams I have watched since the season started we are the worst. Today was daylight robbery.
Agreed. Same players but we look absolutely lost.

Have three weeks off from exercise then go and do one leisurely 10k.

Then two days later enter a competitive 10k race.

Let me know how you get on and I'll come on here and give you loads of shit for not being fitter and how your excuses aren't valid for not winning.

Everyone's shipping goals in, in case you didn't notice, the whole league is at it. This isn't a United specific problem, we've just had less time than most. Pogba's also had COVID and is a further two weeks behind our current 'fit' lads.

As a runner that's a superb analogy.
Went and raced a 5k after months without competition the other week, and funnily enough it wasn't peak condition!

My point wasn't that you do not need to be fit to be competitive, rather the excuse for not maintaining fitness. You can't be comparing an average person to an athlete or sporting professional that is paid 100k a week - if i was then i would definitely be advised or obliged to keep up my fitness during the relatively little time off.

The whole league definitely at it, in terms of shipping goals and being a bit off pace - but we seem so lacklustre and inept. The attacking and defensive thirds don't have any cohesion or urgency, which leads me to think we lack the right approach in training when in comparison to other well drilled clubs at the moment.

Players went on holiday. Didn't have a proper break. Disruptive summer for some.

Its the perfect storm really.

We will get better fitness-wise with more matches. The pressing was much better after we went down a goal. Then you could see us visibly tire towards the end.

Just glad we escaped with 3 points.

Lets see if we can raise our game against spurs. Its a big game.

Glasgow resident these days.
Does Ole watch Netflix on his screen? Can’t be watching the game as there is zero in game management.
Gaps all over the place and never, never addressed them. This team is so, so much better than this.
Horrible to watch. When did we last play well?

Me and my lad went ballistic when that winner went in...the ABUs in the pub were giving it the big one when the equaliser went in, loving it, and so we had no choice...haven’t celebrated one like that in a long while! It’s what United do...no matter how shite we’re playing, we never give in until the final whistle blows (& now after the whistle too heh!). At least Ole has reintroduced that to the team. He’s reintroduced the team to their testicles and it took big ones to rescue that game today.

After that arrogant pr*ck Maupay thought it was appropriate to take the p!$$ out of United, early doors too the bell, this result was karma, big time...I hope he’s still drying his tears now!

I don’t get all this “I feel sorry for Brighton” and “I’m embarrassed to win that” nonsense on the CAF tonight either...feck Brighton, diving cheats! If they're not good enough to bury the chances they had, too fecking bad. You don’t get bonus points for hitting the woodwork.

We don’t owe Brighton anything. United is my club and they come first, second and third! I couldn’t give a shite if they dominated us for 89 minutes and we score off Martial’s left arse cheek. I will happily take the 3 points all day long. We’ve had plenty of those over the years and we’ve been robbed plenty over the year’s too (beat West Ham to win the league anyone...?)

Yes we were poor but it’s early days and so we move on and will improve, no doubt...

I remember looking at the clock at 90mins and 58secs and thinking I just know they'll create a chance before the final whistle. You just know we can't keep a team away from our goal for shit. The amount of effort it takes our team to carve an opportunity compared to our opponents......They created 3 golden opportunities in the next 5 mins and scored one. That is a complete joke for a team defending a result. I wouldn't mind but Matic was one of our better performers I'd say, the man responsible for protecting our defence, yet as a team, on average, for were giving away a shot on our goal every 3-4 mins for around 20 mins before the end! Our back 4 right now, for money spent, is laughable. Scary if its just being behind fitness wise.....

Soton all over again. Except this time we had 11 men on the pitch.

We escaped with this one. Hopefully the next time we defend a lead the lads will be more focused and aware.

Bruno was to blame this time for letting his attacker go unmarked. All is forgiven though!

5 goals conceded in 2 games. tumescent football. 3 points out of 6. Challenging City/Dippers my azz.

Matic is one of the best players in our squad (gold from the balkans) and Pogba is done, just an early peak 2014-18 has-been.

Very happy we won.

That was a woeful performance though. Probably the worst I can remember in a very long time against a smaller club.

We had incredible luck.

The fitness argument is wearing thin, you do the right things, set out properly and run out of steam doing the right things, but we are not set out properly, the biggest concern looking at this team is the lack of cohesion in attack, if we are playing with a front 3 can we push our front 3 up against opposition defences and let the midfield provide, every time you look at an attacking passage of play develop the likes of Rashford and Martial are deep looking for the ball and many times today in that situation Bruno was the most advanced player, greatful of the points but in terms of long term viewing the only bright spark from that game was Rashford's composure and confidence for his goal, but hey, he was in the box, Rashford, Martial and Greenwood collectively should be doing damage on the regular with each other creating and scoring collectively as a front 3 in the final third around the box. Pogba was crap. Bailly for all his rashness needs to start instead of Lindelof, he will do more good than bad, Lindelof needs a softer league. The amount of chances we created was poor, our goal threat was awful. I would also say we only reacted a bit after conceding, Shaw went on a run that resulted in a free kick that we equalised from, why did it take us to concede a goal for a player to do that.

That's our worst win in years in terms of performance. Worrying on one hand but huge that we dug it out. If we're to persevere with Ole he needs backed in this window or he's gone by March

That performance was pathetic all around. I dont know how we couldn't workout how to pick up March on the back post. He had 3-4 chance before he finally scored.

The center back partnership of Maguire & Lindelof has to end. I've been saying it for awhile but they simple do not compliment each other at all. We need to (hopefully) sign a center back before the end of the window or (more likely) play Bailly instead of Lindelof.

Match fitness is entirely different to being fit from exercise and gym work etc. Im sure you have experienced what its like when you played for the first time after a summer break. Even down at our levels of playing its noticeable

Clearly not an actual fan. Imagine, taking pleasure out of a last minute winner away from home. All a bit embarrassing. Missed the memo. Appropriate emotions are shame, embarrassment and absolute rage. We'll let this one go, but cop on. Final warning.

Poor coaching.
The most in-shape players we have are Matic and DVDB.
Matic is an experienced guy who knows how to keep himself in shape. DVDB still has the Ajax influence, as he only just arrived. Our younger players are the ones most affected by our poor coaching.
Our fitness coaches should all be replaced or re-trained - they abysmal at their job.
