We've been craving for a proper dead ball specialist for years, have we finally stumbled upon one?

Love that angle of Martial's goal. One thing is the training ground routine between Fred, Bruno and Martial but having the vision and ability to accurately pull off that pass requires a different kind of swagger.

I can't even remember our last decent set piece specialist. We had Jones for a brief period but before that? Giggs?

He’s had one or 2 good efforts at goal too hasn’t he? Any videos of those?

I think he hit post vs Chelsea

Maybe Nani?? I do remember some nice corners he put in for RVP. Also quite a few assists for Rooney/Berba etc from open play crosses..

Really can't underestimate the impact of having one of your starters be set piece specialists. So many tight games in a season, having that added threat turns loads of draws/losses into wins. Hell, look at both of our big games since hes come in. Chelsea away and City home. Set piece assists made a massive difference to how the game flowed.

Fred is a good set piece taker?! In the league he has 11 % (5/42) successful corners. KDB in comparison has a 28 % (41/144) success rate while aiming for midgets in the box. Not to mention Fred's direct free kicks, NFL kickers are envious of those.

RVP had a sensational corner on him in his first season, seemed to get worse after. Nani was awful from what I remember from set piece crosses

What constitutes a successful corner? I'm genuinely not sure if its a goal, seems unlikely, or a chance created.

Mata had been our best freekick taker by a country mile for ages. I'd still trust him over anyone else in our squad with a freekick around the box.

Bruno being a starter and having excellent delivery is a huge bonus. Actually being able to get in decent corners that Maguire can attack makes a difference, it's something we've been missing. If it stops Rashford twatting 95% of our freekicks into the crowd that's another bonus.

You say whoosh, but he's been on some because apparently he's done alright in training at them. I'm not convinced considering his somewhat wild shooting. Although he probably should've had one on the right hand side the other day.

Impossible to tell which posts are serious and which aren't these days. Read something this morning about James being our most important player.
I'm consistently a cnut, so expect the worst whenever I post. :D

Think he hit the bar in another game, can't remember which. Was probably from open play though.

Yes!
Brun's deadballs taking are just too good, decisive, and purposeful. It's just "right".

The others are way too inconsistent and "random" even if they have the right techniques for it.

Pure filth. Both Bruno and Martial.

The pass had to have a perfect trajectory, perfect weight, perfect timing to match Martial's run, it had to drop from above in Martial's feet, got to have right angle to goal, you get to fool City only once, the pressure to pull it off in such a high profile match.

Then Martial's run, trust on Bruno to send that ball, ensure first touch contact, no second chance, difficult angle, hit with enough speed to beat the gk.

Class!

The set piece goal aagainst city is not the first time we tried that. I watched some YouTube reel and saw the same routine against Watford.

Good video, talks a bit about our set piece improvements after Bruno arrived.

Got a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more free kick goals in the coming seasons

This is how to take a penalty and in my humble opinion the only way to take a penalty. Annoys me like nothing else that they are still coaches in 2020 who think it's a lottery and don't think it's worth practising them. There are throw-in coaches now for God's sake. That's my annual penalty rant over.

Not just this, but his amazing pass for Rashford's goal was great to watch. And then he laid a brilliant ball on a plate narrowly missed by Marital before that. Even when we are shit he's capable of pulling a moment off that turns the game on it's head.

Totally agree. If the penalty taker does it right the keeper can’t save it. Bit like the ones you lovely Germans took against us in the Euro 96 semi!

Not to mention the free kick that led to our first goal
