Should we consider selling Pogba?

Would be benched in any other top team with these performances immediately. Sadly, he will never be the player people wish he would be. Lazy, lack of motivation and just frustrating to watch .

Very disappointed with him. Is it the effects of Covid? Shocking performance.

It's a long season. Let's see how him and VDB will perform and revise this later. At the moment, no point I believe.

What's his excuse for the rest of his time here?
1. Injuries

2.United form post Fergie has been up and down and so has Pogba form. There's times he's been great and another times very poor.

If the argument is that he's been nothing but shite then clearly we've got very different views on football. Today was only our second PL game after all!

He's basically learning a new position isn't he. Throughout his career he's been a luxury, a collection of raw attributes with no clear focus or purpose.

Now we're giving him a clear role, with a lot of discipline and responsibility. He's not to get it straightaway.

For the record I thought he did OK today.

In recent times we have played better without Pogba. He's been moved all over the pitch to try to get a tune out of him and he has been replaced in what was realistically his best position in our system. Now he's stinking the place out from deeper in midfield.

I once thought he could play that role but we're getting exploited badly down our right because of it. Wan Bissaka looked good defensively when Fred and McTominay played in midfield, which was the last time our midfield actually functioned properly. Now look at him. Not only that but Matic is showing more intelligence than Pogba in that deeper role. He's making the passes that Pogba should be making, whilst Pogba is taking too long on the ball and causing us too many issues. Imagine our £90m midfielder getting shown up by Nemanja Matic, the player most wouldn't have even had at the club anymore if they had their way iver the last 12 months.

This is just the latest experiment that won't work. Ole trying to shoehorn the biggest names into the team, which will cost him his job and will see Pogba's value plummet if it is allowed to continue.

Selling him in the current context is next to impossible unless it is very very cheap. If he extends, his wages will be obscene
I admitted a long time ago the thread title was a poor choice and detracted from the actual point I was making. But the eventual outcome will be the same and people will ask this question as soon as some normality returns to the transfer market.

You know like we've had about 2 weeks preseason where the team have tried to get in shape for the new season?

Well for two weeks of that time, Pogba had COVID, which means he couldn't train.

These last couple of weeks have taught me that there's a great deal of people on here who have never done a days worth of exercise in their life.

I've always liked and defended him. However the club is and will always be the priority so that's why I always hoped, if he were to leave, it would be a for a huge fee. We cannot even have that now

Wasn't our form during the lockdown last season ? Which included a midfield of Pogba, Bruno and Matic. We were the first team to win 4 away games by 3+ goals. Imo that has been our best football since Fergie.

I once thought he could play that role but we're getting exploited badly down our right because of it. Wan Bissaka looked good defensively when Fred and McTominay played in midfield, which was the last time our midfield actually functioned properly. Now look at him. The midfield of McTominay and Fed did look good but that's because it was used against teams like City. Their main function was to make United a better defensive unit with the hopes of catching teams on the break, which is great for the bigger games but it's useless when playing small teams. McTominay and Fed offer no attacking threat.

As for Matic, the guy is a great midfielder he isn't some nobody. I'm not Pogba biggest fan(He clearly hasn't lived up to his price tage)but like almost all of the United team atm it's simply too early in the season to make any judgements.

He's been poor for many months/years, for various reasons.
Sometimes you need to accept when something isn't going to work out.
If he moved to Madrid or a top team, it is quite possible that it may spark him into life, but at MUFC - it ain't gonna happen for him.
For his own career, he should move on.

Nobody wants to "sack" Pogba for a bad 2 weeks.
It's his entire MUFC career - he hasn't been great.
When was the last time he had a good half season? I don't think he has ever had half a good season.
IMO, his best season was his first season with us, after that he went downhill.

The only solution is if we can offer him to Juve for De Ligt plus one of their midfielders, ideally Rabiot. Or sell him to PSG and offer him plus 100m for Mbappe.

Just sell ASAP and replace the strolling fecker with somebody who can be arsed. Grossly overpaid for this. Any wonder we are hesitant throwing even more money at Sancho?

after 4 years, contribution has proved to be a level above Phil Jones. World class my arse. Not even top PL level.

Then why play him? If that's the case what you are saying then wouldn't it be better to get his fitness levels up on the training ground before throwing him into games? So is Ole throwing him under the bus?

Do you prepare for a marathon by running on a treadmill?

He was slightly better today, he'll be fine in a couple of games

In one word, No. what we should consider is locking this thread up at least till mid-October. No need to create toxic threads this early in tge season, specially for a player who has recently been under COVID. Pogba will need time and minutes to get back to his best, but he is key to our team. So be a supporter.

He shouldn't be starting he is not fit. He should only be coming off the bench to build his fitness levels up.

Everything you pointed out in the OP's been pretty unsubtly blasted in our faces for the past few games going back to the tail end of last season. How much would you sell him for?

He's literally an on-pitch symbol/extension of Woodward. The sooner the caf grasps just how much, the better. Posted once before that it is his contract and not Sanchez' that was the worst in club history. That's the contract that destroyed our wage structure, not Sanchez'. (And all of that is without going into detailed discussion about what Pogba's acceptance of that contract says about his mentality.)

He should be sold not because he is a bad player but he is not what United needs now. He is a luxury player for United with this set up. If we go to a diamond and if he plays left of the diamond then he may play a bit better. He has all the attributes to be a top class player but he has not applied in the game. Bruno may not get his act together every game but he tries all. Pogba does not seem to be bothered. Every time he gets the ball and if someone comes close I have no belief that he may not lose it.

Weird. He tried everything he could yesterday, he just didn't look sharp and lethargic.

Can we stop this "Pogba doesn't give a feck" thing? How do you guys even know he does not care? What proof is it?

I dont buy this lazy bit at all. He tries. He just can't cope with the role. He aint a sitting midfielder, he never was.

He lacks the intelligence for that. We wont controll the tempo with him in that role. We've lost the midfield battle in so many games the past year and he is one of the biggest reaons for that.

He could play in Bruno's position, but honestly i think Bruno fits more. If we could get our money back it would be worth it. His performances doesnt match his wages.

He won a WC with France being their key player though. He was worldclass for Juventus winning league titles there too.
But you could argue he was inconsistent for Man Utd (so was majority of our squad), regardless he was still voted Premierleague team of the year for 18-19 season, clearly our best player. For 19-20 he was injured, and for the first 2 match in 20-21, he just recovered from COVID-19.

Ever since he’s come here, he’s had a handful of performances where he has dominated the game and been world class. At this point, I don’t think we will ever see him live up to his hype or transfer fee. Sick of all the excuses now.

if It’s a choice between him or Bruno further forward, I’d take Bruno all day. Even at his worst, he comes up with matching winning moments, no contest.

Id go out on a limb and say juventus would have won serie A without him. He has been underwhelming but also managed poorly here.

The time for selling Pogba was last season. He has a contract till 2021. He will leave on a free at the end of the season. And if we give him another contract to "protect our asset", we will be stuck with him and his frustrating performances for a few more years.

Pogba isn't very adaptable in my opinion. You need the right balance around him or you're going to struggle. Unless we can do that I think we should sell him.

Bruno/Pogba + anyone else we have doesn't seem very balanced. Matic is probably the best to complete that three, but it still isn't ideal. If McT or Fred, or even VDB complete the three it isn't going to work.

We do have an option for another year so effectively he has a contract until 2022

To all those that dismissed what I said without a second thought, are you finally up to speed with what I was seeing? It was laid out bare for you to see today. As obvious as it gets. Pogba will not work in any combination with Bruno.
Have you ever had corona out of interest

Yes, he and many others are obviously not match fit. I remember RvP said in an interview that every season the first month or so is pure torture and you just have to "get through" those games, and that was under normal circumstances with a normal pre season. Considering how fecked up the end of last season was and no preseason this year its no wonder we struggle with fitness. So i would hold my verdict until we play a few more games.

That being said though, based on his history here Pogba HAVE to have a great season here or we might as well get rid.

I do believe that "he was world class at Juve" is less a function of his brilliance, and more a function of the fact that Juve won the league. Juve would have won the league without him too, in my opinion.

I just want to leave some stats here.
Juventus - 4 seasons (2012-2016) - 166 apps (142 starts) - 32 goals, 27 assists
Manutd - 4 seasons (2016-2020) - 165 apps (144 starts) - 32 goals 32 assists

His output at both Juve and Utd seems similar. Fbref doesn't have his Juve stats but if I find them I will do some work to figure out how his passing / play at Juve compares to his passing / play at Manchester United, but I suspect it would be similar.

The thing is though, we got Pogba when he was supposed to be at his peak, and we should be seeing better numbers, not similar to what he was doing at Juve.

He should have had much more assists at Man Utd in his first season. The number of chances missed by Zlatan and co was ridiculious.
He also hit the post/crossbar a weird number of times in his first season.

What? Didn’t we sign him at like age 23 or something? How many midfielders can you think of that peak at that time? Most players in his role peak at around age thirty. Also, how many other deep lying midfielders are judged on goal stats? Bizarre.

There are a lot of fair criticisms you could aim at Pogba but this seems a strange take.
