City concede 5 at home for the first time in 17 years, and we have posters here saying AWB wouldnt play for City
Stupid post and stupid argument. Do you really know what are you talking?

Well, cant get a better post than someone who think Pep would start AWB !

So may be I am overexpecting.

Yeah Pep would rather start a RB who cant tackle and gives away a penalty and a backline that concedes 5 at home for the first time in 17 years. That makes perfect sense

Dude - not sure what are you about. Point was not about one off match regarding both AWB or Walker.
The fecking point is - would Pep start AWB because of his ball playing skills. Answer is NO.

Seriously mate ?

You said he wouldnt start at City. You asked which clubs he would start at, suggesting there arent many. I didnt name City as one of those where he wouldnt start. Because he's better than Walker

If you dont think Pep is looking through the ball boys for someone to play next match instead of City's fullbacks after that performance then you're mad.

In what universe is Wan Bissaka better than Kyle Walker? Seriously?

The bias required to believe that AWB > Walker is just off the charts.

AWB isn't even the best option for US at right back, let alone City or anyone else. His performances recently have been unbelievably bad and continues to get worse every month seemingly, he just can not play at the required level technically, mentally or physically. Always out of position, horrific passing, non existent crossing ability and no effort to get back when he's been caught out.

He is a huge, huge issue for our team and if we don't upgrade on him we're going to keep leaking goals.

Walker saved a few goals today and created chances, Garcia and Mendy were the worst City defenders today. But regardless, it's a coaching issue for City, he could have prime Maldini and Cafu and they'd still be lost in Pep's system.

In every universe, but most importantly in this one.

Walker is fast. AWB is quite fast but is a good tackler. Walker cant do the basics of defending

He was such an asset last season because he can actually defend. Very rare in defenders these days never mind fullbacks.

You did name City where AWB would start and the fact is , he wouldn't. He shits if the ball is in the nearest town and for this reason, he wouldn't start as Pep prefers ball playing defenders.

I am least bothered about City or their players. If they are bad then be it but the crux of the argument is not about who is good or bad. The point is , would Pep start AWB over Walker ?
Doesn't matter if they concede 5 or 10, the answer is they may go for a better option but yet , he wouldnt come anywhere near AWB.

Apparently, we have created a parallel universe where only united fans exist.

There is no way AWB is better than Walker. Think you'll struggle to find many United fans, let alone fans of other clubs, who will agree with you there.

I actually like that we have him. Even if we need a better RB eventually; having Wan Bissaka as a RB in our ranks makes LW's games harder to pull off when we as a team sit in a certain way. Everyone plays with this inverted LW player these days aswell.

The game he played against Sterling vs Man City was one of my favourite individual performances alongside Park Ji Sung vs Pirlo.

I wouldn't swap AWB for Walker. The last thing we need is another defender that struggles to do the basics of defending.

No, I named Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester as teams where he might not start.

Pep's ball playing defenders just played him into the record books for their highest home defeat in 17 years and put the pressure on him for the first time in his City career. If they get beat again next week the sharks will be circling

Then there are a lot of toxic, clueless manchester united fans who dont appreciate the players they have at their club.

Walker has been a weakness since his first few break out seasons at Spurs

Needs a week's work on taking up positioning, especially for crosses from the opposite wing.
When I played full back, in local football, I was encouraged to actually be the deepest defender when the ball was on the opposite wing, therefore keeping yourself between your winger and the goal, and also, if needed, to cover behind the central defenders if the ball is passed through them, a pivot I think it was called. AWB doesn't seem to be aware of where his opponent is, he keeps getting dragged into the middle for some reason.
I'm hoping that yesterday's game was a one off, and his lowpoint, otherwise it's going to be a long season.

You're kidding me, right? Walker isn't the greatest right back, by any means, but I certainly would have him at United over Wan-Bissaka. One can actually dribble, pass and control the ball, for starters. To call fans toxic and clueless for thinking otherwise is the height of delusion. We have been well and truly shafted by Palace and yet again right back is a problem position. I would take Laird over Wan-Bissaka right now if people say he's as good as he is.

You're kidding right? Walker is miles better than AWB. He's one of the best right backs in the world and today's mistake doesn't change that!

I've heard Walker described as only having 'pace' since his Spurs days. If he was that bad Cancelo would have displaced him by now, the same player alot of United fans wanted here when the opportunity was there!

Cancelo is an attacker. He played right midfield at Valencia. He's not a good defender either. He does have more to his game on the ball than Walker

If Cancelo is that great he'll replace Walker after they just let in 5 at home right?

AWB was messing up in the the things he's normally world class at.

It was a bad day at the office. No need to throw him under the bus.

He was having bad days at the office quite often towards the end of last season. On present form I would pick Williams at right back. Won't happen though because he needs to deputise for Shaw at LB.

Sorry but I can not believe someone unironically believes this. Do you have them confused for one another or something? Walker is better than AWB at literally everything.

Been out of sorts for a while now, but I wouldn’t read too much into it simply because you can say that about most of our team. There has to be an underlying issue.

I like him, but he’s not reaaaaally that great a defender. He’s world class 1v1 but very weak positionally. I don’t think he was when he first joined, but it’s something I’ve noticed quite a lot in the past 6 months. It’s absurd how many times his weakness at the back post is exposed, which is compounded further by the fact our RCB is poor in the air as well.

Agreed. Which makes sense considering he was a winger until about 2 years ago. Which is weird since you’d think he’d be a terrible winger, yet he apparently made it to the top level playing as one.

Anyway, it’s concerning that we paid 50m for a right back and essentially have to coach him how to defend, but on the plus side at least this is something that can be coached. I just hope that’s what they’re doing.

Walker the RB who got destroyed by Leicester as they pumped 5 balls in his net is better than AWB the best defensive right fullback in the league? City have now conceded 6 goals in just 2 league matches this season, or 7 conceded in 3 games if you include the FA cup and you think they have better players than 1 of our most important factors in having the least goals conceded in the league from open play last season? Christ almighty.

Not too fussed with it.

We need a better RCB because his game has our RB and LCB having to be involved in areas that are not needed.

Maguire on the right would make Wan Bissaka better just as an example & Lindelof on the left would make Shaw's game crumble all over the place.

Lindelof just tracks back ball watching waiting ages to make a tackle. The guy hardly makes a header when it's against an attacker. If I was Wan Bissaka I wouldn't be playing freely all game as a RB or RWB either - I would be sticking close to Lindelof at times because it's been a tactic that our opponents have come to realise as seen vs Crystal palace when they were attacking consistently on one channel to target Lindelof & TFM.

Correct. Or he needs a proper winger in front of him so that he doesnt have to go all the way down the right himself. Then he'll be in position to get back on counter attacks with a normal workload for a RB

AWB struggles against crosses. He always doesn't communicate with teammates on who he is marking creating confusion. It happened against Sevilla where he let a man go and didn't say a word to Lindelof that he was switching off. Happened countless times today that he got dragged inside and there was no one at the back post to cover their wing back. Ole and his team should have spotted the overload and switched to a 442 to deal with the overloads out wide. I won't put all the blame on AWB as defending a 343 can be difficult when your midfield 3 is losing the midfield to 2 men.

How is AWB the "best defensive right fullback in the league"? He gets caught out of position multiple times every single game. Like by what metrics is he the best right back? The only thing he is good at is slide tackles. And he only has to make them so frequently because he's always out of position!

Maybe he's the best defender 1v1 on the touchline with no support or available runners close. But I mean... seriously?

He's not "out of position", he's been far up the pitch in attack and he's supposed to be covered by the RCB, or one of our 2 DMs. Thats systemic. If we had a right winger he wouldnt be so far forward so he could be back when teams break on us. We dont have one, so he's asked to become one when we have the ball

AWB makes so many slide tackles because he invites players to take him on, not because he's "out of position". If he was out of position he wouldnt be there to tackle them

We'd need a proper RW first I think.

You think he is the best defensive fullback in the league for the same reason you have always thought Chris Smalling was the best centre back in the league, he makes loads of tackles and blocks that look good on whoscored.com. He's doing that because he's reacting late to things and getting caught out of position, not because he's a great defender.

I don't totally blame him. I think we are asking him to attack more and he is struggling with knowing when to get forward and when to stay back, and that's partly on the coaches. Plus his poor ability on the ball means he loses it a lot and has to rush back. When he was allowed to sit back early last season he was great defensively.

Good coaching can fix our defence. Who is supposedly doing the coaching on defence, anyone know.
