He led from the front, let down by his teammates at times. Very good captainship. I like him.
It was hasty to make him captain and he hasn't done anything to actually prove me wrong.
He was supposed to bring leadership and organisation to our backline and none have that has happened.
He is another addition to our long line of disappointing transfers which would hold us back.

I don’t care what he did on the pitch, like I said before, and it’s not relevant whether we could’ve kicked off one second faster or not. It’s about the signals it sends to everyone. He could’ve scored 20 goals and I would’ve said that I don’t expect the captain to collapse on the ground in the face of an equalizer. It’s great that he helped us score goals but it’s awful to collapse on the floor like that as a Manchester United player, let alone as captain.
Top level posting.

We are only 3 games into the new season and already some have completely lost it.

Its how you look at it. If you want positive perspective then there is plenty. I see that he cares so much that the goal devastated him. I want that in every united player. I am sure some do but Harry showed his emotions. I have no issue with that. As a fan I felt connected because I was devastated too. The difference is I went numb but Harry the captain rose himself in next minute, won the team penalty and was leading the protest forcing ref to VAR it. Everything I look at it positively. I don't see an iota of negative manner in Harry's behavior as captain. But that's me.

He went down like a sack of potatoes crying after conceding an equaliser but then he won a header from a corner and appealed strongly for a penalty which makes him a brilliant captain.

He's shown great leadership previously during his time here but today wasn't an example of that, I'm afraid.
It shows he cares so much about it and it means a lot to him. I don't know how you don't understand his reaction at all.

This, if you think a hard fought victory is slipping in injury time its completely fine to show disappointment. There is plenty of worse reactions to a situations like that, like he could run over and bite the ref in the arse like Suarez would have done

On what planet did he defend well? Aaron Connolly had him on toast at times. He is so slow for a pro footballer.
I know hes fifa card is weak, but he offers a lot more in football. Its

I know he has a low pace on he's fifa card. He is still a good player in real life. If you can't see what he offers to our team, then you are missing out on a good player. =)

Edit. Half drunk reply. My bad.
Edit again. It's just getting worse, point is: Maguire is good!

He is a monster at winning headers in the opposition box. Still shaky defensively but I think he'll improve in the coming weeks.

They played bad yesterday and the defence was under constant pressure as the back line and the rest of the team did not work together. On top of that AWB had maybe his worst match at United. Maguire was fighting hard and was more or less about to make it when they concede this stupid goal at injury time, at the exact position that had been the problem 90% of the game. I can see how emotions rushed through him. Seconds later his raised up and won us the game.

Yes a captain should show good example. But I prefer a captain who cares instead of a robot.

How about one that organises the defence and makes sure AWB is in position or gets someone to cover after the 3rd warning?

Yeah sure, it's on Maguire. How every player moves on the pitch should be controlled by Maguire because he "Organizes" defense.

What if Maguire instructed AWB but somehow he still ignores? Maybe Maguire should give him time out.

Yes, Maguire is captain and should be shouting at his defenders to get into and keep their position. We got to 3 cup semi finals last season and lost them all because of bad defending. Whoever is coaching our defenders need to open their eyes.

No its on the leader of the defence to spot that and communicate. He clearly didnt instruct him, but if AWB ignores then thats not on Maguire. I would expect him to chew him out not hang his head.

I think the defence clearly lacks coaching and also leadership

That poster won't even think that, all he can think of is it must be Maguire's fault. The guy is obsessed on blaming and discredit Maguire.

Yeah it's hilarious to see somehow Maguire getting all the blame. At least more creative than our midfielders.

Maguire, Lindelof and DDG, all three have some responsibility to organise the defence imo. But this is a guy lacking the basics. AWB didn’t run home in time leaving the CBs totally exposed, and when he was back in a more organised defence, he was totally out of position. You can only organise if a player has the basics.

Hes not getting all the blame. Someone is pointing out his lack of on field leadership of the defence in his performance thread and somehow that means hes getting all the blame hahahaha. Have you seen the AWB or Bruno thread?

So when we had second best defensive record, did you praise Maguire for his leadership?

He didnt show much leadership. I did praise him when he played well. But Ive never been impressed with his or DDG organisation of the defence

Our first goal was an own goal wasn't it? Also he clearly fouled the Brighton defender like it was a wrestling match so I don't know how VAR didn't intervene with that.

So is the consensus shifting on Harry yet? He's been lucky everyone is blaming Lindelöf for all our defensive woes and somehow escapes all blame, yet Shaw & Lindelöf are constantly covering for him due to his extraordinary lack of pace and poor positioning. I'm not sure we'll ever be solid defensively in a high line with Maguire starting. His lack of mobility and pace simply aren't counteracted by positioning, he's always late to clear crosses which forces the RCB and RB to come centrally and cover, which results in every one playing worse.

Not entirely his fault, but his attributes and weaknesses are clear for everyone to see.

His simply a okay/good CB. Nothing more and nothing less. Problem is we paid 80m for that. The current standard of CB in world football is at its lowest unfortunately. So it’s not like there’s many great alternatives. It seems every top club has a suspect CB in their back line.

I'm not a fan of him, and I don't think I'll ever be.
His reaction after Brighton scored just screamed that he's not prepared to lead a club of this stature.

Also, one of the shots that hit the post qaa because he shied away from the shot, which I find infuriating.

Adding this onto his already clear frailties and weaknesses, it doesn't seem to be a good fit.

This is reaching some serious levels of bs. Your rant would be understandable if it was 85th or 87th min. When we conceded it looked over. It was end of added time.

I fell down to my knees as well. It broke me a little. But the moment it kicked on again I was rampageing inside my apartment like a maniac.

It wasn't a good performance but there will be more of those till we reach required game fitness so we have to get those points in every possible way no matter how dreadful we look on the pitch.

Mate, it’s hardly a rant. I just said that I don’t expect a United captain to fall to his knees like that in the face of an equalizer against Brighton, and everyone’s jumping on me as if I’d said that hitler was a good guy.

Surely I’m entitled to my own standards and opinions?

What you did in your home is hardly relevant as you’re not the captain of Manchester United. I grew up in the Fergie era like many others here and base my expectations on the players I grew up with. My only point is that people are saying that Maguire is such a leader of men but in the face of adversity he slumped to his knees like everyone else. I would never expect a Rio, Neville or a Vidic to act like that.

It’s all I said. Let’s just agree to disagree. I’m not trying to force my opinion on anyone and if people disagree, let’s just accept that we have different expectations of our club’s captain when facing adversity. I understand that I’m in the minority here and winning a header from a corner and strongly appealing for a penalty is enough to be a proper United captain for many people in here, and that’s fine but something I disagree with.

I expect the United captain to lead his men on until the last second and not until 30 seconds before the game is over.

Fair enough. I also grew up in SAF era (made in 85) but I am very much awere that those are past times and I often catch myself overly romanticising over my memories. There were dire games in SAF era aswell. Difference is we are not in position of power anymore and we have more than a few steps to make to retain it.

But I still have the same passion and belief and that's way I can understand why he fell down. I can also understand why he made a fuss about the handball. I dont care if it s BHA or Bayern. Maguire is getting sloughterd (as is the rest of the team) and I am quite sickened by it. In fact I think I am certainly mentally ill for voluntarily participating in forum activities.

This. He is an average to good CB. Not an 80M CB which should be getting you a world class one.

With regards to the first part, I probably haven't lowered my expectations to the degree that the people who are aggressively disagreeing with me have. I still expect our captain to act like the captains of old if our ambition is to get back to the top. Of course, it's fine for a captain to be mentally shot by a 95th minute equaliser, but then you're going to end up in and around 4th spot for eternity. And we paid £80m for that.

I'm not saying anything against the appealing for a handball, other than that it's a thing that for me isn't enough to make someone a "great captain", like some people have suggested.

Probably a performance where you defend well as an individual and have a hand in 2 of the 3 goals we scored?

That's defending well? Standards have dropped so far.
No people just have a ridiculous agenda against him because of his price, apparently he’s fecking shite but our defence improved dramatically with him in the team, makes sense

Wan Bisaka is a much better defender and gets way more criticism despite him improving his position tenfold whereas Smalling was better than Maguire
