As mentioned, Evra did say we often believe the wrong people.
Exactly, and that has left me worried about our ability to build relations with clubs and get good deals down the line. I was worried when we used agents in the past but hoped that this would be temporary. The fact that we've made this a key part of our approach is going to harm us more than benefit us. This would typically be an approach that worse teams would take (like Arsenal or Wolves).

At this point I am rather, we spend on Telles and Upamecano and get loan deals of Dembele and Cavani.
Postpone Sancho for next year.

After the Supercup is before the Bundesliga: BVB will receive SC Freiburg on Saturday - and are worried about Jadon Sancho and Roman Bürki.

Both players had missed the Supercup due to a respiratory infection and are also questionable for the Bundesliga home game on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) against SC Freiburg. While Bürki was not able to train again, Sancho completed a relaxed session in Brackel on Thursday afternoon, according to information from the Ruhr Nachrichten.

I wouldn't listen to anything Sky Sports says to be fair.

They've got Dharmesh Sheth saying that Dortmund will reject any offer United send in, regardless of how much it is, because we missed their August 10th deadline and they're firm on that, yet you also have Gary Cotterill saying that Dortmund are willing to engage in a sale should United come back in, or something to that effect. So, two Sky reporters saying two totally different things. Whats it gonna be Sky? You covering all angles eh, or just trying to confuse the hell out of your viewers?

Utter tripe, the lot of them!
And also James Cooper from sky today saying there is “clearly” a willingness from Dortmund to do a deal.

I'd say that Wolves are actually in a much better position than us. Jorge Mendes actually has skin in the game there. There's a benefit to him to continue helping Wolves. He won't shaft Wolves if he can avoid it cos it'd be like bricking his own shop window.

The agents we seem to rely on seem to have no stake in United on any level, including friendship with Woodward or Judge. So for them to lead us up the garden path, or screw us out of money, is nothing. It's dangerous to lean so heavily on people with no ties to or care for the club.

Again, it'd be great to be proven wrong.

Exactly, so theres 3 sky reporters, 2 saying similar things, the other one saying theres no chance Dortmund will accept.
They're so far down the reliability scale now it's unreal. I seriously remember when SSN was a great source of info that could be believed. Now they're all about the viewers/clicks

They run a betting company. Skybet!
Wouldn't surprise me if thats why they're saying different things at every opportunity then. Keep that almighty dollar rolling in! It's a joke really

Are we supposed to loan Cavani from Free Agency FC? I think the time for Upamecano has passed. Would have been a brilliant signing, but no way Leipzig sell him to play against him in the CL. We are surely screaming for a CB, RW, and additional options at LB, just don't see it all happening. At this point, Sancho and Telles signing, with a loan for Jovic would be tits.

Hypothetical scenario: If we get Demeble for a year loan with option to buy for 50m, and he made a Bruno like impact to us, should we go on and buy Demeble instead of Sancho, who would be valued at 120m next summer again anyway?
If he made that kind of impact he would be a nailed starter so no point in bringing Sancho as he wont accept a squad role.

I'm always reluctant to buy into these kind of tweets.

I mean, how is this guy an authority on Sancho's feelings?
Sancho whisperer?
It's actually a bit weird if Sancho is "unhappy" as other reports have been that he has been essentially informed by United/Ole that we will get this done and the bid is coming up shortly. He should be relaxed. Who knows, it could all be a show that BVB needs to justify the sale. Lots of smoke and mirrors on these big deals, especially with BVB.

As i've said, Dembele would be a great signing if it wasn't for his abysmal injury record and his supposed bad attitude.
Do we really want someone like that at United? I'm not sure it's worth the risk to be fair, but at the end of the day, he'd be better than nothing

The more they talk, the more people bet.

Also by now everyone must have realised that journos know that it s more productive for them if they report an invented story than if they report something more real but less sensational.

It s all about the money at the end of the day.....truth always comes second

Maybe he's unhappy that Dortmund have rejected a bid, which in his eyes, is perfectly acceptable and falls within the "acceptable offer" that Dortmund had apparently told him they'd accept as he wanted to join us?
Again this is all media reported stuff, so we don't know, but it'd make sense, and the whole training alone thing would also make sense, as i'm pretty sure he wouldn't be training if he was ill with a respiritory illness

The consequence of working with Mendes is that Wolves might move on players even if they want to keep them. Still, you are right; Mendes will be more amicable with Wolves.

On our end, the way we deal with other parties seems to be consistent across all fronts. Whether it's a potential new sponsorship or a transfer, we don't look to build relations with the other party. We just come in and show off that we're a huge club, and we somehow hope that this would be enough to get us what we want. This has worked with sponsorships, but I'm not sure if this will work for transfers.

Club is lucky there is no fans anymore. This window deserves a serious amount of hate. 1 step forward two steps back.

Sancho, Telles and Jovic, I admire the optimism but realistically we'll end up with Telles and go for Sancho next summer.

I don't buy all this Sancho 'pushing for a move' especially after agreeing such a long extension on his contract just 6 months ago. Dortmund are in the driving seat with the negotiations and now asking for more or all of the €120m upfront.

I by no means believe it will happen, just think it is best case scenario at this time.

The one thing that gives a sliver of hope is that the medical community are increasingly telling us that a return to "normal" is years and not months away and if that holds true until next summer the impact on finances will ean that nobody will be able to afford a fraction of the 120m fee. If BVB are paying attention they may realise that this is the only window in which they can really cash in and they are a club whose financial model is built on selling the players they develop as stated in their own financial results.

We all love United
Disappointing day this to be fair, expected something.
Keep the faith mate, you of all people! But yeah if nothing is happening between tonight and tomorrow night, it’s probably really over. I don’t know what alternatives we have left other than the Welsh bloke from Bournemouth

Yeah that is the absolute best we can hope for right now, like you say we have definitely missed the boat on Dayot until next summer

You're still buying this nonsense!

The only clear thing in this shitshow is that Dortmund's valuation of Sancho is final. They're not selling for anything less than €120M.

I doubt United will cough up that much in this economic climate. If we pay €120M, we will look like complete fools for wasting two months for our ineptitude. If we do not pay that sum, Dortmund will not sell, and we will look like bigger fools for not having a clear backup plan. And we will be the biggest fools if United offer to pay €120M on deadline day, and yet Dortmund refuse to sell because their earlier announced 'transfer-deadline' already passed.
They want €120M upfront.

I've still got faith, but we better going into the weekend after a day of proper madness tomorrow. Or there will be trouble.
During Berbatov, Levy was still publicly saying 'over my dead body' until penultimate day, before selling on final day.

And then, all the Spurs players started costing much more for United specifically...
