Martial definitely deserved his red card. The issue is how Lamela got away with his elbow, inconsistency.

One of the weirdest decisions Ive seen. Martial deserves the red, but Lamela does the exact same thing. It's even worse, because he does it first. That's 2 reds, 2 yellows, 2 somethings, but it should he the same.

Red card was fine, leaving aside the fact that Lamela is a prick. Regularly given as a red card even with only slight contact, which is why you don't do it.

Had Martial dropped like Lamela did though then he would have been in trouble instead. There was as much contact from Lamela as Martial.

Impressive to be fair to manage to be inconsistent in the space of three seconds.-

This is something of a blind spot of the current guidelines and one that needs fixing asap

Has to tell the ref to have another look here, doesn't matter that it's not technically a clear and obvious error. You have to either send both off, or neither

No one can explain how Lamela remains on the pitch if Martial gets a red. It's an absurd injustice, but no one will care because it's against United. If that had gone the other way, everyone would be up in arms.

People still think VAR(meaning technology) is the problem?

Id like somebody to explain that decision to me. Lamela hits Martial with elbow and then Martial slaps lamela on upper chest and gets a red card. Wow.
Amazing isn’t it. How var can not pick up the first instance is beyond me

The sport is broken. I'm trialing giving up. I've not watched more than 5 minutes of football this season due to the circus it's become. Its not the sport it was for me.

Martial shouldn’t have reacted, and they always give a red for that, regardless of Lamela being a complete cnut. On the other hand Lamela definitely reacted to something Martial did by elbowing him, so I don’t know why it would be any different.

The rules are just stupid. Martial taps his face it’s a red, if he’d shoved him over (more violent) it would be a yellow.

The problem is still with the referees and their idiotic friends behind the VAR.

How and why was Lamela not sent off as well?! Crazy decision.

This red card gets overturned 100%.
Sickening decision, Lamela should be embarrassed.

Feck VAR.

How could any referee have multiple replays of that and think, yep violent conduct.

And then to also ignore Lamela's arm to the face which was objectively worse.

The only difference I could possibly see it that Martial's was simple retaliation, so could be viewed worse.

Which, fine, but it's not like Lamela accidentally hit him while going for the ball. And Lamela's had more force, which I would have thought is also a factor in decisions.

What Martial did is regularly given as a red card.

The problem is Lamela not being punished for doing what he did first.

Martial clearly does a punch, that's always a red, no matter the intensity.
Lamela's movement looks more natural, like he's trying to shield from the opponent. I can see why fans are frustrated with it, but at the very least it wasn't a clear mistake.

They ignored Bailly’s stamp on Kane. We should be playing 9v10.

If OGS doesn't take a suspension for that red-card decision then I'm joining the Ole-out gang. VAR is a fecking joke, always been.

Zero difference too between Sanchez on Martial and Pogba on Connolly. Something needs to be sorted.

How is it not? They got to watch it again and decide, yeah that’s the right decision. It’s fecking shit.
The technology is not the problem, the stupid people looking at it is. VAR would work if the R part wasn't fecking useless.

But it is useless, so why should we put up with all the downsides of var?

We complain about consistency over a couple of games or separate incidents in same game. Never have I seen inconsistency in the same incident where players essentially do an impression of one another

The technology is a TV screen. It can’t work without somebody watching it. I don’t know how many times I’ve said it but VAR is not a sentient being. It’s a monitor.

Seriously, there has to be some system where a team can force the on-field ref to go to the fecking screen.

As long as these idiots are protecting each other and picking and choosing what to look at then massive injustices will keep happening.

What makes it worse is Lamela gets a yellow 5 minutes later. He should be off the pitch as well. We have been crap but that sending off will now cause a huge score line.
