Amad Diallo signs for Manchester United

He's played a total of 24 minutes of senior football in the league in his entire career. 24 minutes.

The fact his arrival at United is going to be delayed by 3 months is irrelevant. He isn't going to get onto the pitch for us any time soon. The kid has played fewer minutes than Chong and Angel had at the same age.

Diallo needs games more than he needs to join up with our squad. Keeping him at Atalanta is probably the best thing for his development right now.
But he doesn’t play much for them and they have a thing about not using wingers in their system.

great to see the 41m being used by fans everywhere on Twitter just to add more drama. If we end up paying the full 41m, he'll have done extraordinary well for us, but don't let that spoil your tantrums.

£40m for a totally unproven kid who was also getting chased by notorious youth flippers Lyon.

I know that's not proof of anything. But it points to the fact we've bought a player with top class potential.

Everyone who knows anything about him in Italy appears to be saying the same thing. Hopefully we can all look back on this in 5 years' time as a big moment in our transformation.

Coming in January, for which I'm hugely excited. But for now, so we got no RW signed for now?
Pellistri...
In reality, will be 2 of Martial, Rashford or Greenwood on the wings when Cavani starts, and then the 3 of them starting when Cavani is on the bench. Certain games James will still start, but it's not the worst depth. Rashford can play on the right, though it's playing out of position. Or a combination with that and going 3-5-2, but again no right sided player in that set up.

This and it does look like we have been watching him for some time and decided to get him and that Uruguayan kid when it finally dawned on us that Sancho wasn't happening. Between the two of them and Greenwood surely one will come good and will soften the blow of missing out on Sancho.

These are the types of transfers that excite me. Really hope he's a starter and doing great for us in a year or two.

He looks an exciting player. Pace and dribbling skills paired with a left foot is something I haven't seen at United since Giggs...

Hope it works out for him and the scouts have done their ground work and not just made a judgement off a great YouTube compilation (like I have!).

Exactly. If United paid £40m for him, that means Lyon were ready to pay a similar amount. This is for a kid with only 24 minutes of senior league football to his name.

When a Ligue 1 club is willing to pay that kind of money for that kind of unproven talent, it can only be a positive sign. Fingers crossed.

Hang on, so we have been tracking this guy since 2016 so when he was 14? And we chose now to sign him for €20mil+€20mil in add-ons?

Why didn't we just buy him for £1mil or something a couple of years ago?

What has he shown in his 24 minutes of serie a football to make us now think 'wow we needed to snap him up!'

Is it me or does none of this make sense? It seems to me the club are spinning it like some sort of coup but just looks like bad planning IMHO

I don't get it, the guy has played 24 total minutes for the first team yet we are loaning him back? :nervous:

I cannot find it now, but him and his brother were under investigation whether they legally entered Italy. After potentially lying about who their father was, that was back in July no idea if that is still on going.

Well, we're tracking hundreds of players at any one time.

Clearly, we felt that Diallo rose above the rest and continued to show top level potential even when playing briefly against men (which is where a lot of erstwhile prodigies often falter). Rather than risk losing out, United bit the bullet and paid a massive price for a teenager.

Fergie did the same thing with Rooney. We'd been interested for ages, but Newcastle's bid forced our hand.

Slightly different as Rooney was a first team regular for Everton and had played at a World Cup.

It's more akin to Ronaldo if anything... Not that I want to start Ronaldo comparisons or anything... Just that I'm sure we can expect a similar career trajectory...

That's exactly what they are doing. Yeah I'm sure they've been loosely following him amongst many many other young players. I'm sure other clubs were doing the same too. Who knows, and here's me trying to be optimistic, he may even be high up a list of young players that we think have high potential.
The dead giveaway that this is a blind panic buy (same with Pellistri) is the fact it came in the final hours on deadline day.

The social media team will be instructed to go crazy about these signings, but they all stink of being 3rd/4th/5th choice signings, most importantly (to the owners) all of limited financial risk.

He is very expensive for someone who is totally unproven.
But if he is good, then I am happy with it.

This can be a great signing while at the same time it can also be true that the club planning has been a shambles this window. Both true.

Why didn’t we illegally sign him for £1m a few years ago? Well probably because it would have been illegal.

Following the laws seems like good planning to me personally.

Everything's great, only thing that doesn't make sense is the fact that we waited for deadline to sign this lad. Something simply doesn't add up there, we could've bought him earlier if we really wanted to buy him all along.

I'd imagine the majority, if not all of those bonuses are probably reliant on him making an significant impact for our first team... So in that sense I don't think it's fair to say this is a 40m deal (yet)

Labour laws with underage players etc.

But it doesn’t fit the caf narrative so pitchforks out everyone!

So he has played 24 mins of football over 3 sub appearances for Atalanta's first team in Serie A, scoring one goal. This one

Gonna predict that in 2 seasons Greenwood is playing as a striker, with Diallo making his appearances from the right wing

Guess we're all Atalanta secondary fans till January. He does look a special talent. Seeing as Sancho may never play for us after this farcical cock up, I really hope he turns out good enough to make up for it.

Those saying he will continue to play for Atalanta are in for a shock.

Atalanta doesn't play with wingers, firstly, and secondly, if they DID, why would they bleed a youngster in that's going to be leaving them anyway? It's not like he's first team ready for them. He'll be a sub for them - at best.

I have to say I’m quite excited about this signing. After Ronaldo the signing of a young winger always excites me. Shame that we have to wait until January to get him in, but you never know. He might end up being a hit and then we end up with no need for you-know-who.

Those that watched Atalanta last season are already fans.

Under a tree.
Have we just signed him in principle? Without agreeing terms or having medical yet because we couldn't get a work permit?

So if a work permit were to be rushed through in the next few days he still can't join until January?

Also the fact that our scouts don't just sit around watching tv to find players
These kinds of transfers are very well researched with local scouts in every major league. Not just watching Serie A matches but tracking players and working their network for referrals.

Excited for him. Hope he turns out to be a better player than Sancho. Him and Telles are the only two deadline day signings that I have high expectations.

I know he is not the RW a lot of fans are hoping for but I am happy we signed him. Great prospect. One for the future.
