How long are we willing to take Pogba's insolance?

Pogba is disgrace. Starting the new season at 40% effort. There was a wonderful team spirit when he was out last season, when we went on a winning run before Covid kicked in. Then Pogba wanted to hop on the bandwagon of that success and played well for a few games and insisting he wants to be a part of it all. Before quickly returning to his sulking and half arsed performances again.

Again, you and everyone else in here completely avoid the whole context of his answer, just being a knee jerk and take the "It's a dream" comments more seriously.

Oh there was a time when he did deliver, albeit he had many setbacks like injuries and Mourinho drama, he did perform before that.
Excuses coming in fast.

That's just the agenda you all wanted to put on here.

If you take the "United is my club, I love it here" comments more seriously, then we have a fair answer.
"You all wanted" Are you not a United fan?

He could have said what he said about United and dodged the Madrid question completely. If United was his club that is - but it isn't.

He's offered exactly the same deal from United and Madrid, both in champions league same wage etc.

Which one would he choose?

United is his club remember.

We've got to a point where even if we do sell Pogba we won't get anywhere near as much as he's worth.

This time next year he'll be 28 with a year left on his contract. Throw the effects of covid on the transfer market into the mix and nobody will come close to paying a decent transfer fee.

Saf s judgement on him was spot on I suppose. Probably his attitude did push saf to make that decision to sell him. He is world class on his day no doubt about that but not seen that world class game for United except may be that city game. Sell him and buy the player who can give all for team like aoura. Superb player can give United the base in midfield.

I want him gone and it’s got nothing to do with that interview, he’s been mediocre to rubbish since we signed him, bored of waiting for him to live up to the hype, sell and buy someone else

Pogba is a total disgrace. There was a wonderful team spirit when he was out pretending to be injured last season, when we went on a winning run before Covid kicked in. Then Pogba wanted to hop on the bandwagon of that success and played well for a few games and insisting he wants to be a part of it all. Before quickly returning to his 'I'm too big for this club, they are not paying me enough to care' attitude and it's almost like he's trying to force the club to sell him again.
you know it is not true so why are you saying it? is it this Donald Trump effect- saying lies over&over&over hoping people start believing it?

Haha I was in a grumpy mood writing that. I knew there might be a backlash. He will turn in world class performances no doubt for us soon again, but if you were to rate his attitude from 0 to 10 since arriving back here 4 years ago, he'd get a 0.

Ha ha, the dumb reactions to Pogba's comments. People ignoring the second half of what he said just because it gives them an outlet for their anti-Pogba bias.

So what if he wants to go to Real Madrid. If he goes, he goes. The same fans that have been slagging him off for years are suddenly pissed because he has mentioned Real Madrid?

Sports fans are hilarious. If a player is good they will perform mental gymnastics to excuse bad behaviour or to show why when the inferior player did the same thing, it was a far worse action. The same mental gymnastics in reverse takes place when a bad player does something innocuous (or something that a superior player has previous done).

It's pathetic. Be consistent. If you accepted a behaviour Ronaldo or peak Rooney did at United, accept it in exactly the same way when Pogba or Lingard do it. Your problem isn't with what has or has not been said. It is with their performance, end of. And that is fine, but to use criticism of minor stuff as a vehicle to beat them with is the mark of a fool.

Couldn't agree more. Bash him for his performance on the pitch because that's warranted, but this "insolence" BS and every other hyperbole and overreaction in here is just plain childish. Yes we're not in a very good place right now as a club but would any of you honestly be more ok with what he said if we were the current PL champions and top of the league? No you would react exactly the same because the Spurs game or the clubs current situation has feck all to do with this, you've just found a new thing to bash your favorite scapegoat with by ignoring most of what he said and blowing the rest way out of proportion.

I hope Pogba doesn't have a silly haircut for our next game because this thread will break the internet if he does.

He also said this,

"I am in Manchester and I love my club. I am playing in Manchester, I'm having fun and I want to do everything to put the club where it deserves.

"I will give everything to the max, like my team-mates."

Funny how this doesn't get mentioned, I'm not Pogba's biggest fan, but give the man a fecking break.
Well Memphis Depay also just said that despite his disappointment in the Barca deal falling through, he would now focus on Lyon. Every player comes out with this sort of thing. Pogba could have just said the above without mentioning Madrid at all, but he knew exactly what he was doing.

"No-one has told me anything," he said at a press conference with the France national team on Thursday. "I have not spoken to [United executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward. We haven't spoken about a new deal.

"At the moment, I am in Manchester and I am concentrating about getting back to my best form.

"I think there will be a moment when the club will come and talk to me and maybe offer me something, or not."

Asked about the prospect of a move to Madrid, with whom he has been linked on a number of occasions, he replied: "All football players would love to play for Real Madrid. It is a dream for me, why not one day?

"I am in Manchester and I love my club. I am playing in Manchester, I'm having fun and I want to do everything to put the club where it deserves.

"I will give everything to the max, like my team-mates.
"

Imagine literally saying in a interview that he loves his club, he's commited to giving it all for the club, he's having fun and his teammates shares that mentality. And STILL have everything taken out of context and hated on. The ONLY reason Paul get's so much shit from everyone is because he's been inconsistent on the pitch. If he'd been a bonafide superstar day in and out you'd all be fine with this.

Or that's what I assume, since I recall what happened the last time our star player spoke about playing for Real Madrid:

"Personal, it's something I want, something I dream about," he said before quoting the advice of Portugal's Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"(It is) a dream, a step forward... For me it's a very good opportunity. As Scolari says, this only happens once."

He added that leaving Manchester United would be difficult "but I think it could be good for both (of us)"."

Everyone was clamoring for the player to stay, our then manager even flew to visit him in his home to convince him to stay another year.

Who is the player I'm talking about?

These comments were WAY WAY worse than what Paul says, yet he's universally seen as a beloved legend because he was a great player for the club.

So the conclusion seems to be that you're not salty because of the comment, you're salty because he's not delivering on the pitch. Just make a thread about that instead of comments taken out of context.
Well maybe if he showed a bit of self-awareness given how dodgy he's been on the pitch, people wouldn't get so upset. I actually did find Ronaldo's antics during his last year to be quite annoying (never understand why Rooney received so much more flak,) but with very few exceptions, Ronaldo delivered every time he was on the pitch, and rarely, if ever, looked to be going through the motions, which is often the case with Pogba.

Watch the UCL semifinals against AC Milan and Argentina in WC2006. Get back to me later.
Ok maybe he did but if he played in both legs of the semi final. That's two matches, hardly shambolic. He was mint for us and player of the year one season.

not sure what he adds to the team really. I dont think he should be an automatic starter. He has been sloppy in midfield recently when building play. Keeps the ball more than he should. Maybe Ole should start giving van de beek a chance instead of pogba

Just came across this... has the media succeeded in stitching us up again and making our own turn against our players and cause further negativity?

Don't blame Pogba for this one: How Man Utd and their No6 were stitched up
by Chris Beattie

COMMENT: Another international week. And yet again, another week of stories revolving around Paul Pogba talking up Real Madrid. Only this time. This week. Manchester United's No6 was well and truly stitched up...

Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer upset? Ed Woodward exasperated? No. Why? Because this time, Pogba was turned over. He was turned over by the headline writers. The scribes. And even his own French Football Federation (FFF). Yes, in his media conference this week he did respond to questions about Real Madrid. But in that response there was also an awful lot more about United and his ambitions for the club.

We've been critical of the United midfielder in this column. And regularly. But this time, for this saga, Paul Pogba is no villain.

Indeed, another approach. Another headline. And you could legitimately describe this past media conference as Pogba making a plea to vice-chairman Woodward to put a new contract in front of him. Instead of headlines screaming about the Frenchman again pushing for a Madrid move, they could be written as Pogba signaling to his manager, Solskjaer, that he's eager to take on a fresh leadership role.

Real Madrid was mentioned, sure. But that was in response to a direct question. And the answer was brief. Where he did expand was on his contract and his commitment to Solskjaer's project.

With the FFF removing all barriers, those in front of Pogba were able to ask him about Real's marathon pursuit. In France it hasn't been covered as extensively as in England and Spain - and there's a particular curiosity due to the personalities and local connection involved. Pogba's ambitions regarding Madrid are no secret. And Zinedine Zidane's admiration and his wish to work with his countryman at Real is also a matter publicly confirmed. Of course with the shackles off (were United's communication team across this at all?), local reporters were going to push the player about the whole drama...

"What can I say about it?" Pogba shrugged when asked, "Yes, all footballers would love to play for Real Madrid. It might be a dream.

"It is a dream for me, why not one day?"

And that was it. There was the headline. The story. The betrayal. Pogba had sold out United again.

But then, he continued talking - unprompted. There was no break for the reporter to follow up with another question. Pogba kept going.

"But I play for Manchester United and I love my club. I perform for Manchester United, I have fun and I want to do everything to take the club back to where it deserves to be."

So instead of fallout from this presser being Pogba touting himself to Zizou and Madrid, it could so easily have centred on how happy he is being part of this United dressing room and his determination to lead the club back to the summit.

And it didn't end there. Indeed for this column, what was said next was the real bombshell from this briefing.

"I have not spoken with Ed Woodward," he declared. "We have not talked about a renewal. For now, I am in Manchester and I mainly think about getting back to the best of my form.

"I think there will be a moment when the club will come and talk to me and maybe offer me something, or not. So far, nothing has happened. I can't tell you something that I don't know."

So hang on. All that speculation about Pogba suspending new contract talks. All those reports about he and his agent, Mino Raiola, delaying things as they pushed the likes of Real and Juventus to firm up their interest. It's all wrong? It's not actually the player's camp which are stalling, but the club? Woodward? And all with Pogba now well inside the final year of his current deal.

That's the story. That's the headline. Especially after the summer market United fans just endured. Management are again slow-walking things. Okay, the club do boast an option to automatically renew Pogba's deal unilaterally. But that's no way to treat one of your senior players. Indeed, the way Pogba spoke, it sounds like he doesn't even know if the board want him around long-term.

Yet instead, it was the response to a direct question about Real Madrid that has dominated United reporting ever since.

Now this column is all for open communication. The more the better. But Pogba - and even United - were well and truly stitched up by the FFF for this one. As media, we love it. To be able to ask one of the biggest names in the industry whatever you like - and for him to be so open - it's what you'd like every presser to be. But can you imagine the FA allowing reporters to ask Dominic Calvert-Lewis about the latest in the Catalan press regarding Barcelona's plans of contacting Everton for him? Of course not. And what's worse, we had FFF branded - and monetised - clips of Pogba discussing Real distributed to all their video partners to play continuously across the 'net. The FFF not only made problems for United, they made money off it to boot!

Pogba has hardly pulled up any trees since his return from those long-term ankle complaints. And claims of a new deal and pay-rise simply couldn't be based on current form or performances. Indeed for this column, he's yet to put a recent 90 minutes together to warrant United going out of their way to keep hold of him.

But at last week's presser, Paul Pogba did nothing wrong. He actually offered United fans more hope of his commitment to them, than any type of plans of moving elsewhere. The backlash was undeserved.

For this one, Paul Pogba was well and truly stitched up.

Just because he followed the quote with talking well about us won't go and negate the fact he clearly said he dreams to play for Real Madrid. Weird logic. I saw the video of quotes and all I thought about is he fecked up and wanted to balance the quote.

People don't need the media to turn the fans on the player because he himself isn't helping himself at all.

Agree with you. All he needs to say was that I am a Manchester United player right now. That is it. He does not need to say it his dream to play Madrid and all the BS.

It's pretty obvious his heart is not at United.

His contract expires end of June next year and there is the option of extending for one more year so why should he be offered an new contract just now? Especially when he has been playing terrible football?

Why couldn’t he just say it’s not right to talk about other clubs when he plays for Manchester United?
Standard puff answers all managers give when asked about transfer prospects?
Do you think Pogba was naive or proactive on offering his answer?

Sure, Mr. Raiola.
So you’re saying he’s been offered a contract, is refusing to sign it and is saying he hasn’t been offered one ? If this is true we will find out when the next teamsheet comes out.

Travesty of a signing. In terms of cost and expectation one of our worst ever. Bar a handful of games he has been nothing but a mediocre drama queen stinking up the club for years. His game hasn't developed since he made his debut under Ferguson. Always the extra touch, almost invites pressure so he can try wriggle out of it. Off the top of my head he's been directly responsible for 3 goals conceded in the last 10 games or so which is far too many for a midfielder that offers not much else.
Sell as fast as we can
That’s exactly it. His natural game is basically trying do fancy things under pressure, showboating instead of keeping things ticking and being direct using his natural strength and pace.

"You all wanted" Are you not a United fan?

He could have said what he said about United and dodged the Madrid question completely. If United was his club that is - but it isn't.
Yes I'm a United fan.

I'm also a logical fan who understood football players nowadays isn't about blind faith on one club. Time's passed, move on.

Stop living in the past. One man club is no more, get used to it.
