I hope and pray and wish and plead and beg that they bring back the insightful internal monologues that Dexter used to have in the first 4 seasons.
I’m looking forward to him finding yet another women who understands him no way like any other women ever has!

With no Deb and no Doakes what’s the fecking point?!
No Hannah either (think she has Harrison) due to Yvonne Strahovski being in The Handmaid's Tale. Guessing it'll be written with Dexter completely severed from his old life so we won't be seeing any previous characters at all, so there is a kinda relatively blank slate to work from once they (hopefully quickly) brush over the whole him living in a log cabin thing.

Maybe they'll just pretend loads of it was him dreaming and bring all the good characters back...

Always expected this to return someday with the way it ended. Just not 7 years later though

It’s gonna be 10 episodes of Dexter chopping wood.

Nah, Dexter's ending is definitely worse.
I just had a long convo on WhatsApp about this. GoT takes it for me with nearly every scene being stupid or being filled with nonsense
Dexter was going shit from s4 with everything after being one big blur of episodes
I can't even remember much from that finale except the lumberjack scene

God I just remembered that part in season 8 where dexter is stalking someone and he’s just stood at the window staring at him like an idiot

For those that watched it all, and somehow wasn't aware, Clyde Phillips was the showrunner for the first four seasons; he left and was replaced by Scott Buck (showrunner for Nurse Jackie) who did an appalling job with seasons 5,6,7 and 8.

What you probably don't know is that Clyde Phillips almost immediately became the showrunner after Scott Buck left Nurse Jackie and turned an average show into a great one for the remainder of it's run under Phillips.

Scott Buck was the problem with Dexter. Make no mistake. Clyde Phillips coming back to Dexter is a sure thing; almost as sure as Vince Gilligan is for BB/BCSaul.
Scott buck gave us iron Fist and inhumans too. Inhumans especially what a waste of time with such an easy easy concept

In fact following comics shouldn't be that hard when you have the story already there to follow
What a hack

This is certainly a huge surprise (motherfecker).

Not going to lie, I'm really happy to hear this. The first four seasons were great. I quite enjoyed many elements of 5 and 6. Only the final two seasons were the disappointing ones for me. Let's hope that the writing is good and it has a satisfying conclusion.

I'd like it if Deb replaced Harry as the 'ghost' he had conversations with. It'd be a nice way to include Jennifer Carpenter as she really was vital to the success of the series.

Not sure if I'm remembering it right but didn't Dexter just wheel Deb's dead body across a crowded street in the finale and loaded her on to a boat? Everything got so ridiculous towards the end.

why do they want to bring this back? the finale was crap enough, ruining what was a great show in the first few seasons

So are you saying these two basically switched jobs?

Nah, Had GoT had 3-4 hours of more run-time, all those flaws could have been corrected, and they could have closed all the open stories properly. The end result of all that wasn't that bad and was kinda expected.

Dexter on the other hand, the conclusion itself was horrible and if that was the conclusion the show runners wanted to end up with, even 5 more hours of run time couldn't have saved it

The last season was some of the worst telly I have purposively watched. Couldn't stand his sister by the end. It was all just a bit grim.

To be fair there was a hurricane so everyone had just lost their shit.

Really in two minds about this one coming back. I really liked the character, but it just turned to crap after a while. Likely should have been left to die.

Though if they want to try and give it a new location with only Dexter primary as a carry over character, then it might work. At least then they can largely ignore the mess they left behind.

I'll be waiting for reviews of this that's for sure. Seasons 5 - wherever the feck it ended up, were an abomination in contrast to the first 4. The only TV show that beats it in terms of something going so wrong so fast (that I've watched) is the decline of The Simpsons post season 8.

Is there anywhere really for this to go though?

Dexter on his own in a new environment, still killing and wrapping people in plastic on a table until something disrupts that and he has to get rid of a foe. It's been done.

Hopefully they find a way to switch it up.

I think I stuck with it until season six, maybe early season seven, and gave up. Glad I did.

The drop off in quality from season four to five was astounding.

Remember when they brought back Prison Break and it was crap (at least in my opinion)

It feels like the same thing here, a popular series which declined in quality towards the end is being brought back. At least Dexter was still alive at the end of the series which won't lead to a plot hole from the off.

Actually, I liked it most when it was basic like that! My hope is that they do 10 episodes of that without all the distractions of Dexter's social life...

You mean to tell me that him running away to become a logger wasn’t a fitting end?

At least it's the S1-S4 writer doing the reboot as it went downhill after he left but still no idea where they can go with it

Mixed feelings to see it returning. Happy to watch more but I liked the ending, in spite of the the poor execution.

Maybe they can make up for the way it ended so I don't mind them rebooting it.

Which part of the ending did you like?
Well, I thought that the show was always at it's best when examining the psychology of Dexter, something admittedly they did more consistently in the first five seasons. So, whilst I would agree with the general consensus that season 8 was poor and that the finale was rather rough around the edges, I found his sacrifice to walk away from Harrison and Hannah in order to protect them to be a satisfying conclusion, something which validated the series as a whole.

Also, having re-watched it once or twice, it's clear how the show is equally Deborah's story and her death seems somehow appropriate after everything that she had experienced, in addition to providing the tragic consequences of Dexter's actions that were perhaps appropriate for the show to provide.

That's fair @parkthebuslads and a good write up
I personally think the execution of the whole show post Trinity killer was bad and got worse to the end

Walking away makes sense but the way it was done just felt so bad
