Came across this before & a few things surprised me.

Sir Alex Ferguson
P: 1,500, W: 895, D: 338, L: 267. Win%: 59.7%

David Moyes
P: 51, W: 27, D: 9, L:15. Win%: 52.94%

Louis van Gaal
P: 103, W: 54, D: 25, L: 24. Win%: 52.43%

Jose Mourinho
P: 144, W: 84, D: 32, L: 28. Win%: 58.33%

Ole Gunnar Solskjær (including interim)
P: 95, W: 52, D: 20, L: 23. Win%: 54.74%

A few things stick out to me. Fergie’s 59.7% is actually quite remarkable when you consider his first 6 years in charge. His PL era win % must have been close to 70% which is unbelievable. Jose’s record being noticeably better than his other post Fergie peers caught my interest too, and Moyes actually having a better record than LVG, I don’t know why but I just assumed Moyes record would be the worst by far.

It’s also weird to me that Ole is close to overtaking LVG in games, feels like LVG was here way longer.

PPG comparison (assuming 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw):

SAF - 2.02
Moyes - 1.76
LVG - 1.82
Mourinho - 1.97
Ole - 1.85

Not as surprising when laid out that way. LVG had a lot of scoreless draws which brought his win % below Moyes, but on a points per game basis he was slightly better.

The one that sticks out for me is Jose defeats v Ole defeats. It’s a lot closer than I’d have thought considering the games they’ve been in charge for.

A fair few of those Jose losses came in his last half season too. I’d be interested to see his stats before that doomed 18/19 season. Would’ve had a win % of over 65% which is actually very good.

I guess stats don’t tell the full story. I was miserable for large chunks of the Mourinho era.

Oh don’t get me wrong I don’t want to go to back to the Jose days at all, I just didn’t expect numbers to be as close as they were.

The Fergie stats are fairly meaningless as he was normally competing on multiple fronts (and therefore prioritising certain games) and playing in the Champions League rather than against third-rate teams in the Europa.

Agreed. I hated the football but numbers don’t lie, statistically he’s our best manager since Fergie quite comfortably.

Feels wrong but until that 3rd season Jose had a higher win % than SAF - If he’d resigned that summer before he spat his dummy he would have had the highest United win%
