I'm starting to like the makeup of the squad again. Just a RW and someone to take over from matic.
Yeah. Despite the imperfect support from the board, Ole has done an amazing job reshaping it and so quickly and ruthlessly ridding as much deadwood as possible.

We now also have some proper depth. @ GK, fullbacks, all across mf and 2 striker.

Just lack depth on the wings and one more quality CB. Hope one of the new wingers kids can 'break through' this season, and Garner can come back from loan able to take Matic minutes.

Cavani will take 3 or 4 weeks to get into proper groove, but I have a feeling he will be amazing.

    .....................De Gea.....................
    .........
    Lindelof Maguire Shaw.........
    WanB .............Matic .............Telles
    .............Bruno..........VdBeek................
    .......
    Martial..................Rashford

    Subs: Pogba, Cavani, Fred

3-3-2-2 formation, with Matic barely ever crossing half way line.
Not ideal that Telles makes his debut in such a high pressure game, but needs must

Have we played against neymar before?
We played against him once in a friendly when he was at Barca, he scored in that game. Apart from that don't think we played against him.

We played Barca twice and he was at PSG at that time.
We played PSG in the same season, he was injured.

I have a feeling about this too. Get Shaw as LCB for his recovery pace, with Telles providing width at LWB.

Midfield, any two of Matic, Fred and McTominay to provide a base for Bruno and a partnership of Rashford and Martial up top.

This is how I would go at least. Greenwood, VDB, Cavani, Mata and Pogba on the bench. Some solid options there when you compare to last season.
Pretty much this. I’d like to see Henderson as well as the Cup keeper

It'll be interesting to see who our UCL keeper is. Are we going to go with Dave for the league and Hendo for the cups?

They are going to be so up for this, we'll either get smashed or you know what will happen again
Henderson, for the cups. He needs to see the manager trusts him too and in the bigger games. He will learn from it and develop his game further in the CL. He’s not here just to be a foil for DDG and simply improve DDG’s consistency.

I mean PSG is a really good side no doubt about it, but am I the only one who finds their team surprisingly underwhelming on paper (except for their front 3)? I think man for man our squad quality isn't too far apart.

I think PSG will be all over us for the whole game and it will be very difficult to stop them for sure.
It's why Tuchel has been so pissed with Leonardo, they just made it to the CL finals and yet he's not bringing in players while letting players walk away on free transfers.

Sit in deep and look to frustrate and then hit them on counter with pace. PSG won't play with a deep line at the back so Martial Rashford etc are going to get acres of space in certain moments.

Our best chance of getting anything. Dont think we are good enough to trade off a shot for them and then a shit for us. They will come out on top if we do.

We rotated for a reason, so that the players who were rested can go full force for this game. Pogba will play. Matic, I don't know. But Ole would play them and tell that that we rotated, so they have no excuse to not run over the PSG midfield. VdB in the same situation for this game, but Bruno might play because he's superhuman.

Ole goes with a 5 at the back pretty much every time we're against a team better than us or away against a team as good. So I'd guess:

    ------------------DDG
    Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    AWB - Pogba - Matic - Telles
    ------------------Bruno
    ------------Rashford-Martial
No we go 5 at the back when we don't have enough creative midfielders or forwards, but especially the midfielders, to ask the FB to attack.
Our midfield is back. At worst, if we want to set up defensive, we will reuse Fred and Scott but I think because we have rotated, the expectation is that those who have not played are fresh to play a full intensity game. And that's what we will ask of them.

We're either gonna fluke a draw or get completely destroyed.
We can win. As soon as our intensity is back, we are going to play in a way that very few teams will be able to handle, because it's very vertical and direct. And it will make us super resilient.

We need to have a very high tempo right from the off. Cant be switched off in the beginning. Have a feeling PSG will start with a lot of intensity and hit us hard with a goal or two.

Yeah Cavani will start after one day of training. Seriously?
Most of the line-ups don't have Cavani starting from what I've read by posters! Also it will be 3 days of training.

Why are we so eager to play VdB at right wing, when he has never played there in his entire career?

    This please

Martial will start his season here.
It's an interesting line up, but VdB on the right... well asked to play a bit like Mata then? And drift centrally to offer a fixating point like Mata did? Against PSG we will need to be good at getting the feet on the ball.

anybody with a brain isn't. He's not exactly athletic in the first place.

It's going to be interesting to see how we can contain Neymar, Di Maria and Mbappe. The rest aren't scary.

One way is to block the ball transmission to them and force them to come down to get the ball. This will be especially true for Neymar and Mbappe, but they will then try most likely to jump over us as they can find Mbappe speed for example. I'm interested to see how Ole solve this one.

Neymar likes to come deep and get the ball to feet anyway, he rarely stays high or wide waiting. He's more of a playmaker in this side and will drop into midfield to get the ball and then use his speed and agility to weave through our midfield.

IMO Fred has to play this match as a Pogba/matic midfield will get left for dust unfortunately

I think we did a great job of isolating Saint Maximan against Newcastle who is a similar style player, so let's see if we can do it again. Neymar is a different level though.

Fred and Scott seem perfect for this type of game. We will need to be aggressive in winning the ball back quickly and stopping them from getting any rhythm going.

Fred had a storm in that famous win last time, hopefully he can do the same again.

I'd be tempted to go with Bruno, VDB and Martial behind Rashford to get us to be as direct as possible on the counter.

    Looking forward to the game.

Yes you're right but we did the rotation for a reason. Fred is already tired and we know he's not very good when playing every 3 days. The midfield is a demanding area so I think we will have to rotate. Fred and Scott are industrious and sometimes you need that but it all depends on what we want to achieve... OR we agree with Pogba, VdB that we want to win the game in the last 20mn. And we let Fred and Scott harass their midfield and the offensive players.

If we do go 3 at the back (and we probably will) ... I would put McT back there with Maguire and Lindelof.

Then have 3 of Matic/Fred/VDB/Bruno/Pogba in front of them and Rashford/Martial up front.

Ye, just get as many ballers on the park as possible.

VDB is versatile and has earned a start. Or stick Greenwood out wide, Pogba on bench and VDB in midfield - but seen as Greenwood didn't even travel - I can't see him starting v PSG.

I really can't see us going for a back 3.

Seeing all the predicted teams, our team’s not bad is it?

Maybe not as bad of a squad as made out (on paper at least).

I’d go with 3-5-2, with a fluid midfield...

    Henderson

    Bailly
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Awb
    Bruno
    Fred
    Vdb
    Telles

    Rashford
    Martial

Bailly and Shaw at the back to better deal with Mbappe’s pace.
