He has't played since March - that's SEVEN MONTHS without football. Today was only his SECOND training session - there was absolutely no chance of him being involved tomorrow. I will also bet my life that he won't be involved vs Chelsea
The specific circumstances of against whom he was playing could have warranted him playing a quick run out. His being up for the game could have countered any fitness levels.

I’m not particularly bothered by him not playing, it would have been fun to see him go after his former club. Any bit of game time experience would only be beneficial.

Three at the back or no Pogba in midfield (or both). That's surely a prerequisite.

Huge ask for Tuanzebe to play (and start) his first game in absolute ages away to PSG. Think the sensible approach here is three at the back. Lindelof needs to step up and organise the defense with presumably Tuanzebe and Shaw. I'd play Tuanzebe in the centre of the three.

    -------------------------de Gea
    ----------Lindelof---Tuanzebe---Shaw
    AWB-----------------------------------------------Telles
    --------------McTom------------VdB
    ----------------------------Bruno
    ----------------Rashford--------Martial

Id play a 4312 personally. My concern over a back 3 is that while it looks more defensively secure on paper I can see players of the quality of Neymar, Mbappe & Di Maria dragging them all over the place to the point where the wing backs can't get forward. It gives us little hope of getting a foothold in the game and we'll resort to long balls down the channels.

I think we're better than that, and PSG have key midfielders missing. A 4312 with 3 of Fred/McT/Pogba/VDB gives us a good chance of controlling the midfield. Rashford and Martial can try to drag defenders out wide so that Bruno, and when possible Pogba or VDB or even both, can exploit the spaces.

I fancy we'll see the best version of Pogba what with this being in France. I'm actually quietly confident. I think we can win this if we impose our game on them.

That would be my line-up also. McTominay played 3 games at right centre back for Scotland last week, so I'd give him the nod over Tuanzebe, who hasn't played a game in how many months now?

So at this stage, how many players will PSG be missing for this one? Last time I saw they may only have 11 fit players to choose from.
Make it Herrera, Kehrer, Paredes, Verratti & Icardi definitely out,Marquinhos & Draxler are doubts but could still play

True, mate. I think he finished the game on Saturday playing there, though. No Maguire, no Bailly, I wouldn't be surprised seeing him slot in there beside Lindelof and Shaw as a back 3 with AWB and Telles wingbacks.
Think Ole will pair McTom and Matic in front of the back 4 to protect the width of the penalty area with one or the other dropping to make it a 5 at the back when needed.

    Prove it.
You know damn well that coaches don't put their young players in such situation. It is PSG. It is Neymar/Mbappe. It is the UCL. and you want to throw young players that have not played a game yet in such a massive game and potentially rob them of their confidence if Kylian and Neymar have one of those days. you know better.

Jonny Evans made his debut against Chelsea where he had to mark out Drogba.

Rashford made his debut in a must win game in Europa League and then against Arsenal in the PL.

If you're mentally good enough, you're good enough. Age simply isn't a factor.

it is UCL. It is PSG. It is Neymar&Mbappe on their day, the 1&2 in the world.. you are just not going to send a Mengi in there on our Champions League return (AWAY)

I've always liked this way of fitting in Bruno and sorting out getting Martial and Rashford away from polluting the flanks. The bold spots we'd ideally want to be strengthening with dedicated CB's and replacing Matic with the absolute best defensive midfielder we have. Supplementing the 8 position with Fred/DvB/McTom is probably the way to go moving forward with Ole.

On the game, Martial is in a weird spot here. If he's crap then he'll probably struggle to get another game in the league on return, but it is not like Ole can waste this opportunity to give him another 90 minutes.

    @Adnan

how do we go about defending against PSG, given our depleted defensive resources?
It's gonna be tough with the players missing but IMO we should cede space and invite them on and use our pace up top to exploit the space in behind. Playing out from the back might not be a great idea because I foresee AWB being targeted for the wide pressing trap.

But the key is the midfield and having two high energy players infront of the CBs will be key but whomever he selects I hope they express themselves on the ball or otherwise it's gonna be one way traffic with the forwards isolated. But if we can get the ball to the forwards in the final third then we can cause them problems.

It is Paris, as the leader of national team, Pogba must start! He must. We might lose him mentally for good if he does not

Newcastle were quite poor against us, but some of our transitions were outstanding - quick precise passing, great movement and drive. If we have some of those players on the pitch - thinking mainly of Bruno, VdB and McTominay, we have a threat. Probably too big an ask to get another start from Mata so soon, and I think with Maguire out, we'd be wise to go 3 at the back. Whether that leaves AWB targeted, he'll at least have more support. But I agree that we shouldn't be playing out from the back. Punt it to McTominay or out to the wing backs if they're in space.

Ole is obviously not going to pick those three, but if he did wake up in the morning and decided he was gonna man-mark Neymar, Mbappe and Tia Maria for 90+ minutes those three are the ones in the United squad with the pace, strength and power to do the job. If you're good enough you're old enough.

I will put my money on
    AWB- McTom - Lindelof-Shaw-Telles
    Fred-Pogba
    Bruno
    Martial-Rashford
With Mbappe's pace, we can't have Matic out there. I feel it for VdB, I really do.

I would start McTominay and VdB together in a two if Solskjaer goes with the regular formation. VdB has the industry and intelligence to play that role and can break lines whilst fending off pressure which is really important if we want to advance play to the requisite standard against a very good team.

Agreed on formation and Pogba. And with PSG injury issues, am quietly confident we can get at least point and maybe even win. We will definitely score, so its upto PSG on how they score 2.

It's hard to predict what the back-line will be but I hope to see VdB starting in a deeper role in midfield alongside McTominay or Fred which will give us industry at the very least with VdB having the potential to release the forwards whilst being under a targeted press.

But it's gonna be a very tough game.

I will be nervous for this like I am with any game against a good CL team. I just hope it doesn't go badly for us. I hope Telles keeps Di Maria quiet and our defenders generally keep focused.
