McTominay plays as the RCB in a back 3 for Scotland. He's also played there for United at least five or six times. So I can see why people are selecting him for that position tonight.

But I can't remember any occasions when Shaw has played as the LCB in a back 3. I agree that he'd be well suited to the role, but I'm just not seeing any precedents the way McTominay has.

I'd be surprised if Ole threw Shaw into that position - for the first time - in a game this big.
Shaw did it 5 times last season while McTominay did it 0. The precedent is every time we went 3 at the back it was typically with Shaw at CB. Meanwhile McTominay hasn’t started a single match at CB under Ole.

Do you not actually watch the matches or something? Shaw played there against Liverpool, Chelsea, and City twice. Literally our biggest matches of the season.

    Now now don’t be rude!

You’re right however and to add to this he has started as LCB in champions league matches too iirc.

Yeah, my response was that it might not matter what he does tonight, if anything, if Cavani turns up and scores In every game he plays in, Martial won’t start many games for us as a number 9
Not really. If we assume Cavani will start EPL and Martial CL:

Cavani has Chelsea and Arsenal before suspension is finished
Martial has PSG, Lepzig and Istanbul before suspension is finished

It doesn't really matter, i'll take whoever is hitting the net. But past experience shows us that Martial starts scoring when his position is under question.

The team almost picks itself now assuming Henderson is our cup keeper...

    -------------------------------------Henderson----------------------------------
    Williams--McTominay---Lindeloff--------Shaw-------Telles
    --------------------Pogba----------------------------Matic---------------------
    ---------------------------------------Bruno------------------------------------
    ---------------------Martial--------------------Rashford----------------------

BTW...I absolutely hate the 5-3-2, I just know that's how we are going to line up. I know some will want to call it a 3-5-2 but that's 5 defenders not 5 midfielders...
Picks itself? I've seen a multitude of versions on here. Midfield and defense is a huge debate. I'd say most people don't want Pogba to start this match.

As far as I know Ole have never started Mctominay or Matic at the back - ever. Ole prefers to play them in their natural positions which is midfield.

I think it’s more possible to see TFM in a back 5 rather than mctominay or matic.

Or are you just letting your blindspot on McTominay cloud your judgment? You've hated him since he first broke through.
He'd be lucky to get a Championship side to play him at CB on loan. You're having a laugh if you think a PL side would.

He had a decent game. Still fecking shit mind you. Axel or O'Connor are about 10x as talented.
You even predicted he'd be sold by July 2019:
He'll be gone in a years time.
How's that one going for you?

Obviously whos going to play at CB alongside Lindelof is the million dollar question. In my opinion Ole shouldn’t really throw Tuanzebe into the team...It could be a baptism of fire for him...So maybe the best option would be to play Mctominay and Shaw in a back 3,with AWB and Telles playing as Wingbacks.

I obviously wouldn’t want Mctominay or Shaw to play as a CB in a conventional back 4,but if we play 3 at the back that just might give them the extra protection that they need.

This time we may need both Shaw and Mctominay in a back 3 with Lindelof.I wouldn’t want Ole to throw Tuanzebe into such a big game....We need players who have been playing regularly to play this game....

    Yes that’s the big question.
I came to the conclusion that I would like to see:
    James - AWB - Lindelöf - Shaw - Telles

But I think we will see:
    AWB - TFM - Lindelöf - Shaw - Telles

I wouldn’t mind to switch TFM with McTominay But I just dont think Ole rates him at the back.

Not even rude, it’s a genuine question.

How can someone support a club enough to have about 20k posts on their forum yet has missed 6 matches all against Liverpool, City, Chelsea, and Barcelona where Shaw played CB? And at the same time has seen 6 matches of McTominay playing at CB. (Of which 4 don’t actually exist and the other 2 were under Mourinho.).

cool story. Instead of trawling through my posts maybe watch the matches and see Shaw playing CB several times.

And no, McTominay didn’t start a single match at CB last season.

And it’s going poorly, I still have to put up with McTominay being bang average and us never winning anything because of it.

I’ll be honest McTomminay hasn’t played CB for us since Mourinho was here, certainly didn’t last season.

I never said he started at CB. Learn how to read.

I don't need to trawl your posts to remember your shitty posts. Your hatred for McTominay has stood out for years.

I suppose we could always follow your advice and buy O'Connor back from Tranmere. He's apparently 10 times more talented than McTominay.

He's dropped back to CB to see out games several times under Ole. It was a thing precisely because people used it to vindicate Mourniho.

Have we got a full travelling squad yet?

    De Gea, Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Shaw, Telles, Williams
Bruno, Pogba, Van de Beek, Matic, Fred, McTominay, Mata, James
    Rashford, Martial, Ighalo

    Fosu-Mensah? Tuanzebe? Mengi?

    We all love United
I expect some shithousery from Herrera in the game. He used to do this for us against our opponents and now i expect him to return the favour

    Anyone saw Pauly’s analysis?

    https://thebusbybabe.sbnation.com/2...analysis-out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new

Which makes me think that either we risk trying Telles right away with maybe Axel or Shaw as the CB partner to Lindelof, or we use Axel and Shaw as LB.

Scott would go be the RCB instead of splitting the CB like Matic does. VdB will play the 10 role and Bruno will get into the play to combine with him.

And we bomb forward AWB, Shaw or Telles (the LB), Martial, Pogba to transition between the lines... we try that and we see how PSG responds.

People saying we are risking Telles but unlike Cavani, he was a regular starter for Porto all of this season therefore is match fit and should be able to slot right in.
Physically yes. But he doesn’t speak English so we need to figure out if they will work. Not everything is going to be easy with just a smile

Lindelof, Pogba and Bruno speak Portuguese so i'm sure he won't have any issues in that sense.

Anyway football isn't really a game that requires lots of speaking, just certain words. He will be fine.

Just hope Ole has a lot of plans. The obvious thing PSG can do is shut down Rashford and Press hard on Bruno so he can’t create a lot of chances.

On one hand, the front 3 against any of our defenders is horrifying. On the other hand, the rest of their 11 is so very mediocre. No passers, no creativity, no ball progression in midfield or defence. No idea who Bakker is though, and Florenzi I haven't seen much in recent years. But 3 ball winners in midfield who don't pass it well is good for us. Though at the same time its almost like they'll be set up to counter us.

I said "almost" picks itself. That's because with Maguire and Bailly out we are obviously going to go with a back 5. So who are the players available for that? The guys I mentioned. The only uncertainty for me is who is in goal and whether VDB finally gets his start. But seeing as Pogba and Matic were both on the bench on Sunday and Bruno has been announced as the captain, this is what seems logical to me. You don't have to agree...
