He’s gonna be one of those where we’ll still be saying ‘if only he could get past the injuries he’d be amazing’ when he’s deep into his thirties.

This season he should have been getting regular games in the first team but it's a write off season instead. We keep getting linked to defenders so he's going to find it a lot harder to push for a spot

If he'll manage to stay fit next season he will get plenty of chances. Lucky for him Ole rates him highly as evident by the fact he was 3rd choise at the beginning of the season. It's been a while since we had a decent Home grown CB.

Surely if he stays fit, he is a much better option than Maguire?

Pace and agility is so important in modern football for a defender. Maguire has neither. Tuanzebe has both. When fully fit he has always been a great talent. We have to bite the bullet at some point with Maguire and forget he cost £80m and choose the best players.

I always say he isn't quite good enough in the air but then I remember he's much better than Lindelof.

He’s not better than Maguire but he should start

I don’t think he’s been amazing but has been solid and has had some very good moments. Given how long he’s been out It’s amazing the level he’s played at, which is very promising

you can see what a difference having pace in a back four has. I’m not shiting on Lindelof or Maguire but both playing today don’t get near mbappe when he had the run on axel

Take a bow. Incredible performance up against two world class forwards in his first game in a year.

Incredible, I’ve always said this kid has everything in his locker that we would look for in a new CB signing.

Unreal considering his first game in 6 months against two of the best players in the competition.

Unpopular opinion : A fit Tuanzebe is better than Upamecano

Fantastic. Kept up with Mbappe in a foot race, great in the air, good on the ball.

When you consider he has been out for a season pretty much, fantastic performance, handled the pace of Mbappe running through the middle superbly several times and was positionally aware, hope he can stay injury free and build on this

If he stays injury free and progressing as he is now , our search for A quality pacy CB might be over. Very impressed with him , looks to have it all. What we need to see now is consistency.

Couldn’t believe he’s been out a year he’s still lightning quick

Could be a low key crucial part of our season

Always said that when fit Tuanzebe has everything to be a genuinely top class centre back, if Mengi carries on improving too then neither Lindelof or Maguire will get in the team and we’ll see a Tuanzebe/Mengi partnership at the back long term.

I still can't believe he managed to put such a colossal defensive performance against Mbappe after a very long time not playing. Guy showed he has an insane potential and belongs to this level of football.

Hopefully will end Maguire’s stint in the first team. I don’t want to see slabhead back in this starting line up. Alex for Priminister.

Looked the part tonight. Hopefully keeping Mbappe at bay won't go to his head too much and get carried away though. We've all seen the trope of a young player performing his bollocks off in a high profile game, but that performance not translating into a high profile career.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
Lovely work from him tonight. Hopefully he's back fitter and stronger and ready to show that he should always start. I liked what I saw of him before his injuries, great to see him come back like this. Delighted.

I thought Tuanzebe was really excellent tonight. Motm contender. Hopefully the start of big things for him. If we had signed a CB for 60 or 70 Mill. and he had turned in that performance we would be very happy.

I just find it weird that most of our young defenders either from youth teams or elsewhere seem to be injury-prone. And, the ones that got moved because of it became decent players in other teams and the ones that we kept because we hoped they would get over it stay well injury-prone.

It is remarkable.
