Optimistic about this game. As long as we are good at the back we should win. Wonder if Maguire will start now we know he isn't THAT important to our defense.

Cavani can play in this match can’t he, would be great to see him bag the winner considering how much Chelsea have spent on players.
Has been linked with him in the past too, hopefully those extra days training will really benefit

VDB and Matic to start against Leipzig in the same formation. If Greenwood is not ready then Cavani
Let's keep the formation that strangled PSG at the end.
I dont think Tuanzabe can play twice in less than a week.
Keeping an eye on Luke Shaw, he did look like he picked a knock against PSG. Telles to start against Leipzig as well

Fingers crossed we don't do what we did after the last win over PSG

Our standard 4-2-3-1 formation and team tbh. Need to rotate before Leipzig match, and McFred has to rest. Cavani in for Martial.

Axel just returned from a long injury lay-off, I can see Ole being cautious to avoid another injury. I think we stick with the 3-5-2 since it’s worked in big games for us:

    De Gea

    Lindelof Maguire Shaw

    AWB Fred Pogba Telles

    Bruno

    Greenwood Rashford

    3-1 United.

3 home games in a row. Feck. Can't we play all our games away?

People who pick Cavani, do you realize that he was not even ready to be on the bench against PSG?
And you want him to start 4 days later? No way.

He has to be involved sooner or later, isn't it? Especially given the opponents we face in the next 5 games.

I agree though, he will probably come as a sub and not start.

    Btw, any news on Mason?

Guessing Ole won't want to rush Greenwood back so probably see him off the bench along with Cavani. DvB seems to only be trusted in the AM positions otherwise I'd bank on him starting this one.

Same team as last night only Greenwood in for Martial (suspended)

Don't change something that's not broken is my motto. Team played great last night and must have got a lot of confidence from it. Pick them again and we can have likes of Pogba, Donny, Mata, Cavani etc to come on if needed.

Both teams have a defence which is there to be got at, so I think we will setup the same as PSG with 5 at the back to contain. Chelsea are slow in defensive transitions, so if we can invite them on, turn over possession and move it upfield at pace we should create plenty of chances. Stick Rashford up on Silva and send balls through or over the top for him to pace him.

I'd imagine Axel will sit this one out so we don't overplay him after 10 months or so out. Maguire to come back in there.

That Chelsea defence is there to be got at.
Attack is their strength. Strategy should be to nullify the threat yet keeping enough versatility in our attack. If we overload our attack then they can hurt us bad.

Rashford should be rested and play VDB as false 9 instead. Rest Shaw and keep Telles. Add Pogba in place of Shaw. Keep McT and Fred in front of 4. Let Pogba, Bruno and VDB run the midfield with Martial up front. Telles can joing the attack from left flank.

If we lead by say 2 goals then bring Shaw for Pogba. Close the door, say goodnight.

Not sure how we'll line up tbh. We could go with the same team that started last night, but having watched this Chelsea defence this season I think we can afford to be a little more progressive.

I really do think under ole we have constantly looked our best with a 352. I think we have to stick with it. Possibly a change in personnel here and there but the shape suits us and can be defensive or attacking

Can see the temptation to really get at that defence though

Want to see more of this diamond we had at the end! Gets our players into good positions!

4-4-2 diamond. Rest some players for the Leipzig game. Shaw for example got a cramp after about 75 minutes against PSG so could do with a rest.

    DDG
    AWB-Tuanzebe-Lindelof-Telles
    Matic
    VDB-Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood-Rashford

We shouldnt change anything from the PSG game. Same starting line up, same tactics, same subs, same everything. Just Cavani or Greenwood instead of Martial cuz hes suspended and you might wanna play Maguire instead of Lindelof but its optional.
    All the same.

Fred doesnt need to rest. He easily could have played another 90 minute game after the game ended...and then another 90 minute game after that..followed by a training session.

To early to say but if both bailly and Maguire are still out then it will surely be a back 3 again, I just hope ole doesnt put William's at left wing back to rest telles. I also hope we dont see the matic/pogba/Fernandes combo as it hasn't done us any favours of late, would stick to the same side with Greenwood for martial (suspended still right?)

I want to see Telles again, and Cavani also. I think 3-5-2 could be the way to go this season, but we have to let the wing-back get forward. I'd go:

    Degea
    Tuanzebe - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Pogba - Fred - Telles
    Bruno
    Cavani - Rashford

Sure looked like it, didn't it?

Honestly, with the match schedule, I'm torn. Ole needs to, and will, rotate. But guessing where he does so... flip coins.

Much as I'd prefer the 3-5-2, I think he'll want to rest as many players that played both the last two games as possible.

    Henderson (head)/DDG (tails)
    AWB - Tuanzebe - Maguire - Telles
    Fred - Matic
    Mata - VdB - James
    Greenwood

Subs: Pogba - Bruno - Rashford

I can see this lineup, even though it's a lot of changes from PSG, it's not too many from Newcastle. I think Mata - VdB - Greenwood should work well together, and James gives us breaking speed, just to keep Chelsea honest and wear them down.

I don't know why but I would be inclined to start Mata for this one.

    ----------------------DDG----------------------
    AWB---Lindleof----Harry---Telles
    -----Mctom-----Fred-----VDB------
    --------------------Bruno----------------------
    -----Greenwood-----Rashford----------

    Subs
Cavani for Rashford last 25 mins.
    Pogba for Bruno.
Matic/Mata for Fred depending if we need to be more defensive or creative.
Maguire in if fit to ease Tuanzebe back in.

That's a high energy midfield with some creativity.

Would like to see this at some point this season.

    -----------------------DDG----------------------
    AWB---Lindleof----Harry---Shaw--
    ----McSauce-----Fred--------Telles--
    --------------Bruno-------VDB---------------
    ---------------------Cavani--------------------

People say Telles is better attacking than defending so let him attack.

Apologies for the confusion but what I meant is that our defense can cope against great players without him without falling apart.

Not to mention his nightmare against Spurs. You could argue that was a one off but he isn't a world class defender. Not at this stage anyway.

Hopefully we're properly up to speed now, after the start of the season utterly caught us out.

Huge game. Win this, and we can actually start thinking very positively.
