Stadia has been horrible, there is no internet that fast to compensate for that. Best version of cloud gaming is Nvidia GeForce Now, tons better than Stadia, but even that is far from being good for "competitive" gaming. Cloud gaming is far from that.

So yeah, if you must go for cloud gaming, GeForce Now >>>>> Stadia. Not even close.

And yet, for whatever reason, stadia works near flawlessly on my internet connection and geforce as of about 2 weeks ago, on the same connection was lagging and freezing and basically unplayable.

I'm not saying stadia is or isn't superior, just that it seems to work best for me.

This is what I cannot fathom; the general animosity towards stadia. It's an optional service that you don't have to have if you don't want it. I'm baffled by how desperately some people attack it. You'd almost think someone was forcing them to buy it. Bizarre

Nothing desperate about it, if it works great for you, go for it, it doesn't work good for big majority of people, add to that that with GeForce you can play the already owned games while you have to buy the game again on Stadia even if you already have it which is beyond bonkers.

It deserves all the backlash it had, and more, if it works great for you, that's fine.

Just out of interest, have you tried it yet? Currently you can get 2 months free.

I'm okay with the games I own situation as I own about 3 steam games in total. So again, for me, with no big steam library, stadia games, with the exception of destiny 2 which I got included anyway, are not duplicates with my ps4 library.

I’ve got the Stadia, I’m playing games on on my 4K TV, zero lag, it’s gorgeous and I’ve never had issues. Games get released for free on the £10 subscription every month and I’ve bought about 5 games I really want, such as Red Dead Redemption 2.

I get why it’s not for many people, but I’m a casual, 5 hours per week kinda player, so 80 quid, no expensive hardware, the console box hides behind my TV, it’s perfect for me.

PS - anyone Want to add me my user is Jonnowilson

Been on Stadia since mid-May. For me as a working father of two, it is perfect for casual gaming. No need to invest in one of the upcoming consoles when i only have time to play a few hours a week. I bought a premiere edition, and i gotta say; it runs flawlessly on ethernet connected Chromecast Ultra. Assassins Creed: Odyssey was amazing!
Gaming via CCU works better than on wireless connection on my laptop, but that is also at an acceptable quality for me.
I will likely cancel my PRO when free 3month trial runs out in a few days, as i will not need 4K etc for the coming month. Intention is to buy PRO depending on what games are available to claim, and what sales are on.

Big thumbs up for casual gamers like me

Has anyone tried stadia recently? I just picked up a tablet for bedtime viewing and I'm wondering should I give this a go?

Give GeForce Now a try too. If you already own some of the games on Steam/Epic or Uplay you can play it through that too. Using my Shield. Unfortunately Nvidia lost some exclusives and no Rockstar but they still have all of the ACs, and CD Project Red to name some. I also like how I can use nvidia gamestream for non GeForce Now games to stream from my own pc instead but i presume you do need a Nvidia card for that.

There's a free one month trial.

Also, and most people miss this. You can also just buy a game and play it without subscription.

Take the 1 month free and see how you like it.

Are alll games available on the trial and would I have to buy games even with the subscription?

If you take the 1 month trial you get access to about 15 games that you can claim straight away (this currently includes Destiny 2, Dead by Daylight, Orcs must die 3 and a bunch of indie games of varying quality). These games are actively available to you all the time you remain a subscriber (think exactly like PS plus - if you stop subscribing you lose access to the ps plus games you claimed until you re-subscribe). If you buy a game separately from the store, then you can continue to play it without any subscription whenever you like for as long as Stadia exists.

So to answer more directly what you asked - no, not all games on Stadia are available to subscribers (so not at all like X box gamespass), but no, you do not need to buy games as a subscriber if you don't want to.

Thanks. I’m uch a casual gamer that i haven’t played more than a couple of times since the previous post. I have a few Steam games, but no Shield. Don’t even know if they are sold here (Norway). Also, most Steam games i own i prefer playing on a pc, rather than with a controller on a tv, so only thing that would give me is really another «store» to buy games in, albeit a bigger store.

The big thing for me is having a platform to play AC:O, and later the next AC:Valhalla. I also have bought Ghost Recon Breakpoint(though i actually play that on my laptop) , and will at some point get RDR:2 when a decent sale comes around. Considering how little i play, buying an expensive console is useless, but a cheap entry to play a little now and then is perfect.

I have assassin's creed odyssey on Stadia. I bought the version with all expansions on sale for 21.99 about 6 months ago.

I could also have picked up RDR2 for £23.99 a few weeks ago, but didn't due to concerns I'd never find the time to play it.

I would think the new AC will be on Stadia too

This sort of out of touch with modern gamers thinking explains a lot about why Stadia is struggling. Also, greed.

Streamers bring a hell of a lot more focused advertising than any other medium, for free, and so much so that developers/publishers actually account for them in code. This is such a terrible take and will further alienate people to them.

With all fairness, how many of those people care. I know plenty of people that have downloaded everything they possibly can without paying for it. But I don't know who he is.

Well he's getting a lot of attention from big streamers and developers about it now, as he is pretty much saying this will happen and Google will be among those pushing it. The reason it's not something to just roll eyes at is what's been happening with DMCA strikes all over the place.

Considering the huge boost streaming has been to gaming, It's incredibly myopic. Even more so when they hardly used the platform to advertise their now struggling product.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't he saying that the streamers haven't bought a licence to stream the game.

Just like the music analogy, if they play the CDs they own in the privacy of their own home, no problem. But play it on their streams and bang - Your video has been shut down by a claim from Universal Media Group.

Anyone remember this tweet?

It's funny, because the prevailing wind of popular opinion seems to have turned on "reaction" youtubers who just watch a video and react to it. But if a youtuber was playing a story-game like Life is Strange (which let's be honest, is closer to video than game) that's okay.

You're absolutely right though, streamers and youtubers have created huge amounts of free publicity for the games they play. And if a game developer wants to be selfish and take a cut from streamers then more power to them. And more power to the streamers to choose a different game to play instead.

It would be sad when Nintendo gut the speedrunning scene though. I have loads of respect for speedrunners and they definitely rely on streaming money.

Streaming has been increasingly major for over 10 years now, and gaming has been boosted by it not slowed. In fact, an increasing number of new games now include features specifically for streamers. Yet only now it's an issue, for a struggling platform no less. And it also ignores the boost in sales these games get, Minecraft being a huge example of it.

This is corporate greed just trying to get another piece of the pie, they've seen a growing market (one that has already provided much more to them in free marketing that is calculable) I bet you he won't get much support from developers, only some publishers and even then it will just be the usual lot.

It is crazy.

I definitely think Minecraft would be a tiny fraction of itself without its youtubers. There are a thousand youtube-clones. If the youtubers had fled Minecraft and played a clone instead, I can imagine a world where Minecraft isn't the biggest in the world.

The only Stadia game I'm interested in is Orcs Must Die 3. Love OMD.

Can't wait for it to come out on Steam

What gets me about it is I'm behind modernisation of things like this, if it's fair and makes sense. But what we have here is just a completely out of touch way of trying to push through yet another policy that ONLY benefits the publisher. For all twitter/social media's flaws, one good thing is that people can see corporate greed happening in front of their eyes before it's too late.

But my word, just how stupid can someone be? I mean if they'd actually worked with streamers in the first place to promote their system rather than relying on the same old Google arrogance that everyone would just love their product, then maybe his view would be a bit different.

I wonder how much games make because of streamers. Look at the revival of Among Us, people like Timthetatman buying all or most weapon skins and player skins in CoD and the spin off that brings with joe-soap gamers then buying same.

Doc Disrespect creating a map for Rogue Company and then having hiS character purchasable in the game.

streamers prob generate way more revenue for games than a licence scheme could ever bring in.

Oof, turns out his header is misleading and he's deliberately acting like a creative at Stadia, when in fact he works for a dev bought by them.

Also he called games journalists racist to anyone who isn't Japanese.

When they say all publicity is good, well I'm guessing Stadia aren't happy with this one

Stadias biggest problem is the amount of people who think you have to be a subscriber to play games that you have purchased in the store.

The poster above who is waiting for OMD 3 on steam, could just sign up for an account and buy that game then play it on stadia whenever he/she wants without any further money outlay.

Or alternatively that person simply doesn't want to play via Stadia so would prefer not to spend any money on its store.

Yeah that's great until Stadia gets shut down.

That 3 day thing they just did was pitiful.
Well it's not going anywhere right now. I can't spend my life in fear that a couple of games I have bought for £20 and will likely have moved on from within 3-6 months might not be available to me in 2 year's time. And, if that actually did happen, I could likely buy the game again on another platform for a fraction of the price.

I absolutely get that plenty of people don't want or need stadia - in which case, don't subscribe or buy into it. What I don't get are the people who seem to want it to fail just so they can prove their own predictions correct.

Without stadia I'd do a lot less gaming and that's true for quite a few people who have it.

Not you, Twitter folk, YouTube people, reddit types; that sort.

For some reason stadia must fail otherwise they really won't be happy in life.

People like that are best ignored. Miserable sods.

As I said in my first post in this thread, it is the future but this is way too soon. Google always like to jump the gun on this stuff then abandon it.

I watched a lot of the 3 day event and it was sadly very poor. It was even shocking to me that as of yesterday they got around 7k interactions on their tweets about it. That's an incredibly low number, unheard of even.

Agreed that the three day thing was cringe City.

This said, the 3 free to play demos are actually decent. Fenyx rising is worth a try and the pac man battle royale lite thing was more fun than I expected. Then again I'm old enough to remember when original pac man was new and the biggest game on the planet

People are just annoyed at Stadia because literally every other cloud gaming has better performance than Stadia which gets most promotion of course because Google.

Every shit Stadia gets it's way they deserve it.

And yet, I tried the geforce one and it was awful on my Internet and stadia runs perfectly. PSnow also wasn't anywhere near as good.

I have 350 meg broadband in a low contention area so I know my Internet can handle streaming

So literally every streaming service isn't better performing than stadia for everyone.

That's good for you but majority decides, so it is. It is like some game working terrible on 85% of gamers PCs and someone says it works perfect on his so it's all fine. There were reviews, tests etc, Stadia is terrible and victim of memes for a reason.
