It’s tactics from Ole to be honest.

Chelsea will play on the counter so I understand Mata and I understand the lineup. Tuanzebe is expected not to start after being out for so long.

We’ve got James in there to stick to Pulisic I reckon and that’s not a bad tactic but I thought we would go for Greenwood here and make hay while the sunshines.

I guess it’s wear them down then bring on Greenwood, Cavani and Pogba.

I don’t think it’s completely baffling to be honest in terms of tactics guys.

Expect to see this if we are losing.

    ——————Pogba——Fred————
    —————————Bruno——————
    —————————————Rashford
    ——Greenwood—Cavani—————-

    with Greenwood higher up.

I said going down the undroppable route. Of course he's going to have to come in and start but he certainly shouldn't be the first name on the team sheet.

That team is a bit lightweight but thankfully the bench is very strong.
Ohh ok yeah if Tuanzebes available he'll get games in but it'll all come down to who can stay fit imo.

Looks like he's going to go with keeping it tight for 60 and bringing on the likes of Pogba/Greenwood/DVB to finish them off again.

I was expecting this line up given Ole would have wanted to reward the players who did well at Newcastle and PSG. Scott and Fred were nailed on to start with Pogba to come off the bench.

Maguire was going to come back in if he was fit. James is our only LW if Rashford is up top. Fully expect Cavani to come in at 60 or so mins to replace James. Of of Scott or Fred comes off for Pogba depending on form/ tiredness.

let’s hope this is good enough to win...

we are not here to counter Chelsea at OT..having Mata and James out there should be considered a sackable offense with PP and vdb available..we all know RAshford does not do well as the lone striker. Sackable
And yet no matter how often you scream or moan, no one will sack Ole for you.

tough gig man, what you gonna do about it?

Mata been motm his last 2 games and made a huge difference, short memories some folk.
For many of our fans it is about who is cool and has best instagram... Not what they can bring to the team on the pitch from tactical point of view. I'm loving that Mata i starting. Well deserved.

Lampard gone 5 at the back which tells me he was fully expecting Ole to go that way too.

Let's see if Ole's decision is a masterstroke or mistake. Can't be doing with negativity before game even starts. We might play great.

I'm not happy with the starting eleven either, but lets play the game before we start sacking people. Okey?

Mata was absolutely immense agains Newcastle, so I don't know why you are complaining. Deserved a start against PSG but most likely needed to sit out since his legs can't take playing games with such a short notice between them.

I agree about James though, Telles should be on the bench and Maguire does not deserve starting.
It was one game, against a far weaker team. We've seen countless of crap performances from Mata over the years and I don't think he'll have much impact in a game like this, but hopefully I'm wrong.

Brave as feck lineup. Worried about Mata getting pinned back with Chilwell and James being anonymous

If Telles is injured, I’d have gone:

    DDG
    AWB Axel Maguire Shaw
    McT Fred
    Greenwood Bruno Pogba
    Rashford

I love James, but his and Lindelof’s inclusion are ludicrous. Mata’s is debatable.

Perhaps it tells us that Ole is currently prioritising the CL group stages over the league? We'll have a better starting 11 midweek than today.
perhaps - it’s also more important for us financially to get to the knockout phase, and we have a tough group

    Stupid stupid line up.
Im guessing subs will be Greenwood, Cavani and Pogba but 4-2-3-1 doesnt work for us at all.
You either go 3 at the back or diamond/4-2-2-2.
You do have an incredibly short memory.

4-2-3-1 Got us to third playing some incredible stuff.

People were chatting shit about our lineup prior to the PSG game. Chill out ffs. Not the lineup I would have picked either but let's see how we start.

I should have enjoyed the midweek high more, the state of this place if we go behind early, it'll get grim very quickly.
This place is full of losers and whiners . Sad lot really.

Heart sinks seeing Maguire against their attack. This could be another massacre.
Rashford Vs Silva won’t be just as much of a mismatch? Come on

Solskjaer’s bizarre fascination with this fecking 4231 is going to see him sacked very soon.

Mata and James to have stinkers.

Pogba, Greenwood and Cavani will be sent on to try and salvage something.

Oh how the tune has changed from the last game they played

Hopefully McFred will finally prove any remaining doubters wrong today. Would have gone Greenwood instead of James but hope James can have a good game today.

As underwhelming as the lineup is, there's a lot of match-winners on the bench. Bringing on quality with 30 minutes to go can often blow the opposition away.

If Chelsea are going to play mega-defensively, then I think we've chosen a decent lineup to go up against that. It all hinges on what we get out of James, because he is taking up a starting 11 spot. Considering some of those players that are on the bench, I think he has to count himself lucky to still be featuring, as he isn't really contributing as much.

Very surprised at that team I must say. Was not expecting a change away from a back 5. Fred and McTominay did well against PSG so not surprised to see them keep their place.

No Telles. Not even on the bench. I wonder if he's injured? Or they don't think he's up to speed for the League or something?

Very surprised James is playing. Mata did well against Newcastle so good for him to start. We've a strong looking bench too which could prove to be invaluable. Chelsea starting team looks stronger on paper.

The league cup lineup. No dressing it up today, if we don't win questions need to be asked. Daniel James shouldn't be on the bench, never mind starting one of the biggest games of the season. The bench options are ridiculous we have, on Ole this. I've been behind him and want him to do well but that lineup is shocking.

Newcastle was just a week ago and Chelsea is certainly not Newcastle. That lineup would have been down 1-2 had it not been for DDG save? so what is OGS seeing here??
