Another extremely tough encounter the German league leaders and champions league semi finals. Uniteds home form is a cause for concern have a feeling this game will end in a draw. 4 points from the first two games would be a decent return.

    Rashford cannot start(rested)
    Bruno cannot start (rested)
    Shaw cannot start (rested)
McTom might have picked up a slight knock
i like this. It should be enough to win and get freshness in before arsenal. It may also hopefully give ole another selection headache going forward. Hopefully we won’t be starting James in the next few games! Keen to see VDB again. Telles looked good too.

I like this side, and probably the exact 11 I’d pick.

    I’d like to see

    henderson, telles, Maguire, tuanzebe, Williams

    Matic, VDB, pogba,

    Martial, greenwood and Cavani.

nice squad rotation and still plenty of quality. This won’t be easy at all, they’re a better team than us but we have the individual quality.

We won’t be resting our best players against Leipzig, they are too good for that. I know our schedule is tough and players will get overwhelmed but we have to treat CL seriously.
Having Martial, Greenwood, vdB, PP instead of Bruno and Rashford should be more than enough to compensate, don't you think? we have seen vdb at the highest level of the UCL already.
IMO, with the win @PSG and the result against Chelsea, the Arsenal game has become more important than the Leipzig one. we could afford a draw against Red Bull. Arsenal has become a must-win imo.

I’d like to see a Matic, Pogba and Donny midfield three. I’d give Cavani a start, too.

We should set up to dominate this one in my opinion. Leipzig are tactically well drilled but don't have the individual stars PSG have up front. If we're to have any chance of progressing through the group, our players should be able to impose themselves on a game like this. One for Pogba to start.

Have they come across a side as defensively and atheletically strong as us but also with loads of players with exceptional individual qualities?

I don't doubt they will play better as a team and even force us into our half but at the same time I doubt we will get pressed/overrun into oblivion and we will be able to exploit gaps for counter attacking and in transition.

It's styles match up as far as I'm concerned. If Ole sets the team up same as PSG then it'd be a fairly even game imo with us the favourite :nervous:
Defensively very strong, I'm not quite sure what shape they will go with going into away Champions League games. They could play three at the back which include Konate but Naglesmann might see this as an opportunity to suffocate us high up the pitch. Which in hindsight might be a good thing because we play on the counter but I'm thinking more he'll play with a 4-1-4-1 with Sorleth leading the line who is quick and powerful and allows the midfield to run the lines between us.

Would you play Matic and Pogba?, I don't know much about Leipzig, but reading your post, feels like our two "speed merchants" would be tied in a knot by away team.
Definitely don't think Matic is suitable. I would personally play Pogba because he's effective with shielding and collecting the ball and has vision to try float direct balls into Martial/Rashford. I think they might allow us to have the ball but they will overcrowd us once the ball goes into the middle of the pitch. Naglesmann is a very quick and clever coach, If he sees it's not working after 20 minutes, he'll change shape to a 4-2-3-1 or a 3-5-2 and every player is comfortable in either system.

Need to give VDB a start here, probably give Bruno a bench go to be fresher for Arsenal.

    Start for Donny
    Start for Telles
    Goal for Cavani

Anything else and I'll be disappointed.

Think these are pretty average and we will put them away fairly comfortably. We haven’t lost any momentum with a draw against Chelsea, such a strange opinion that comes from a negative place.

Going by what I incessantly hear about the gulf in class between both managers, anything less than a 7-0 loss, I'd be very underwhelmed by Nagelsmann.

    If Ole wins though ...

I want to see Maguire paired with Tuanzebe, but wouldn't mind Lindelof. I think we can rest Victor though.

Fred Matic in midfield behind VdB and Pogba. Greenwood hopefully can play 60mins.

    Surely Dean's turn to play.
    Dean
    TFM -- Axel -- Maguire -- Telles
    VDB -- Matic -- Pogba
    Greenwood -- Cavani -- Martial

Rest Bruno and Rashford, and give these guys games to quickly get match sharpness, form and confidence. The more we got, the better it is for PL especially and in the long run.

Interesting thoughts. I haven't watch any games of Leipzig in full but if it's a fire vs fire type of game, I don't think we'll come out of it looking bad.

It's up to Ole to get the right setup and make us compete from the first minute. If McFred turn up, we need Martial, Rashford, Bruno and possibly Pogba to turn up for the quality when we have the ball.

Why would it be Henderson’s turn? We should angle to give out participation trophies. DDG has done nothing to warrant being dropped, Henderson will get his Carabao & FA starts in due time. If we beat Leipzig, then it’s almost four dead rubber games, especially with the back to back v. the Turkish team. That’s when Henderson should get a peek, not in what could be our most crucial group stage match.

We really need to start winning at home. I understand Ole's reluctance to go full throttle against Chelsea, because he can't afford more losses at home. It would have worked better had Lampard thought differently, but he did exactly the same.

But now we have to start to dominate games at home. RB Leipzig are a good side with a very good manager who manages to get the collective performing better than the sum of its parts. But individually we clearly have the better players. This is what we've been waiting for - us skeptics - seeing us be favourites, even against good teams, and take the initiative.

We have to start creating good habits. Winning at home. Capitalising on good performances (like PSG). Getting to 6 points before the two Istanbul games would be a huge cushion. Collecting 4 points from those matches would put us through, in all likelihood.

I'm hoping for a top performance and I am also expecting it. Wouldn't be surprised if Ole goes again with wing backs.

Would like to see Pogba, VDB, Cavani and Telles all start this game, that should be enough quality to win and be interesting tos ee what they can do, but lord knows what Ole will put out. Could do with a home win anyway.

What kind of statement is that?

You realize this is last year's CL semi-finalist and current Bundesliga leader?

If Leipzig doesn't have a shocker, we'll have to bring our absolute A game to win this.

I think the team I was commenting on could actually win the match? I know how good Leipzig are but I still fancy us to at least get a draw at home.

Of course it "could" get a win, but your post was actually underestimating Leipzig in my opinion. This is a very important game between two evenly matched teams. Win it and we have a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. Lose it and suddenly it's a three-horse race for two spots again. You have to play your very best team here. If anything, I would rest a few players against Arsenal, since they're arguably weaker than Leipzig and only have two days of rest themselves.

We should be winning both games. Hopefully this is where we start turning our home form around this season.

Top of Bundesliga and unbeaten so far. Only dropped points once. I don't know if they'll be a pushover; they'll probably be tougher then PSG. Plus, when I saw them last season, their style of play was something that would cause us problems.

Out if interest did anybody see PSG vs Dijon last night. They won 4-0 in a completely undeserved scoreline. Not only that but Dijon, who has such a low standard of player, cut them to ribbons at times and squandered some glorious chances. They actuality broke them down far, far easier than we did. Fortunately for PSG, Dijons pub league finishing was matched in their defending.
