I saw this overview from Dinnery and it struck me that the teams that appears to be very well run (Wolves, Man City, LFC, Leicester) also does quite good here.

We are also the team in the PL with highest burden of muscle injuries (19/20):

It also made me think about Tuanzebe and Laird. Two exceptional talents that have lost so much valuable time due to injuries. And even Rashford with his back injury. It is a bit of a worry. Our players health is one of our biggest assets, and we need to make sure we do everything we can to take care of them. We also owe it to them.

Considering we pay our players £250 mill + we should be able to spend quite alot to make sure we maximize their potential. The last day I have also been thinking that we should invest in their mental health. Liverpool recently hired a psychologist part-time. Considering the stress the players face, and maybe particular the younger ones, that could be crucial. I'm sure you could easily defend such an investment not only from an ethical point of view, but also looking at it like a cynical investment.

It surely needs to be a focal point to the club. An increase in muscle injuries was to be expected, when transitioning from poor fitness regime. Furthermore, mean used on its own is a poor statistic when assessing a relatively small sample size with high variance.

Probably a good point. That being said, I think we have come out poorly quite a few times on these types of stats. I also think it was something Mourinho complained about (and pointed out that it was even worse during van Gaals time here).

It is also remarkable to see how often the past two seasons Liverpool has been able to field the same 11 players compared to us. Especially considering the intensity of their game.

I didn't follow the discourse back when LVG and Jose were in charge, with their focus (or not) training regimes and medical advancements.

Liverpool is an absolute anomaly. There was an interesting post the other day about the advancements being made by the doctor in charge at Bayern München (a bulk of his research was apparently done when he was at Bayern 04). I guess a lot of his papers will be available with a subscription at the right publicist. Will the British take notes from the Germans?

Do you think it's anything to do with the "asthma" that over 60% of their first team have and are therefore allowed to use an inhaler which is proven to be performance enhancing?

That's why when people count the $$s we have spent on the defence in the last few years, it isn't the full picture. Most of that money has gone into players who are never available. Injuries have been a big issue for us in the post-Fergie period. Something that needs urgent resolution.

It's why I like Maguire. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he is very reliable. Rarely injured.
