I kept hoping VVV would score 1, do a proper over the top celebration as if they won the league then proceed to quickly get the ball out of the net to mount their comeback.

Takes me back to my pub team days when we used to smash opponents like that.

..

Ok, we got. Smashed like that.

Great performance by Ajax. Dutch media though. PSV wins 10-0 against Feyenoord; ‘disrespectful’ ‘no respect’ ‘should’ve stopped’. Ajax wins 13-0: ‘ruthless’. Sigh.

 they couldn't have stopped scoring even if they wanted. That defending was worse than what I can put up. And I'm an overweight 35 yr old. Don't think they were even trying.

Not that surprising, Netherlands is a small country, the bottom half teams are equivalent to lower divisions in other countries.

Yeah, the neverending collective media hard-on for Ajax is something else...

Except it rarely actually happens that they get smashed with this kind of score (or anything like it).

Saw goals, ref gave a soft Pen at 9 0, and Huntelaar scores it and then goes get the ball to take it back to the centre like they're behind in the game . Ruthless performance!
Huntelarr is still going ? Christ he must be about 65 years old, surely

True story; my ex neighbour was crying himself too sleep on that day. I could hear him crying and screaming like a little girl and his wife comforting him. And he's a big bulky guy working construction mind you.

I think it had to do somewhat with the situation Feyenoord was in. Always one of the biggest clubs in the Netherlands, First Dutch club to win the European Cup, but had been struggling for a while. The 10-0 was just so painful. For VVV it barely matters but aside of some hardcore Ajax fans most Dutch people felt sympathy for Feyenoord at the time.

Did people always erroneously spell it Wenlo or why are they called VVV Venlo?

Really annoys me that for some reason. Like when they were 20-0 up could they not just relax? no respect what so ever.

what sort of team loses 37-0? I could pick up randoms from the park and not lose by anywhere near that. Why were they even paired with such a team? just makes the game look like a complete shambles.

The coach of the team who won 37-0 needs to have a look at themselves. Got my blood boiling this tweet

They were originally called VVV (Venlose Voetbal Vereniging: Venlo FC). Lots of clubs in the Netherlands in the last two decades have added their town's name to the club name, usually to get some kind of municipal funding. Hence now also names like Heracles Almelo, PSV Eindhoven, TOP-Oss, and whatever else you'll get to see. (But not PEC Zwolle, actually; different story.)

I know i was the assistant coach of a team with a 1-41 defeat :wenger:
I had my time at coaching too, at futsal. Was a GK coach at a U14 team at Lisbon a few years ago. We took some nasty defeats as well, even though the fact of having 5 players on the pitch makes life easier on organizing the team when compared to football. There's little we can do when the available talent pool simply is not enough to match U14 teams who have a support from a professional managed club.

Yeah, adding a placename to a club's name tends to make little sense. Also M(aastrichtse) V(oetbal) V(ereniging) Maastricht.
And by the way Venlo have won 4-2 against Den Bosch in the KNVB Beker Cup :)
Good! DB are my (former?) local rivals.

And since I'm anyway on a long pedantry streak in this thread: beker = cup.
