Take away those annoying glorified moments where Gerrard stood up and dragged a shite Liverpool team to a memorable victory and look at the problems Liverpool and England managers had with finding him an actual position.

He was never trusted to be a central midfielder because his positional sense and his defensive qualities were never right for it so he was put out to one side with zero defensive responsibility and an ability to roam wherever he wanted, play Hollywood balls and occasionally come up with a highlights moment to save their rotten lot. Both for club and country he was shunted wherever he posed the least risk to defence but where he could affect the game going forwards. His best season came as a second striker effectively behind Torres in 2008-09.

Pogba it seems is the same. We can't find a position in midfield at all that gets the most out of him (short of finally trying 4-3-3), he's only good for Hollywood balls and the occasional bit of magic and he's a fecking liability positionally and defensively.

Have we got the same player minus the 'ohhhhh you beautyyyyyyyy' moments?

Today it was immediately apparent that we had to shoehorn him in somewhere and he doesn't fit anywhere.

Possibly. More likely this United team and manager matches that shite Liverpool era

Yeah, but with about 20% of the energy, tenacity and fight.

Pogba is more technically talented, but Gerrard was far better, and I hate saying that.

Delete this thread. Gerrard was ten times the player Pogba is.

If we would get Pogba to produce a fraction of what Gerrard did for Liverpool it would be great.

The comparison flatters Pogba to a diabolical degree.

But yes, if you took away the bits the made Gerrard excellent then they become a lot closer.

I always enjoyed watching Gerrard play & I can put my neutral brain on and I think he was great. A player if he was ours would be regarded as a legend- just the long distance goals, where do we see that from now? Bruno doesnt even do it never mind Pogba. The guy played with some of the shittest footballers in the world.

It doesnt matter who you play Pogba with - he ends up showing his weaknesses.

Nah. Gerrard was a match winner for Liverpool.

Pogba is the one costing us matches by giving stupid penalties.

We're really bigging up Pogba if we're putting him in the same category as Gerrard. Coming from somebody who immensely disliked Gerrard, even discounting the Liverpool links.

Gerrard actually delivered. Pogba isn't fit to lace Gerrard's boots.

Pogba might have more talent, but that's all pointless when he applies it so badly.

Gerrard was easily a better player than him. It's not even close.

Pogba isn't fit to lace Gerrard's boots. Gerrard more or less actually turns up when you need him

This is a joke right ?

Gerrard was shit in his last few years sure, but in his prime he's 10 times the player Pogba will ever be.

Gerrard's MO was dragging a sh!t team through his influence.
That's exactly what we need right now.

Where Gerrard wouldn't have fared as well, would have been alongside equal or better players, like if he'd joined us in peak Fergie years.

Looking over my shoulder.
One of the (terrible) Borwefian pundits said that Ole made a tactical change tonprevent Arsenal as much space on the wings in the second, which worked very well. However, you cannot tactically make up for brainfarts like Pogba made. He needs to be dropped and sold.
Yes, he is a little similar to Gerrard, but Gerrard was 10x the player and actually was versatile. Pogba isn’t versatile and he doesn’t lift the team.

Gerrard could affect the game though, even if he was a defensive liability.

Pogba is just a dancing queen who fools people that spinning around has something to do with being a good footballer.

Hate Gerrard but come on, he was twice the player Pogba is. Stupid comparison, on performances you should be comparing Pogba to Fletcher. For me Fletcher did more for us!

I dislike Gerrard as much as any MUFC fan, but he was a much more important and influential player for his team than Pogba ever has been.

Funny, when Gerrard was played in a three he was an utter tour de force. When Pogba is played in a three, he can barely retain the ball.

It's horrendous saying this but Pogba isn't fit enough to lace Gerard's boots.

Yes Pogba has more natural ability and technical skills but that's all useless when his work rate is 10% of Gerrard's.

That's up there with the maddest posts I've seen on here. As much as I hate Gerrard he actually stood out in shite Liverpool teams he dragged them to wins and trophies . Pogba on the other hand is just nothing

What the feck is this thread
Don’t compare one of the all time Pl greats to some show pony who turns up once every half a dozen games.
Gerrard spent years dragging Liverpool through. Pogba is literally the complete opposite.

Pogba is better than gerrard at dribbling when he’s not out of breath.

For everything else Gerard was better and is 3 times the player pogba is.

Don't make me defend Steven Gerrard, please, he was a very good player. Regardless takeaway the talent he was committed, you can't say the same about Paul Pogba.
