That Maguire challenge on Digne

Legit, Maguire gets Kung fu kicked by two people but we don’t mention that?
I totally agree with this, in fact it looked like Pickford raked Maguire across his manhood. Maguire's challenge on Digne was clean in my view and Everton took the chance to mope about it. We're fortunate it was offside anyway though because the ref wasn't great today.

Pickford should have been sent of for van Dyke so that could have been a red for excessive force. But ref didn't think it was. Marginal.

I wouldn't have been too surprised to see a pen given

Sure he got a bit of the ball but could've seriously injured the player too

I'm surprised he didn't get a red for excessive force. I think he was a bit lucky there myself; I have seen players sent off for similar offences.

Great challenge? The feck are you lot on about. :houllier:
Everton have been playing like thugs for weeks and start whinging as soon as it gets given back to them. That challenge never happens if Pickford and Keane don't clatter Maguire.

Tackle was great. Infact, they became lesser Knuts shortly after that incident.

He was lucky for the offside, otherwise it would have been a pen easily. There was a clear contact and the VAR would have called it a pen, and it would have been different story entirely.

I thought it was a pen tbh... getting the ball while going through the man is still a foul anywhere on the pitch.

Was offside though so moot point.

Both players were sprinting full-tilt to the ball, Maguire got there first and won it cleanly. The collision afterwards doesn't matter. Perfectly legal and strong tackle.

He was saved by the player being offside. It’s a clear penalty and a yellow card if not, but VAR doesn’t give yellow cards of course.

And to those saying it was a «great» tackle, there is no such rule saying as long as you touch the ball, you can murder a player afterwards. He barely touched the ball and makes contact with the player with too much force, studs out. Textbook penalty, but a few cm in our favor luckily.

Bloody hell, if we're going to have threads about ball winning challenges that aren't two footed, don't cripple someone (although the soft Digne was trying to pretend he was) and are just well won balls, then this site is going to be a painful read going forward.

Textbook penalty?! Not a chance.

Absolutely not, you are factually wrong, go read the rules before commenting with such confidence. Maguire clatters Digne, don’t make it sound like it was a 50/50. Ridiculous.

Cracking tackle from Maguire. Clearly got the ball. You don’t see enough challenges like that anymore.

It's like some people have such an outrageous downer on Maguire that even after a great team win, and a good performance from him, they still have to try and find an angle to attack him.

This is my position on it. There was one camera angle I saw where he was very clearly first on the ball and changed its trajectory. Before that I wasnt sure; after that I had no doubt. VAR got it right.

Lucky the player was offside, otherwise you’d see the reaction from the referee. You know, those who know the rules and don’t just pretend to know the rules on an internet forum with huge bias. Woeful tackle, «touching the ball first» makes no difference.

Do we actually know what should happen when the flag is up too late and there's a red card foul?

Looks like it doesn't count and we understand that the player, who unfortunately gets injured, has simply a bad luck, right?
Great tackle. Got ball 100% and took out player after. It is football, not basketball.

To the thread opener and all the 'neutral' United fans present here: What happened when Luke Shaw was brutally tackled in that CL match? Was it declared a foul?

If that hadn't been called an offside, the entire result could have been different now, and the whole mood would have been different.

So yeah deserves to be talked on.

He didn’t just touch it though he won it and knocked it out of play. I agree that touching the ball isn’t always winning it but he got enough to win.

Touching the ball first doesn't allow you to brutalise someone, but there has to be an acceptance that if you slide for a ball you will touch the player as well.
That wasn't a tackle where someone had been brutalised. It was just what happens when a 15 stone player slides and a 9 stone player is involved.

You're acting like the incident was akin to that Tottenham one the other day, where a player got a hairline touch on the bal. Maguire won it, and sent the ball clear.
