Maybe (s)he was laughing at the idea of getting enough money from a Pogba sale to cover a Grealish purchase.
It won't cover the entirety but I imagine we'd get offers of around £50m. Are we saying Grealish will go for around £90m?

I'm pretty sure your original reaction to those laughing smileys was correct; I was just trying to offer an alternative.

Also, now that Grealish has signed that new contract, I think they'd ask for more than that. sadfaceemoji:

Sell Pogba.. buy Denis Zakaria.. That would make a first choice midfield 3 of... Zakaria... Fred... Fernandes... Thus it would leave... Matic... McTominay... van de Beek as cover.

Why have you omitted all those trophies he won with Juve, where he was the most important player and carried them to a CL final as well? No doubt going to win at least a dozen more trophies after he leaves too.

Far in the future, people won't question Paul's credentials because his heroics in Serie A and his leadership in French NT speak for themselves... They'll only question his naive decision to spend his prime with mediocre United side.
Fully agreed. It was a naive and awful decision but he was also sold lies by Woodward and promised a top team would be built around him with a top manager. I understand his frustration.

not only was he the star of the Juventus team at 23 but the whole team was built around him and they even gave him their sacred number 10 shirt in his final year, he ended by top assisting the league and leaving with two trophies. The Juventus director is still talking nearly every day in the media about his return and without a global pandemic they were ready to bring him back. The big gap he left has still not been replaced.

And then he carried a average United team to the EL trophy while scoring in the final and was named the player of the touament- still the only relevant trophy United have won after Ferguson left.

Not to forget his last full season he was named into the Premier League team of the season playing in the 6th best team and registered the best attacking metrics in England for a midfielders in his favored postion to add to his 3 inclusions in the team of the year in Italy. And of course there is no real need to mention his stellar exploits with the NT..

When pepple say he has underachieved it means at the level of GOAT midfielders, not normal ones

Our strategy must be built around Bruno, who is about the only consistent and dedicated player. Fred + McTom are the only pairing the bring the best out of Bruno. I am not writing Pogba off, but his playing style, as well as heart, seem to be incompatible with Bruno. So only remaining question is, how much.
Being realistic with how long he had left on his contract and his performances over the last couple of seasons, I'd consider it a success if we got £35-£40m for him in the summer. Anybody on here thinking we'll be getting more for a mediocre player with a season left on his contract is kidding themselves. Personally, I see him sitting out that last year and going for free the season after as i don't think anybody would be willing to pay £35m for him when you factor in he'll be free to negotiate a free in the following January and will want massive wages. Our chance to flog him for a good fee disappeared with the last window.

personally Id not be bothered if we let him go on a free, get rid of the drama and the forking out ridiculously ott wages for a constantly underperforming and disappointing player and move on.

But the thing is if he starts performing again everyone will want him to stay.
This post just shows how bad our fans currently rate him  And how much we want him gone

Tbh if he would play well regularly I'd happily keep him. We surely need good players who perform. But that's a very big if.

You're probably right. I was factoring in his new contract with that estimation but who knows nowadays! I reckon he signed that deal with the agreement that he'll be allowed to leave for a reasonable sum, though. I can't imagine he'll be happy if they price him out of a move and trap him using his contract. I think (hope?) it was a 'stay another year, we'll double your wage and you can leave next year' sort of arrangement. Him and Bruno would be too much to fecking handle!!

My expectation now is that at least one of Pogba or Solskjaer will be gone by the Summer, if not both.

Pogba might stay if we have a new manager, the player will win this time.

Juventus(who`ve wanted to bring Pogba back for a while and still do) as it stands are selling Dybala in the summer which frees up ridiculous wages and from the looks of it they are likely to spend 45m on Morata who was even more mediocre at Atletico than Pogba has been for us. We may not view him the same way but other teams will see him as a very marketable player, world cup winner and top class midfielder on his day. 35-40m even with just a year left is too small reckon Utd can get closer to 50m if they really drive a hard bargain

I've defended Pogba for years, but if I could trust we'd invest the money back into the squad and use it towards a player who is more consistent and fixes issues we have, at this point sadly I'd do it. I just can't ever see him getting to a level with us that makes the hassle and just exhausting crap around him worthwhile.

All good mate :)
Grealish isn't an upgrade on Pogba thou and doesn't answer all the questions.

Am I missing something here? Everything @el3mel said is true. Pogba has been here four years, was our biggest signing ever and still finds himself on the bench. It clearly hasn't gone as planned.
You forget when Pogba was our top goalscorer as a Midfielder. He is an extremely talented player, the problem lays with our Defence and DM, especially our defence, they aren't good enough and require too much protection. Pogba doesn't have the displine to play just in front of the defence, but going forward he is outstanding at times. As G.Neville says ' We need Pogba in the opposition's box, not our own '.

Yes.

There are far more useful players we could purchase with the Pogba money but i would suggest not having such a huge ego and distraction would improve the dressing room spirit.

Do you think Pogba would be as effective if we swapped him with Bruno? Gave him the necessary support behind him that he needs? No, is the answer. He hasn't been able to do it consistently since we signed him. Someone has come in and is doing a better job than him He's done here, whether you like it or not.

Pogba versus the manager isn't a thing. It doesn't exist. Ole never says anything other than great things about him. He isn't being picked because he isn't performing, and we usually look better when he doesn't start. Simple as that.

We have tried to accomodate him everywhere. Any formation, you name it. And he still is inconsistent.

Hopefully.

I think Ole knows, he must get rid of Pogba before Pogba gets rid of him.

Bruno is obsessed with winning. Pogba is obsessed with what colour he will dye is hair for his next round of Instagram snaps.

There's only room at Utd for 1 of them.

The bolded bit is absaloute nonsense. Mourhino was the manager when he was signed, the bolded bit suggests Ed promised him we would sack Jose and bring in a better manager if he signed. Pogba was happy to sign with Jose as manager and with the players we had. That's just yet another one of the many excuses we re so sick and tired of hearing.

He underachieved at united relative to his price tag.....the most expensive footballer in the world. He is up there as one of our worst ever signings in my view.

Making it into the PL team of the season once in 5 years doesnt even come close to the least that should be expected when you break the world transfer record and for a player of his talent. How that is some kind of achievement to be listed is beyond me.

That Juve director who is still talking about him every day is more than welcome to him.

Talented? Undoubtedly. Just not suited to disciplined play, has poor ball retention skills and is genuinely inconsistent in terms of form, work rate and application.

Pogba is great in the Italian league where it's all nice and slow and no-one likes tackling a man with a nice haircut.

I have been a big fan of his but it just doesn't work. We aren't good enough to carry cherry on the cake luxury players. It's not that kind of league. Even de Bruin has to put in a shift, which Pogba doesn't seem that keen on.

Some make excuses for Pogba and say he is meant to be attacking and not defending. I may be wearing rose colored glasses but Ranaldo did it at both ends. That's what 100 million should by you, a complete player.

We shouldnt even be considering. We should sold him.

Short term pain long term gain. Otherwise the next primadonnas would take us for a mug.

Dortmund stand their ground and it serve them well. Seldom we heard their player dreaming to play for others. Even id they eventually did they remain professional on the pitch

You are definitely trolling at this point. I don't think I've come across posts or opinions from anyone as comical as yourself. I don't think you even watch him play to be honest. To be so far up a players ass should embarrassing for you.
I'm all on for positive comments regarding footballers, when warranted. But your posts in regards to Paul Pogba and his career is just delusional to say the least.

Why? Because I thought anyone reading this thread would have had the basic common sense to understand it was focused on Paul's time at Man Utd.

Did not progress at all as a player with us or at least not nearly enough (obviously lack of quality coaching during those years on our side didn't help). At this point I would sell him to the highest bidder, let's have some fresh blood here.

read Carraghers assessment it's on the money.
Cash in or exchange for a cog that spins fluidly

very mobile , physically dominant, ball winner and passer needed

People mention Zakaria what's his passing like?

Pogba should be used to fund a new defensive midfielder next season.

I love him but it's clear he's not part of the plans and going forward, especially if we continue with Ole's default 4231.

He's had a mixed time at the club (performed a lot better than some of the players still here), and I'm glad he came back but I think next season would be the right time to move him on.

Thought that it was a mistake to bring him back in the first place, albeit his performances for Juventus and France made him look like one hell of a player. Having said that ,I have no agenda against the guy and really wanted him to succeed. By all accounts a good guy in dressing room etc. and I don't care either way about all the social media stuff.

But........on the pitch where it counts the performances and inconsistences mean that to my mind he is a luxury good not worth the keeping. If he was happy to start on the bench every game and come on as a potential game changer, then maybe but as a starter, no. Think we should take whatever money we can get, while we can get it and move forward.

Under no circumstances should he be given a new contract as it only strings the situation along further

It is the way he plays. He is a very talented player obviously and early on his career here he was playing well. Then he started this flirting with Real and he is not doing well at all. He loses the ball not because he tries a forward pass or try to create something. Usually he gets dispossesed because he hangs onto the ball for too long or tries something fancy on his own. It is not like Mata who gets pushed off the ball. Pogba is too big and strong for it. He loses it due to his own fault. I think he does not want to be at United. Trust me the moment he leaves he will say this.
We should have bought Grealish even for the ridiculous amount Villa was asking and sold Pogba. If United had got rid of him along with Jones, Rojo and Romero we could have got Grealish and saved on the wages. Put Fred on the right midfield and Grealish on the left and Bruno in the middle and we would have got a extremely good midfield.

I bet Pogba is influential in our dressing room and keeps the spirit up, it would be a shame to lose that.

Having said that, I feel his days are numbered at United because if he can't hold down a first team spot then he would accept he has to move on.

The guy was on an upward trajectory when he re-signed for us. But winning the WC must have halted his desire to improve. He could’ve been class but to me it doesn’t looked likes he’s worked on his game since 2018. He’s regressed and has been a massive flop. Average, inconsistent, wasteful, glimpses of brilliance and one, yes one, world class performance for us and it wasn’t even a full match (45 mins v’s City).

It’s a shame as he had all the potential, the vision, the skill, the power, the drive, all of it. But he didn’t have that certain thing the French call, oh, I don’t know what, that the top, world class players have to better themselves over and over. He reached the pinnacle of trophies in 2018 but plateaued and has not bettered himself one iota in years and he’ll be remembered in years to come not for the player he was but for the off the pitch stuff and haircuts which is sad really.

Should’ve sold him 2 years ago as I can’t see any club paying top whack for a player that’s getting worse by the week. Cut our losses, get him off the books and make him another team’s problem - they and their fans can give him every excuse in the World for four more years.

I think he's one of those players you want to add on top of your title challenging team. Because it looks to me that he plays better with better team mates and not the player you can rely on to single handedly improve a team.

With a team ready to challenge for trophies, his contributions will be worth it and he will face a different kind of pressure, one which he seems to relish. As for now he's a bit of luxury. I'd move him on whenever possible and play vDB in place of him if needed.

Fifty-eight billion caf points for correct spelling/usage of 're-signed'.
