Got up early this morning to take care of an errand and be home by kick-off.
Was thinkink same yesterday, will wake up early and do this, this and that, and will be home on time. Planed everything. Then yesterdays game commentator named games to be played tomorrow (today) and I thought, "he is wrong", thank God I checked.

I hope AVB reads that and plays a blinder, preferably scoring too!
Yeah. I really thought it was totally uncool for Hass to boast about how clever he is exploiting our “shit right back”. I don’t think AWB is as bad as he thinks. And frankly Southampton can use whatever clever little plan they like but it counts for nowt if we win. Really hope we do and really hope AWB has a great game.

I don’t know what’s come over me. I’m desperate to smash these feckers.

Wonder if we'll see these tactics again from Southampton? (2nd paragraph onwards)

This was the game where they literally left AWB in like 20 yards of space all game.
Not just AWB, opposing teams have been doing this for years, against Valencia, Young, Darmian. It's why we've all been crying out for a proper right winger since LVG sold Nani.

Starting to have a feeling that we'll win. When we go into a game expecting the opposition to give us a tough game, it usually ends up the opposite.

Ings and Redmond both being out does shift the odds significantly.

The disrespect from those guys. Press us like Leipzig please, we will make you pay.

Pressing would be normal and should be normal for us to deal with now. It is the only way to go foward.

I am just hoping that our forwards will be on their game.

This game is the weird "we'll be a bit shit and lose/draw" feeling.

    Watch us win now.

It's as easy as that. That's nothing more than basic scouting and it's a simple solution to give us problems.

I noticed Bruno drifted to the right a bit in the last game and VDB brings in a different sort of dynamic, so maybe we can do something differently here.

It seems that McT is out? Any news?

In that case I'd go with Bruno and Fred as our pivot and VDB up front. It seems crazy but imo Bruno can be a really good 8, even as a 6. Against popular belief I'm of the opinion he can play very safely and tidy when required. And he's really good against pressing as well. He's also quite fast and has a good tackle in him.

Of course he'll be less dangerous playing there but he has some great long pass which VDB doesn't. It would benefit our fast strikers and VDB, who is pretty good with his movements into the box and scoring.

People won't like the idea of playing Bruno out of his most effective position, I don't either. But imo that's the best solution considering the available options.

We can keep our 4231 or go with a 41212 like this:
    -------------------------------Matic
    ------------------Bruno---------------Fred
    --------------------------------VDB
    -------------------Rashford-------Martial

Pogba's got one of those convenient injuries players get when the manager wants to drop them.
Completely agree. Gonna say it here, Pogba is not injured. He doesn’t want to play for us, and Ole doesn’t want him to play for us. Win-win if an injury is faked.

It's not crazy, but Bruno hurts more the opposition when he is not too far from the box, so no, we want him up there, not as a 8. A full fit Pogba is the real solution for that role but until then, it's probably a "more fit than Pogba" VdB who could be there. Nevertheless, we also have PSG on Wed if I am not mistaken, so we will probably rotate a bit. The only one who seems to be able to keep playing is Fred. Not sure what he is eating at home to have such stamina, really. I also think Greenwood will come back to the side to provide some goal threat from the right side, which hopefully helps AWB.

Stop saying that please, you really don't know. Last time, the guy even had to take pictures to prove he was injured. Pogba is recovering, he's not in full condition. And we need a fully fit Pogba in the team so that we can play with high intensity in the way we want, and until then, some others are taking his spot. It's as simple as that.

I’m a bit worried about the 2 CM’s, both are so bad when being pressed. For that reason Van de Beek makes more sense, the same way he made light work of Leipzig.
Again, a fully fit Matic is very good with the pressing and when pressed. Fred is not bad either, he doesn't lose the ball anymore as he plays his first intention in advance in his head to not be caught up by surprise. When Matic is there, Fred can even counter press the opposition players higher up on the pitch. But it requires a fully fit and capable Matic.

If not, Scott helps Fred to do that better. But it's weird because with Scott, sometimes, Fred plays deeper, sometimes, he goes upfront, it's hard to tell. I think the dynamic is just a bit different with Scott.

You people are really weird. In what world is Solskjaer going to willingly go down to just 3 CMs available for a hectic schedule.

Personally I think it would be unlikely. He surely needs to get a bit fitter first.
It seems strange reading through this thread at the amount of you who are worried about Saints. Is it about where you see Man Utd are at the moment or about how you think Saints have improved?

You were the best team we played last season...based on that performance at OT I fully expect you to finish top four.

Think it would be a mistake not to start with Cavani up top, defenders will much prefer to see the static version of Martial when they’re pressing hard.

I'm optimistic. They like to have the ball and they often take risks with it. It suits our favourite game-plan and our hard-working/highly energized midfield of McT and Fred (kind of) picks itself. We'll have our chances to win this one.

Against pressing teams it's key to have bodies in midfield, who are mobile and good on the ball. I would play a midfield three of Fred, VdB and Bruno and instruct the latter to play further back with his midfield. Up front in the middle you need someone who will hold onto the ball and is able to turn or pass with his back to goal, and then have counter attacking threats as well.

    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    VdB Fred Bruno
    Mason Martial Marcus

Early sunday kick-off against a high tempo, in-form, energetic smaller club. What could go wrong.

Less than 4 hours left now, isn't it? The pressure is mounting... win and we should close the gap with the top.

I hope i'm wrong but i'm fully expecting to see VDB benched, Matic alongside Fred and the corpse of Mata reappearing on the right.

    4. Not 3. And until we hit an injury crisis where Pogba needs to come back, then he will.

Still, that can't be real. Ole does what's best for the club, not for himself, he's said it multiple times. Pogba being available is still what's best for the club. You want him to be a game changer at least, and use him basically.

I think we should go with 3 at the back. Our current double pivot options will be vulnerable defensively if we go with the 4-2-3-1.

    DDG
    Awb Tuanzebe Maguire Lindelof Telles
    VdB Fred
    Bruno
    Rashford Martial

If he really doesn't want to play for United, why does he not do the only honest thing he has done since he has been at OT and put in a transfer request.
