The replies to the tweet are scarily close to some of the comments on here these days. I used to think the quality of commentary here was better than the inane imbeciles on social media but it’s hard to tell the difference nowadays

Interestingly a win today and in the game in hand weekly takes us a couple points off top.

Looking forward to todays game. He has a chance to win some fans over. A good performance and we're heading in the right direction. Won't be easy againt Soton which will make a win even more impressive.

I can't stand these short term potentials and consequences - as if all will be nirvana if we beat Liverpool in one game, or as if all will be flames if we lose to Fulham.

Judge the manager and squad over the medium term - two seasons at least. Ole has already had a season, so let this second play out.

That's not to say "he's doing fine, change nothing" because I'm not sure if we're making sustained progress... We'll see.

So if the rumours are true, we will begin negotiating an extension to Solskjaer’s contract in the new year. Do we never fecking learn?

Great news if true. Surely we will have to be in a positive position after this gruesome fixture list. But shows the club is committed to the rebuild project. Good work Ole!

That's the point. Then people will talk about Pep and Zidane very conveniently forgetting that they kept winning trophies from the onset of their management career while Ole has been in management for some time now.
It's crazy to think that Real or Barcelona would have kept Zidane or Pep if they had not won anything for 2 years since they started.
Pep would have been kept beyond 2 years I feel by any competent board even if he didn't win. What he was doing was very evident from the beginning and what everyone saw on the pitch was beautiful and entertaining.
Zidane had to keep on winning as I never found his Real Madrid to be that easy on the eye. This would apply to Ole as well. Ole needs to start winning soon and continue winning as the football is dire most of the times.

It’s not great news. It’s stupidity of the highest order.

We made the same mistake with Mourinho and ended up paying him millions more in compensation when he was sacked.

What’s the rush? It’s not like any top clubs will be looking to poach him away.

He doesn’t deserve a contract renewal at the moment. We play awful football and are going nowhere at the moment.

if he gets us top four again and we progress far in the cups, then open contract extension negotiations in the summer!

On a side note, would you be so positive if it was Roy Hodgson or Slaven Bilic that was our manager rather than a a player legend?

What a strange post. My opinion is Ole is doing a fine job, and the club confirming that could only be positive for the club, players and most fans.
surely there have to be a pick up in form up til then, so if he signed a new contract in April. It only means we did. Have no idea what Hodgson or anyone else have to do with anything.

I don't think so. He would have been sacked by Barca if he didn't win anything in his first two years. Now he already has credit in the bank because he has won so many trophies and his teams play good football.
Ole never had done so.

I don't agree with some of your post but I think the bolded bit is spot on, no rush at all and we'd be wise taking our time and weighing up our options. Even if top teams were lining up to sign him he's at his dream job, I doubt anything could make him give it up so the ball's in our court regarding negotiations.

How many years is this rebuild going to take? We are about three signings or one transfer window away from fixing the holes in the squad. There's absolutely no reason to extend Ole's contract right now

My comment was relating to equally poor coaches. Solskjaer is a Hodgson and Bilic level manager. Some Fans won’t accept this because he’s a club legend in a playing capacity. But it’s the truth.

Brian Robson is one of my favourite ever players. Same with Roy Keane. I wouldn’t want them anywhere near the United managers job either as they are both awful managers.

if he signs in April and then gets sacked a few months later, the club will have to pay 3-4 times as much compensation out to him as they would under this existing contract.

Giving him a new contract right now would be total incompetence.

He won’t get a new contract. But I can see his team asking what’s going on he hasn’t got long left.

Not Oles fault. We are outplaying them and doing our best to miss open goals.

We are not outplaying them, they are gifting us chances but we can't score. That is different than outplaying.
