Yeah I'm not sure I can remember any forward like Martial "developing" those goalscoring instincts like pundits like to talk about every now and then. Rather than Martial being able to learn from him, playing alongside him will just free up Martial to do what he does best. Cavani is totally comfortable spending most of the game away from the ball running into empty spaces, while Martial has always gravitated towards the ball. It just means that when one of Rashford or Martial are injured, they won't be stuck up top without any creative support and without the ability to act as a one-man attack. We were absolutely dire when we played with just the one of them last year, and weren't much better today. Greenwood's breakthrough helped a little with that but he just doesn't occupy defenders so Rashford is too easy to mark. Cavani occupies the defence and can make use of their creativity too.
Rooney did. It's certainly possible, it definitely depends on the player though, their drive, their ability to learn.

Completely offtopic from today's game, but he looks like Billy from Predator. I can't unsee it.

Couldn’t see Martial or Marcus scoring either of those goals. Pleasantly surprised by him as a signing so far.
If they're smart they would learn from him. That's what I would do if I were them. I'd be watching him like a hawk!
It's good for them to have the competition.

I don't know about that, didn't take VVD long to become the best defender the Premier League had ever known...according to Liverpool-fans ofcourse.
Sorry I didn't see the white print. :D

What a game he had! The movement was absolutely top class and Southampton had no clue how to handle him. Shows the gulf in class between him and their defence. We should be ahead of Southampton in every aspect to be honest if we want compete for the league at some stage.

hope our other front three learn as much as possible from him. It’s something you can’t keep teaching day in day out. Natural ones look at these things and pick up immediately.

He is a beautiful man. So composed and professional at all times. Even when he isn't scoring or assisting, his aura on the pitch is something else to witness. He walks with the confidence of a man who has won several battles and is just walking around inspecting his troops.

I am heartened to see him maintain his fitness, energy, and drive to continue to produce at this level during the twilight of his career. If he can give us a few seasons of this then he will surely become one of my favorite players. Immense respect for what he brings to the table.

He should be the first name on the team sheet going forward.

That high leaping header that went just wide of his earlier in the second half was beautiful as well. I love what I'm seeing. Hope he can maintain it. Give the man service and this will happen.

Diving headers are few and far between these days with the death of quality pure strikers. Cavani scores two in one half.

I'd let the beautiful bastard shag my missus, want the kids to have goatees and flowing locks

Should be starting as often as he can at his age. Shows what we can do when we have a focal point in our attack. Martial and Rashford just aren’t proper centre forwards.

This. It was glorious. He had absolutely no right to even try that and he meant it. Devilishly clever

Michael Owen and Hoddle kept talking about his movements before the match and at half time. Then he comes on and scores two goals with his movements.
I think Greenwood is close to being a striker like him. It's not just scoring but also his movements is what gets him into the positions.
Plus his cross for Bruno was spot on. Most of our players would not have pulled it back or crossed early.
He has got to start in our next PL game.

We need to rotate him wisely. He was injured a lot in his last years at PSG so we can’t start him every single game. Not saying he shouldn’t ever start of course.

No. 9 are rare predator breed. There are certain movements that come naturally to them and they sharpen it with experience. I doubt you can really train someone into no. 9. Either you have it in your dna or you don't.

Rooney did. It's certainly possible, it definitely depends on the player though, their drive, their ability to learn.
Rooney became a better goalscorer and his game become more reserved as he got older. That happens to pretty much every striker. He never developed Cavani's instincts in the box and from a very early age he was a different player in the box than Martial. He didn't become like van Nistelrooy while playing alongside him. He just got better at what he was naturally good at.

How the hell did he anticipate that ball for the equalizer? Took a deflection right? Insane striker instincts.. Very rare.

Buy a well proven striker like Ibra that isn’t currently damaged like Falcao was and you get results, who knew?

I wasn’t a fan beforehand but I am now.

He’ll do that again, win us games.

Thought the same, impressive how he turned this half chance into something dangerous. His heading techniques are something else.
Also his instincts are impressive, I have to admit I was pissed off a bit by this signing but this man is real quality. Credit where it’s due.

Wow. Imagine we had bought him after 2013. 1-2 years with RVP and then he had been our hero for 10 years.
I like such dreams. He could have become something special

Sterling developed the clever movement and scored A LOT because of it.

I know Cavani is 38 or something but this shows why we need players in our Prime.

Prime players and experienced players are extremely similar but experienced players post fitness is just a gamble that doesnt always work out and sometimes it does. That's why we won a CL with the returning Paul Scholes, an ageing Giggs etc.

We literally have Bruno, Maguire, Pogba, De Gea, Fred and Cavani as top prime or experienced players and many supporters would be hesitant putting all of them in that list because I've been lenient.

Compare that to Liverpool, every single player is in their prime except TAA. Every single one. Every single one for City except Ferren torres and Foden.

We overdo it with youngsters and it needs to stop. Just bought 2 RW's just last summer.

Needs to start as often as his body allows him to. If it means moving martial left so be it. Greenwood has no business starting over him.

His second goal is exactly how I remember him from PSG. Meeting the crossed ball with his head at the first post. World class.

That ladies and gentlemen is what a real CF looks like. The last CFs at the club were RVP and Ibra. He can score with both feet, with his head, great off the ball movement, vision, passing, finishing, pure striker instincts which you either have or you dont.

Cavani can play on the wings too, watched him a bit at Napoli and later at PSG where he played alot on the wings to accomodate Ibra as their main CF.
If we had Martial up there that game was lost.
