Is a league challenge really out of reach?

It is so much in reach that I expect a big winter signing to help with it. No excuses not to compete considering the state of Liverpool and City.

We are too inconsistent for a sustained title charge unless the other teams around us face a monumental collapse.

Let us put things in perspective and remember that it wasn’t too long ago when we had a toothless performance against Arsenal and a torrid loss against Istanbul Basaksehir. Our defence is still suspect at times especially during set pieces. Also what if Bruno ever got injured?

I’m all for positivity but a title charge needs to be validated by a succession of convincing performances. We haven’t got that.....yet.

United have won the league with far worse. Don’t see why not. We have the talent, skill and Bruno. But it’s down to Ole and the team. If they believe they can do. Fecking go for it. If there’s ever an opportunity. It’s this crazy ass season.

Improbable, consistency is our enemy.

Overplaying in the final third has become an issue lately and I just wish Ole would become more ruthless with the under performers in the squad.
Like who?
He's already rucked Pogba off even before his injury.
Took Greenwood off at half time.

Would give Tuanzebe or Bailly a game if they could stay fit longer than 2 games in a row.

As of now, Liverpool or City are likeliest to win again.

Chelsea and Spurs are not real contenders either, and have about the same chances as we do.

Don't read it.
I only read the title tbh. Come on, anytime after a couple win: the title, best squad etc . Anytime after a loss: relegation battle, sack Ole and appoint [insert a name] etc.

Have we had enough of this? Why just don't enjoy the win and wait at least till when we're in the top 3, top or bottom to start those thread?

It probably is.

But we’re a game in hand against Burnley away from being the two points off the top. This is with no pre-season, a widely derided transfer window, Martial in shit form, Greenwood off the boil, Pogba on his holidays, a fair few dreadful performances and (wait for it) a PE teacher in charge.

Liverpool have some big injuries, City are hit-and-miss, and we’re really no worse than Chelsea or Spurs, in spite of what some would have you believe.

Of course, we’ve still got our problems. But who hasn’t?

We have a slim chance if all our main players being health and in-form.

We have been super inconsistent but yet we are “only” 5 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.

Its the constant disappointment in the last 7 years that stopping everyone from dreaming isn't it?
at this point I'd be happy with top 4 again, the fact that that's in reach is bonus enough

Certainly not! We're still in there with a shout. No team is dominating at present. City, despite their not so convincing start, will be the team to beat imo.

Just need Pogba, Martial and Greenwood to find their form now, others have turned it up recently.
it would need this to happen.2 of which played fantastic last season.

we went on a massive run last season. Despite having a really bad start, we have a point more than city.

This season is going to be pretty crazy, so it could be any of Liverpool, City, United, Chelsea or Spurs who go on and win it. Liverpool still clearly favourites. If a team puts together - decent 20 game run, then anything is possible.

It’s possible. We have a squad capable. I also think it’s doubtful though as we’re still a work in progress and inconsistent. But if it suddenly clicks then why not?

Next season however, we should be expecting to challenge. With the squad we’ve assembled there should be no reason not to expect a good run at it.

In the meantime, let’s see what happens.

I think both City and Liverpool look weaker than last year. Injuries will surely effect Liverpool going forward.

City are still open to be beaten by smart teams. They look great when it all clicks, but if you take out De bruyne the rest of that side is average although they got Pep.

I'd like us to get that game out of hand done (and won) as soon as possible, it's weird languishing where we are rather than putting pressure on the top team due to having started a week late (and also not knowing if we'll get those extra three points or feck it up)

We're two points off top if we win our game in hand right?

So it's very much for us to win but it would take us doing something we've not been able to do under Ole. Win consistently.

This team has to make a charge for the title. No excuses. Sacrifice the cups if you have to. Make a proper hard attempt at the league. This is our best shot.

1. We are underrated as feck. The pressure is low.
2. We have a good midfield and a decent defence. Essential
3. We have an ace attack.
4. We have solid bench strength

This is our best shot in a long long time. We can beat the big sides and we are slowly getting the hang of tearing down the smaller team's defences. If we don't buckle down now, I'll lose a lot of respect for the United staff and players.

Get a top quality DM and we can give a challenge if we don't get Bruno and Fred injured.

Yes, its definitely out of reach IMO. We are too inconsistent, we can probably beat PSG and lose to West Ham next weekend and I wouldn't be surprised.

Sell Pogba ASAP and reinvest proceeds well into the squad, plus luck with injuries, we might be in with a shout at the end of the season.

I think we could do it, but do not trust Oles management. He has so many poor runs that ruins all positive momentum.

If we’re within 6/7 off the top in Jan and we buy a centre-half we’ve got a chance. Unfortunately I feel our inconsistent form may continue and some other teams will pull away a bit. Definitely more open this year.

Of course we could mount a title challenge this year. We’ve got a decent squad on paper, if we can get it to click on a consistent basis we‘ll be up there. I don’t think it’s likely though at the moment.

There's no way we get maximum points over the next 4-5 games which we would need to challenge. We concede too much

I think that's the most frustrating thing about watching us play poorly, knowing that if we were even just a little better we'd be one of the favourites for the league.

I just don't watch us and think we look like a top side unfortunately. Lack of fluidity and understanding between the players in attack for the most part and players that just aren't clinical enough with the chances we have.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
I mean mathematically no.. it is reachable.

Realistically it still is out of reach.
Our system is just not sustainable. We do have the squad and key players in terms of just talents and depth.

Beat Wham away and City at home and THEN maybe we have some sort of momentum building.

We can’t get the consistency, I just don’t think we’ve got what it takes to put a run together.

Its a shame because it’s wide open as well. Spurs, Chelsea and ourselves might not get a better chance to take it from City or Liverpool.

Add a Rw ..
Cavani moving to the right and delivering that cross makes me believe a Rw , cb and DM will make us challenging

Well it's obviously a unique season and how it plays out remains to be seen. So many factors that wouldn't come into play in any other normal season. I would write us off as far as a title challenge goes for many reasons, the main one being we are so heavily reliant on Bruno it's not even funny. Our back up players will no doubt be called upon throughout the season and they are nowhere near the quality required to keep us playing consistently well enough to win the title.

It’s not out of reach, but we need to go on a big run. Which we’ve shown were capable of, but it’ll be difficult. If we keep everyone fit and then hit peak around the business end of the season, who knows. But we need to stay in contention until then.

So far it's a good epl season it's round 10 and currently there is only 7 points between 14th and 1st. I think we are just good enough for top 4 unfortunately.
