It seems utterly insane they could ban Cavani for posting something that some English speakers have apparently misinterpreted as being racist. It’s blatantly obvious there was nothing racist about his post.
They wont.. its just a few people being offended because... I don't know.. it sounds offensive I guess.

I'm a Black man and it saddens me that real racism has become conflated with political correctness and the social media era. Racism is that which maligns or is intended to malign another because of skin colour. Racism is not endless political correctness that can't even take language into account. There's racism in South America, and the Spanish speaking world. They, and not us, should be the arbiters of whether there was anything offensive here. As I understand it, Cavani was alerted as to how the term may be interprered in English! Just think about that...he can't even speak his language freely because of political correctness.
Agreed that it must be a culture shock to him. Although I always think that anyone that moves to another Country, should learn and adapt to its culture. As long as the culture is appropriate.

Doubt he will get a ban personally and if it is maybe a 1-match one, despite what token Laurence Fox here is decrying about the end of society,

Hahahah. The fact that this is even a discussion is hilarious. Just shows you how unbelievably stupid the culture is today.

Welcome to the english speaking world Edison.
The way it works here, we tell you how your language is supposed to sound and we also come up with a term like Latinx to tell you how you should identify. Oh its amazing.

Oh but thats enough for today. Tomorrow we"ll talk about pronouns in your twitter bio.

Yes english speaking world is an amazing place in 2020.

It’s mentioned in all the new Cavani articles.
Below is also from at the time. Says online posts like Bernardo and Alli are now minimum 3 matches not 1.

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.dai...an-12-matches-acts-discrimination-season.html
Pretty fecking absurd that they've changed the minimum penalty while claiming this: " The FA’s reasoning in raising the punishment threshold is that it allows them to take each case on its own merits "

Would also be typical that a Manchester United player is banned for 3 matches for doing something less serious than another player got a one match ban for

We didn’t have the twitter hounds back then though. He’ll get banned for this almost certainly. If you look hard enough you can find offence everywhere. People are sad bastards.
Didn't Rio say his choc ice statement from a tweet himself?

Context was completely different, but expect him to be banned because a) there is precedent for this with the Suarez incident; and b) he’s a Manchester United player, and examples must be made.

Not saying he should get a ban but certainly think he should at least go on a racial awareness course. Cavani might quite like it in England and end up raising his kids here (if he has any)and he needs to realise why, in this country, that term can be considered highly offensive. Communication is important and this shouldn’t just be swept under the carpet because he is a United player.

If he gets banned it'll be because of the latter. The precedent set by paragraphs 353 to 355 of FA vs Evra make clear this is not offensive in a friendly context, which was clearly Cavani's use.

So erm... has anyone actually said they were offended by it? And all the FA has said is that they're going to look into it?

The only "outrage" I see is from those desperate to fill their weekly quota of saying how political correctness has gone mad and all the usual similar bollocks.

I just find this so hilarious. I dont blame Edison for anything. He was using his own language, it was a positive message and hell, dos anyone in the english speaking world know whats acceptable anymorr anyway. Everyone is walking on egg shells and everyone can get in trouble for something.
Tells you more about the culture than Cavani.
He clearly didnt mean anything bad, it was a common term of endearment in South America so if he even gets in trouble for this, its the most ridiculous thing ever.

Being offended by it isn't an requirement.

This is absolutely absurd despite a particular pantwetter on this thread trying to make something of it. Absolutely ludicrous.

Its just such a nasty culture shock though. Feel kinda bad for him. Being accused of being racially insensitive.
I mean we are kinda used to it here and its far worse in the US but to people that arent used to it, I almost dont wanna bring them into this mess.

I was accused of racism here once for preferring Fred over Pogba. Not even kidding.

But he’s put it on his social media , which is a crucial part in all of this . In a public domain , plying his trade and earning his money in an English speaking country , he has used a term that could to many be seen as offensive to many English people.

Why is it offensive to English people though? Have English people ever heard of the term before? Do they speak Spanish? I mean seriously. Its not a term thats in the english lexicon or culture so why would english people be offended by it?

The fact that you even ask the question means we’re not gonna agree, which means it’s a waste of time discussing it. Especially at 12.10 at night.

If you fancy getting offended some more have a look on Reddit I’m sure you’ll have a field day.
You have repeatedly said I'm offended, when nothing I've posted implies that. This is a tactic i see deployed a lot online when someone has a different view.

It's not an English word mate, so if they take offence it's silly.

I'm just saying, for all the people using this as another excuse to say how easily offended everyone is these days (and other usual stuff like snowflakes etc), I've not actually seen anyone say they're offended by it.
I think it just comes down to raw power which is why more than likely many suspect Cavani will get suspended despite how stupid it is.
Everyone knows its stupid but people that wanna police speech are drunk on power. There isnt much more to it than that. It stopped being about racism long time ago.

The posters in this thread really demonstrate why this country is an absolute shambles. Grown men who probably have posters of nigel farage and laurence fox on their walls.

I suppose it depends on the outcome of the investigation.

I won't exactly be surprised if he gets banned for three matches...
