He turned out to be a fine player. He's one of the only ones I look back on and think what might have been. .

Can never judge these players solely on YouTube compilations, I would like to have the time to sit and watch a few games to see for myself what all the fuss is about. I guess that's what scouting departments are for.

Caicedo is highly regarded in South American circles.
I doubt so many talking about him means he’s overhyped. I’ll await Tim Vickery’s assesment

I think this is exactly the type of signing we'll make to play the deep-lying playmaker role. It will be some kid with huge potential who not too many know about, similar to the Diallo signing. And won't be a Rice for 80 million like some expect.

Under Fergie we were great at discovering unpolished gems and turning them into superstars - Ole, Vidic, Evra, Cristiano, Sharpe, Irwin (Zaha could have been with correct coaching) etc and I think the board are trying to get back to that.

Very high-energy midfielder and plays for a team that is very impressive for its size. His breakout performance was vs. Uruguay a month prior when Ecuador won 4-2. 18-years old at the time, he totally bossed the midfield in a World Cup qualifier against highly experienced opponents, and became the youngest player ever to score in CONMEBOL WCQ.

I've have wondered abit of why Antonio Valencia had darker skin than typical south Americans. According to wikipedia there are about 10% afro-equadorians today. They were mainly brough over by the spaniards as slaves in the 1400-1500's. Guess having Tony Valencia as a sort of inspiration when both belong to the same oppressed minority. Looked a bit more into the issue and it seems like afro-equadorians still face alot of racism even if they have been in the country for over half a Millenium.

That is not to say the Ecuadorians were lucky. Three wins in four games, and 13 goals scored tells a story. Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro came in at the last minute, but he is proving a good fit. He has always been happiest with counter-attacking sides, and Ecuador are at their best breaking at pace down the flanks. Subtle attacking midfielder Angel Mena has been the surprise hit of the campaign so far, and powerful young winger Gonzalo Plata has been the breakout star, pushed closely by all-round midfielder Moises Caicedo.

These types of signings are giving me hope that the club are finally starting to be more proactive in snapping talents up before they go to some other club in Europe and then their value shoots up later.

Seems very highly rated.

He doesn't look anything like Camavinga to me. Cama is a crazy good ball carrier and striker from midfield.

The highlights are more in the Kante mould.

If you follow the football in South America (I only watch the Brasileirao, Primera Division and Copa Libertadores but not the Liga Pro) then everyone knows this player and therefore i was happy to read that we are apparently interested in him.......i would definitely go for him because he really looks pretty good and you can't make much wrong with his probably transfer fee (Especially in the current times you must find good players for such prices).

If we send a plane to Ecuador then we should sign Gabriel Veron too :smirk:

Whatever happens Pogba will probably be gone next season, unless Deadwood Woodward has a brainfart and offers him £450k a week to stay.

they say his passing accuracy is always above 90% in some of the reports i've read. i'm sure the speed of the game / pressing in England will make it a lot harder but he definitely seems like the right sort of player we should be looking at.

A mobile CDM who can tackle, pass, run but also chip in with goals.

Diallo has been known to all big clubs for years. Vidic was one step away from going to Liverpool. Cristiano was actually half-signed by Liverpool, while Juventus, Barcelona and Arsenal were ready to bid. I guess when you say "not too many know about" you mean fans, not clubs.

Similarly with this kid, Man City's name is in the tweet...

He looks like the new Pogba with better defensively. I think he can be the real deal because he just turned 19 last month and already in Ecuador national team and had 4 caps 1 goal. I know it’s Ecuador but not many 18 out there got their first international call. Just turned 19 & set the regular spot.
