Wow! The red card is correct since taking away a big goal chance, but Andersen’s foul stops outside the penalty box, so it’s really just a free kick. Shocking

The luck Steve Bruce gets sometimes is insane...Newcastle been thoroughly outplayed.

VAR is so weird, it was getting the ref to check for a red. But not if he felt it was on the edge of the box. I'm sure if the ref was shown the more zoomed in angle that seems to show the defender let go before the edge of the box he may well only give the freekick. But a red would most likely still being given.

But Wilson proceeds into the box, once Anderson has let go and then goes down no pull what so ever...very lucky pen.

I thought they were checking VAR to potentially overrule the penalty and they go on and add a red card to that instead

Did they change the "double jeopardy" rule? I thought they couldn't give a straight red for denying a goal scoring opportunity anymore if there's a penalty

Only if there's an attempt to play the ball. Pushing/pulling the man isn't attempting to play the ball.

Only if you have made an attempt to get the ball, he pulled him back, so it was a red as they decided it was a penalty.
